The Steelers And Their Draft Pick

38 posts in this topic

The Steelers drafted well for the future. However, I don't see any immediate impact players which is what you expect from a veteran team that went to the Super Bowl. Heyward will rotate in and out some his rookie season but certainly not start and Gilbert might play if Adams doesn't come back. Other than that I see special teamers at best.

If I was a Steeler fan I would be concerned about my secondary. The Steelers keep trying to find CB's in the mid rounds that don't pan out. Ike Taylor is the best CB they have and he will be alwfully expensive to resign.

Not true. We have to deal with where we draft each year and the philosophy is to take the best available player.

Considering the age and injuries the suffered along the offensive and defensive lines last year it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if both Gilbert and Heyward saw extensive playing time.

If Jimmy Smith didnt fall to us, I'm almost certain we would have drafted Heyward.

I don't think so it would have been Wilkerson who has the higher upside and he's not a steeler fan.

Ya, Id be hard pressed to argue with the philosophy either. Steelers rely on their front 7 and pass rush to make plays for them, in their eyes corners should only be covering for 2 or 3 seconds. Thats why they continue to draft guys like Worilds, Carter, Heyward, Hood.

Hey just looking around their late round picks. You guys should keep an eye on 7th round pick RB Baron Batch from Texas Tech. If the metrics and stats are true, then I think the Steelers have found their "Ray Rice," which is a perfect compliment for the ground and pound pair Rashard Mendenhall and Jonathan Dwyer. Baron Batch could be a very good steal and could see action quicker than everyone expects as a 3rd down back.

He could to be a good change of pace back.

He's a very humble guy

Yep. He seems to have some true potential. But Issac Redman will probably get more reps this season as well.
One awesome testimony from such a young guy. Glad to have him. His attitude will rub off and go a long way with his teammates... he and Ray Lewis would get along very well.
