I'm hoping he and Lupe work together more on F&L 2.

Four guys I forgot about:

88 Keys
DJ Khalil
DJ Quik
J Dilla

Right. Soundtrakk was barely on Lasers wasn't he? He's always been Lupe's "sound".

I knew I was forgetting someone big. Dilla was truly gifted.

DOOM is underrated as a producer in my opinion.

Beat me to it. Elzhi did a great job on this homage to "Illmatic" and it's a must-listen IMO. Also, the band Will Sessions does a masterful job at re-interpreting the music to all of the songs. In other words, you guys need to d/l this!

Agreed. I considered myself a quiet fan of Elzhi after listening to The Preface but I'm a huge fan of his now after listening to Elmatic.

I already loved "Halftime"; "Genesis", "Memory Lane" and "It Ain't Hard To Tell" were golden.

Edit: I'll also be keeping an eye on what Will Sessions does in the future.

Same here. I've heard of them before, but I never really listened to them. After this though, they're definitely on my radar. "Illmatic" is one of my favorite albums ever and they just did an awesome job at re-creating it.

As for Elzhi, I've been a huge fan of his ever since his guest spot on Little Brother's "The Minstrel Show" (on the song "Hiding Place"). He absolutely killed it on that song and I was hooked. His flow sounds effortless and his lyrics are on point. I can't wait for him to drop another album.

Love this song and instrumental. J. Cole is sick.

Edit: Some profanity.

So I'm not sure if any of you have heard of these guys or not, but they're from the Baltimore area:

They definitely got potential judging from these 2 songs. They're releasing an album/mixtape soon called "United Division" which I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for.

Any Curren$y fans here? I listened to Pilot Talk II a few days and really enjoyed it. His flow is truly unique and his rhymes are occasionally complex.

CurrenSy is decent. I haven't listened to an awful lot of his music, but a little sample is what I've heard, and he's not bad at all.

Anyone heard of "based" rapping? it's a ridiculous uncoordinated style that's catching a lot of hype in the internet world. Think Soljah Boy with down syndrome, sometimes funny, most of the time not.

Yep. I don't understand why some people think it's so great, but to each his own. At least some of the production is decent, but lyrically it's garbage IMO.

Haha! How do you know who Lil' B is, all the way in Maryland? You probably know this, but he's from Berkeley, and used to be in The Pack, the same group who came out with "Vans". I've been following him since he was about 16, before he got all weird with his based music. Although he is the Based Overlord/God, his newest songs are just annoying. He used to make great music with "We Can Go Down" and my personal favorite, "Drip 4 A Stunna" (YouTube it). I had a chance to hang out with him after a concert, one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Since we're on the topic of California, has anyone heard of Young L from The Pack? He's the one that produced "Vans", as well as some other hits. You guys have to check out some of his old stuff, like "Honey With Me", his songs with his brothers, Young Squad, like "She's Movin' It", "So Fresh" and "Money In My Hand". He also has some new stuff out, but he really started a new movement in California, with everyone into punk rock clothing and stuff like that.

I'll check out his material when I can.

I heard about him for the first time watching an Odd Future video earlier in the year. They were jamming to one of his songs in a car.

Agreed.K.R.I.T.'s last two projects have been solid! I watched the Country Remix video earlier on Vevo.

Dunno if anybody is interested in the upcoming "Bad Meets Evil EP" (Eminem & Royce da 5'9") but here is the opening track from it...
