Preseason 2: Minnesota Vikings At Baltimore Ravens

Never mind. Time expires as the ball is thrown deep in the corner of the endzone.

But, I'm intrigued now. Minus the two spikes, Flacco technically went 10 of 14 for 74 yards and a pick (not sure if that pick still counts, though).

I'm wondering if he'll get the start next week, to balance out the QB competition.

Smith

Flacco

Boller

That's what it should look like going into week 3. I hope Harbaugh gives Flacco some playing time with the 1st or 2nd string next week because our 3rd stringers are just pathetic.

Agreed, on all counts.

After tonight's improved performance, I think Flacco could stand to do much better with the 1st & 2nd stringers than with these rookies & free agents.

I mean, if this is a true QB competition, it'd only be fair to give Flacco the starting nod next week and continue this rotation. And then, for the fourth game, start whoever performed the best in the first three games, sort of as a litmus test to see if the projected starter is ready for Week 1.

so with the terrible stats he produced with the starting O troy surpassed kyle from last week because kyle sucked this

week with the 2nd stringers that troy sucked with last week?

hmm im not so sure about this.....

and flacco jumped up because he was able to throw a bunch of dump passes to a prevent defense in a 2 minute drill?

yea not sure about that either.

think we are still screwed at this position this year

Man...I hope Flacco gets the start. For real.. Even though we have the risk to ruin him by tossing him in there. I don't think we can win much games with Boller or Smith, especially this season with the tough schedule

Sooooo...help me out I didn't get too watch the game. How did each QB do?

If you were to just read the stats, each QB technically played efficiently. HOWEVER, that's misleading, as those high-percentage completions didn't move the ball down the field very well. Lots of dump-off passes, which would normally be OK for this offense if the defense had been at the top of its game. But, since that wasn't the case, this was simply unacceptable for all three QBs (Flacco is only given a slight pass because he's a rookie working on his decision-making skills).

Smith didn't take advantage of his start and played unevenly. He looked decent on the first couple of drives, but produced more on the ground than he did in the air -- NOT good for someone looking to be the starting QB. Remember, athleticism is nice, but Michael Vick-like scrambling skills are overrated; teams in the NFL can scheme for a scrambler nowadays.

Boller regressed from last week, barely moving the ball this time around. He technically cut down on the turnovers, but it's still disappointing to see him do nothing with the opportunities given.

Flacco improved greatly from last week (which wasn't hard to do), but it's still unfortunate that he barely had any real playing time, and was forced to work with a bunch of players that likely won't make the final 53-man roster.

We'll have to wait until next week to see if anyone will stand out...

To put Flacco's performance in perspective, a lot of those dump passes were out of necessity given how poorly the offensive line was protecting him.

I'd much rather have him dump off than take a sack or throw an INT. But, he's learning -- at least his decision-making skills are much-improved from last week.

ugh he we go already

flacco ran against a defense of players who may not be in the league in a few days in a 2 minute offense against a prevent defense this is not a great feat

Football's a TEAM sport.

If you were being protected by guys who are likely to be out of a job next week, and throwing to guys who may never see significant playing time this season, it's not like there's a guarantee that you'll be looking like Peyton Manning, even if the defense has the same "talent" level.

all im saying is its a whole lot easier to complete a bunch of passes underneath a defense whos one job is to keep you from throwing a long pass

yes flacco did better than last week which again wasnt hard to do but i just cant stand when people jump on the bandwagon over a performance like that

hey guys, some observations

1) It's clear that we don't have a clear picture who the starting QB will be.

2) I'm impressed with the improvement with Flacco from a week ago.

3) Ray Rice! :D

4) Our pass defense is still shoddy.

I'm glad we lost (maybe glad is the wrong word). We can learn so much more from a loss than from a win.

Troy didn't "surpass" Kyle. It's just that Kyle looked so bad that he can't be the starter anymore. Troy did not look terrible. Kyle did, in my opinion.

at least flacco was decent running the shotgun in the nfl...

the o-line is the biggest group of downers, in my misfortune, had to watch...(with the exception of the starting guards and center)

troy couldnt pass the ball tonight to save his life (btw allen basically hit him when he was 2 yd's out of bounds)

at least my boy ray rice put up a show

god help us

again maybe im missing what everyone else is seeing but how would we ever win a game with how troy played today?

without his running stats he was terrible.

im not defending kyle or anyone else on the team i dont think we have the answer on the team at this point and its a shame because our veterans

are going to miss out because of it yet again

So? Boller looked terrible and he played Minny's 2nd and 3rd string defense. Smith didn't look that bad and he played a top 5 defense in the NFL.

I think Boller showed us today he's not the answer. But Troy has a long way to go. So either way, we're in trouble.

Someone needs to start lol

we all know that a scrambling QB that has trouble passing can't last a whole season in the nfl

BOTH kyle and troy need to step it up
