Steve Smith To Bmore?

I really hope this hasn't been brought up already, but with Steve Smith wanting out of Carolina, do you think there is the possibility we will take a shot at him?

It has been discussed before and there's not exactly a huge desire from the fans here to have another aging veteran receiver on the team.

I hope not. He's too fragile.

I remember seeing a comment on another forum that said that if Baltimore signed him, they'd have the meanest group of wide receivers in the league - literally.

Hypothetically speaking, even if that were true, we'd only have "the meanest group of wide receivers in the league" for two years. Then we'd be back to wallowing in a pool of nothingness at receiver.

1. Sign him.

2. Throw him, Mason, Boldin, Houshmandzadeh, Stallworth, and Heap into a time machine set back to 2008.

3. Dominate the league with our amazing passing offense.

Problem?

Can't at all blame you. That's probably among the oldest memes of all time.

He comes from a losing enviornment. Dont want him, dont need him.

You can't really blame him for the "losing environment". It's not his fault Delhomme forget which team he was playing for on a weekly basis. And remember, Carolina used to be a force in the NFC, again before Delhomme's downward spiral. If it weren't for his age, like if he had only been in the league for 4 or 5 years, then I might entertain the thought of bringing him over.

Can't imagine Steve Smith has the same wheels he's had in the past, don't need another 30+ wide reciever. Like someone said if this was 2008 we'd have the best recieving core in the league.... but its 2011 what a big difference 3 years can make

Wouldn't exactly call the Panthers a losing environment back in the day, and I wouldn't really question his attitude, but he's too old to be the long term solution that we need. Plus he's lost a lot since his prime.

Apparently, Smith has stated that he wants to play for either San Diego or Baltimore. Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith and Jon Baldwin sounds like beastly bunch of WR's

We signed Stallworth and Houshmanzadeh last year....anything is possible especially if the price is right. TO is very old but if we could get him for the league minimum and our coaches ACTUALLY wanted him, he would be ours.

Smith is 31. Smith, Boldin and Mason would be pretty old but smith would be a better option than Stallworth and Housh ever were.

Youth at WR is what we need more than Steve Smith.
The irony is that at 31 he would be one of the youngest receivers on our team.

That's fine with me because with Ray and Ed likely being around for 2 more years, I have a win now mentality since they are our 2 best players.

Smith is still older than Boldin though. Boldin is 30 and will be 31 on Halloween

Steve Smith from the Panthers?? Is this guy any good?? Good god people here we go AGAIN, instead of Brandon Marshall now it's Steve Smith. Why not bring up Revis again as well, lets get his name flowing once again. :34853_brickwall:

I don't want Smith either, but I believe the Ravens have a guy who's pretty decent even though he came from the Arizona Cardinals. They aren't exactly the winningest team in the league... :borg_assimilation_faces:

I think people need to realize who the Panthers have had at QB the last few seasons, as a possibility to why his stats have been declining. It's not like Clausen is a top elite QB in the NFL.

I think Rotoworld hit it right on the head with this comment:

"If Smith does end up playing with a top-tier QB, he's a good bet to re-join the ranks of the fantasy elite. Any time he's had even an adequate passer, Smith has been one of the most unstoppable receivers in the game."

Give him Flacco, and I am more than positive ... things would happen.

One thing about Smith is, he certainly knows how to stretch the field. Something the Ravens do not have.

no doubt that Steve Smith was a serious deep threat back in the day. but now, the Ravens need younger speedsters!

I'd much rather make a nice contract offer to Sidney Rice. And if they could do that AND draft Torrey Smith, they'd have the dread-head twins on the outside for Flacco to use!
