PSN Update

190 posts in this topic

I thought I saw a link somebody posted in a site I go to occasionally that said that someone sued Sony for the hack. I don't know the details though, since I never bothered checking the article. I might start looking around for it.

On a side note, I couldn't access their IRC today for some reason. Weird.

Hopefully this isnt too off topic, but because the PSN has been down 2 weeks I recently started playing the Red Dead Redemption story mode again starting over, and I still cant get over how well this game was made particularly the soundtrack. I havent played a game with a remotely close soundtrack that just marinates the storyline and gameplay the way RDRs soundtrack does.

Example

That's why it won game of the year. Has tons of additional features that will keep you playing long after you beat story mode.

I haven't even touched RDR. Was playing too many games around that time but I've watched my friends play it. Looks sweet.

Damn what are you guys doing! :P Its easily without question in my top 5 games of all time, the only way they would have made it better is if they somehow made the storyline last longer. My only gripe with the game at all is how much smaller the "Great Plains/Tall Trees" area is compared to New Austin and Mexico...they could have made that area just as interesting filled with cattle rustlers/cattle drives/ some plains native americans.

I also haven't finished RDR, mainly because I have a problem with finishing games. It's mostly a psychological thing, where I'm afraid of games collecting dust after I finish so I'd rather put them in my backlog than have them just sitting there. Ironically, they end up sitting there anyway because they've been in my backlog for so long.

That aside, RDR is an amazing game. One of the best I've ever played, bar none. The only person I know that hates the game, hates it because it had a slow start.

Or maybe you're just not good enough to finish them. :D j/k

I agree with Blt, one of the top 5 games of all time.
I believe the only people that won't like this game are the ones that don't like the "open ended" games, like the GTA series. RDR did have a pretty slow beginning, but was definitely worth playing through it.

Any more word on when it might be back?

FULL restoration may take up to May 31st but online gaming could be on this week at the earliest.

I feel real bad for all you guys who only have PS3. If I didn't have my Xbox to hold me over then I would be ticked off to say the least. As it is, there's still the matter of my credit card info possibly being used in the future so I guess I can still sort of feel the pain...

Actually, I feel a little bad for the people that own both PS3 and 360 seeing that most games come out on both systems so one of them is receiving much love than the other which to me is bad investment. Can't worship two Gods, got to choose one or the other.

Or we could like games that only come out for one system an not both. Thats my reasons plus my son plays one system while i play on the other.

In other news, "a splinter group of a splinter group of Anonymous" apparently hacked the Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Edios' Montreal websites. It seems 350 resumes and 25,000 e-mail addresses were stolen, but no billing information.

Man, I wish I was an anonymous, face-less hacker so I could make the gaming industry news and brag to my friends about how cool I am.

Well, apparently PSN is already up for developers, just lacking some functions, such as new account creation. So it seems Sony is on the right track in bringing it back up.

Was just about to post this. The community manager over at Zipper Interactive(SOCOM 4 Developers) said that they are now able to test some things.

The PSN is gradually being restored in regions worldwide, starting right now! (LINK)

Additionally, Sony has provided a continually-updated map for the U.S. that'll show parts of the country that have the service restored. I believe other regional blogs on the PlayStation website will have a similar map. (LINK)

As of right now, there is a mandatory firmware update that'll require all of us to change our passwords. Multiplayer functionality is the only service currently being rolled out, with the PlayStation Store and other features being brought back shortly thereafter.

If it's in White, it isn't up in those states and if it's Blue it means PSN is up and working in those states?

Something like that, yes. From what I'm reading, they only just started restoration a little while ago, so we probably won't be able to play until late tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Oh ok. Yeah because the map I'm looking at there is only like 4 things that are shaded blue while everything else is still White.

Yeah I'm thinking tomorrow most likely, but I wonder if another attack will happen once it goes up again.

As of right now, Sony's announced that service is starting to be restored in the Northeast from Maine to roughly New Jersey. So, all of us in the mid-Atlantic should be next.

Good. I feel like an idiot, I couldn't believe that I thought the Blue things meant that it was up in those areas and didn't realize those were lakes lol.

Wherever the Map is Green is where PSN is back up.
