Josh Wilson is a perfect cover guy for Wallace.

The Steelers don't really have any receivers who can test Jimmy Smith. All that means is Jimmy just shut down one of their options and Ed Reed gets to free lance some more against Big Ben. I bet Ed Reed is really pumped about this pick. Josh Wilson and Chris Carr played great, but they did so within the system. Jimmy is the kind of guy we can leave on an island against Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson jr, Roddy White, Reggie Wayne, Julio Jones, etc and not worry about.

I bet we can see a lot more 8 man boxes and a lot more blitzing from the safeties because of this Jimmy Smith pick. To be honest I want to address the offense (since The Prophet Muhammad Wilkerson is off the board) with our second rounder because I don't see Paea reaching us. He'll probably fall to Denver who will gladly scoop him up.

If we get Torrey Smith and Jimmy Smith we'll have to give them a crime fighting nickname or something. The Smith brothers. One has "character issues" and the other is a "saint." Should get a tv show.

Exactly how I'm seeing it! With the CB's we have now, we actually did a great job on Big Ben and Co. for the most part. Ward didn't kill us like he did in the past, held Miller in check and Wallace didn't really kill us, especially compared to how he did the rest of the league. So we can afford to keep Smith on one side of the field when we face them and gameplan the D from there which would actually be alot easier to gameplan than to have your #1Cb chasing the #1Wr each play not knowing where he would line up from play to play.

A great value pick and BPA. I'm willing to give this young man an opportunity to put his past behind him. Obviously, the FO feels that way as well. Welcome to your new home Jimmy! I look forward to seeing you don the purple!

I love the video of Jimmy Smith at his house. I was afraid we traded out of the first round again. Thanks a lot, Bears. I wish we played them so Jimmy could embarrass Cutler along with the rest of our secondary. I wanted Wilkerson and had my fingers crossed for Cam Jordan, but I think Jimmy Smith will pan out. I'm just glad we got a first round pick. Wear your helmet to bed and turn on the lights late at night.

Let the record also show that Nnamdi Asomugha, maybe the best corner in the NFL, wasn't taken until the 31st pick of the 2002 draft, behind Terrance Newman and two guys named Andre Woolfolk and Sammy Davis. Jimmy Smith was taken 27th overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2011 draft, after Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara.

I think Smith will prove pretty quickly that he will be our #1 CB. I hope we re-sign Wilson as well. Maybe Fox can restructure his deal, if not it wouldnt surprise me if we let him go in favor of Wilson. Smith and Wilson are better corners than Foxworth.
I agree with you on that one, resign Carr for our nickel package and webb as our 4th would be great IMO.

Early on Smith competing with Web, Carr, Wilson for nickle duty, maybe even #2. However in 08 Flacco was supposed to be the #3 QB no matter what, so if he takes that field and impresses early, and he impresses in preseason he could definitely see the field a lot.
chuck pagano clearly stated in the war room video, Smith would be matched up on the other teams top reciever, and to be ready to be their number #1 corner, from day one.
<br />Naw, listen to the vid on the home page as Mili already posted on this thread, Pagano literally told him to get ready b/c he will be matched on the #1 Wr every week. Now, common sense tells me hes going to have to earn it but I'm assuming Pagano is speaking in terms of Smith performing like they know he can which they feel he will to earn the #1Cb job.<br />
holy crap didnt even see that. I love it, throw him right into the mix

I wonder if the Squeelers would have gotten Smith if we traded out?
No, because we weren't trading out of the first, we were only trading back within the first with the Bears (they wanted to trade up for Carimi, thinking the Chiefs were taking him).

I neither love nor hate the pick. Frankly, I don't think cornerback was as huge a need as others seem to have thought it was. Wilson made everyone take notice last year, Foxworth will be back, Webb is making strides, and Carr continues to only improve. That may not be a top 5 cornerback situation, but it's formidable. The bigger issue was the complete lack of a pass rush, which we all knows goes hand in hand with the cornerback situation. With Wilkerson on the board, the smarter move would have been to pick him up.

I said it in another thread, but pass rush in the first and receiver in the second would have been the ideal order. With us taking Smith, it means either the pass rush or receiver will be pushed further down the draft. I cannot stomach another year of waiting to (attempt to) draft a future receiver for the team, yet the pass rush cannot be ignored either.

I posted this in the draft thread but just wanted to do it again so people know.

Bears GM takes blame for failed trade.

Also, according to this article, the team spent 9 months looking at Jimmy. Link

I can't wait to see the guy on the field.

I love it to, im extremely excited about this pick. This kid is rare, you dont see a 6'2 corner move like him very often. Hes big, physical, tracks the ball amazing, this allows pagano to do soooooooooo much more. Even as players started to fall, I was still looking forward to getting Jimmy. The pass rush is ALREADY better, just by adding Smith, hopefully we can get Sergio back (knock on wood). We have needed a corner like this for awhile.... regardless of the character issues... they are things alot of us did when we were 18 and 19, and I know me personally, I changed, i grew up... and that was without the supporting cast of an Ed Reed, Suggs, Ray Lewis around. He will be fine.

We did our due diligence on the guy so I trust we made the right decision. Quesiton is why were the Bears on the phone to begin with? Were they trying to leap frog Chiefs for Baldwin?

Also, I hate the Saints for taking Cam Jordan lol

The Bears wanted Carimi to begin with, they thought Kansas City was going to take him instead of Baldwin. So they were attempting to jump in front of the Chiefs to take Carimi. However, luckily for them, the Chiefs wanted Baldwin, so everyone got the original player they wanted... the Ravens just lost out on an additional fourth round pick.

I was kind of hoping Jordan was somehow going to slide to us too =\

Im so pumped about this pick. A lot of experts had him on par with patrick peterson skill wise. We finally have a guy who can cover a big reciever. 6'2 , 215? Thats incredible size for a cd, and he can hit??? Hes a perfect fit. We will need him against aj green.

Now i wonder if they will trade up to try and grab bowers, or a reciever

I think this could turn out to be a great pick for us... A big, physical corner is something that we have been missing since C-Mac left.

My only concern now is Josh Wilson. If I were him, potentially a UFA in the next few weeks or less, I wouldn't resign with us now. Its obvious from what you guys are reporting Pagano said that Smith will pretty much be starting day 1 and we're already paying Foxworth starter money for 2 more years. Coming off a season where you proved you can be a top 10 corner in this league, I'd look for a starting job and a big payday elsewhere, and I'm sure Wilson will get it...

Wilson played well for the most part last season but I don't view him as a top 10 CB. Regardless, I don't see Wilson returning either. I'll be happy if Carr does though. Then again, the team may feel comfortable with Cary Williams as the dime and let Carr go.

I'm not sure about Wilson just yet. Carr may be on the outs, it definitely wouldn't surprise me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want him gone, he's improved quite a bit, but the team might see him expendable. With Wilson though, I just don't know. You can never have too many solid cornerbacks, but now we have Smith, Foxworth, Wilson, and Webb. I'd personally love to retain all of them, if possible, but it'll be tough.

in reference to Smith....Pagano said;

"We got your back and you have our back ok? Just plan on every week matching up with their best! That's why we got you ok? We've have elite shutdown corners here in the past and we just got the next great one! The next great Ravens cover corner. You're gonna match up with everybody's finest alright? So get ready to go to work alright?

the Ravens coaching staff is EXCITED about Jimmy Smith. They all are saying that we have a "Shutdown Corner!"

for all of you JS haters.....leave the kid alone! most of you cats in here are already crucifying the kid and he just became a Raven. smh!

Go get'em Jimmy!

~Mili
Not ready to crucify the kid but I don't think that CB was our most glaring need and we took a chance on Kindle and his character issues last draft. That didn't go so well for us did it?

We'll see how the rest of the draft pans out but there had better be a solid burner WR left for us or I give this pick a definite thumbs down.

Also, heard that the Ravens have petitioned for a 4th round pick from the Bears for the trade snafu. An extra pick would be nice.

Carr made big strides from 09 to 10. I say they keep him and probably lose Wilson, though I'd be sad to see him go.

Steelers have had their recent problems with guys with issues. They are character guy drafters. They wouldn't have drafted him.
