how mad would yall be if PS didnt give us anything?
I would be mad if they didn't give us extra time on PS Plus because I paid for something that I wasn't able to use. As far as everything else, it'll be pretty wrong to not give something back to your customers after possibly letting their personal information get compromised by the wrong people. They deserve something back as loyal customers.

Some services will be restored throughout this week, as early as today or tomorrow. Everything will be back up within a matter of weeks. They already finished building their new physical data center and everything's being housed there with new firewalls and whatnot. I think they contracted the security consultants they hired, long-term.

Well, just when it gets better for Sony... it then only gets worse. Apparently, nearly 13,000 credit card numbers were stolen from Sony Online Entertainment servers last night. Around 4,000 cards were to Japanese customers and Sony figures a majority of the rest of the cards were expired, unused cards. Sony hasn't said, or doesn't know, if this is related to the PSN attacks.

Bear in mind, SOE servers are separate from PSN servers and are run as two different divisions. SOE houses subscriptions for MMO games like DC Universe Online and Final Fantasy Online. PSN is your standard multiplayer for games like Killzone and Call of Duty.

Still, a huge blow to Sony. These hackers need to stop. This is getting ridiculous and only pissing off more gamers.

With all the new information being mentioned...any chance this could be an inside job. I understand the court case being the source, but stranger things have happened. Just a thought.

All I have to say is I'm glad I don't use credit cards for my PSN Account and I'm glad I just use PSN Gift Cards.

I know, and that's what makes it worse to me. Two different divisions, two seperate servers, all in the same company and apparently "weak" enough to be cracked into by hackers.

Apparently it's back up in Japan & should be back up for everyone else tomorrow.
Sony says some PSN services will return this week, and it appears Japan is already back up and functioning.

According to various sources and reports, there have been plenty of Twitter and Facebook entries that claim the Japanese Network has returned, although gamers in North America and Europe have no such luck just yet. Apparently, U.S. users can expect the PSN to be back up tomorrow, which just so happens to be the normal update day...sadly, without the Store, that won't mean much. We won't be able to access the Store for some time yet, although we should be able to play online with the resuming of services this week; and "this week" may mean "really soon." Also, just as a reminder, you will receive a mandatory firmware update that requires you to change your PSN password. You may also want to change some other data, if you're still leery about the system's stability.

At any rate, we'll keep a close eye on the PSN's status 'round these parts. Feel free to let us know the instant you see service return.
Apparently, the SOE hack was NOT a separate attack; the information was obtained during the same attack on PSN earlier.

That was bad haha, it was basically slow motion.

Do you find some characters really hard to use and somewhat useless lol. Sub Zero has got to be the worst in the game, so slow and has like no combos.

Apparently Sony is saying all 77 million PSN accounts had information stolen. Of that 77 million, only 12 million had credit card information on file, and only 5 million of those accounts were American. However, no inappropriate charges have been reported. It seems the hacker planted a file in one of SOE's servers named "Anonymous" with the phrase "We are Legion" as it's contents.

Man, these hackers are soooo cool.

Most nerds have terrible hand eye coordination. They'd best be careful with the soap in the prison showers.

I bet their mothers wish they'd used birth control so they could have their basements back.

Edit: Writing this makes me realise how much I hate hackers.

So it was Anonymous. How lame is that? Especially with them claiming that they're not aiming to attack PSN or it's customers. Just Sony. Guess nowadays you can't enjoy a console without having to jailbreak it.

You dont know for sure who it is until they are caught. They could have done that to throw off the police an people investigating. Not all hackers are bad just like not Steelers fans are bad LoL.

Very true.

Hackers have done great things for technology. Hacking has a negative connotation because of the actions of rogue hackers who do it for personal gain. There are hackers who experiment with products to find ways to improve them for everyone's benefit. While Anonymous may have allegedly done some good deeds in the past, their collective actions against Sony are far from noble. There are better ways to take down a corporation.

Granted, we don't know for sure if these attacks were orchestrated by the collective mouthpieces within Anonymous or were the work of rogue agents, but suspicions pointed to the group long before the log was found, largely because they had previously made threats that were very public.

Wow all 77 Million of people who have a PSN Account all had some info taken? I wonder if you were safe if you didn't use a credit card. Makes me wonder why they would steal info from innocent people when they are just trying to attack Sony?

Luckily I have come to a sense that I really don't need PSN anymore, I just use it to get the newest roster that is it, so I guess when PSN goes back up I'm deleting my account.

No, not really. They still took account information, not just credit card information. So they'd still get some information from you, regardless of whether you had a card on file or not.

No one's going to see it that way, because Sony shouldn't have had to wait for such an event to be "forced" to make millions upon millions of people's information secure. A company of their size and knowledge should have had the proper precautions and security measures in place from the start.
