Finaly the 2011/12 season can Begin and the owners get The Brown Paper Bag of Shame!!!!!
Yeah I hope the League realizes that they are losing in Court and just tries to get back to the table and try to get a deal done.

NFL Network's Albert Breer has said that even with the stay being denied Judge Nelson didn't specify when the new League Year would begin. I hope it starts tonight or tomorrow.

DeMaurice Smith has beaten Goodell at his own game. This has proven that DeMaurice is at least but not necessarily more than the second stupidest person alive.

Here's a more clear ruling... guys the 2011 League Year is Under Way here's what Adam Schefter Tweeted:

Judge ordered NFL to start its league year immediately, but said no team is obligated to sign free agents. Trades in question.

Though Schefter said the League would appeal this ruling made by Nelson in the 8th Circuit Court.

Maybe Ravens can trade the refusing pay cutter Willis mcgahee for a 4th rounder?
Nobody will want his salary, even if there is no salary cap like last season.

I'm anxious to see where McNabb will end up and Palmer even. Man this is like Christmas Eve and you see the big present all wrapped up under the tree before you go to bed and you want to open that now and not wait, and I feel Free Agency is that Big Present we all want and it's wrapped up in a bunch of paper where you tear away one piece, another paper is there that you have to tear, and tear until you get to the last one and you finally get it.

So why cant free agency start right away after her decision. Why wait for tonight?
There were some reports earlier saying that agents have begun contacting teams about their free agents. I don't know how far those talks have gone though.

Yeah I guess tomorrow will be a very interesting day since I highly doubt Free Agency will start at mid night.

Cross your Fingers and hope something happens with Free Agency tomorrow.

Well it's after midnight and there ain't no FA...yet. It's coming soon though.
Tomorrow most likely and I can guarantee that if it does happen tomorrow it's going to be chaotic all day, and like I said every Mock Draft will change with every signing that happens... if any.

Update: League will Inform Teams how to Operate on Thursday.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/28/nfl-will-advise-teams-on-how-to-proceed-on-thursday/
We are evaluating the District Court’s decision and will advise our clubs in the morning on how to proceed.
Sounds to me the best they can do is to just put the 2010 Rules in place along with the Final 8 Rule and the chaos of Free Agency on the day of the Draft will begin!!!!

But can't the league prolong the start of FA and the end of the lockout as long as Nelsons decision is being reviewed by higher levels of court?

Update: Schefter has said that it is Highly unlikely Free Agency begins tomorrow or during the draft and it won't occur until next week. He also said like before only picks would be able to be traded, not players. Adam, if the league doesn't allow Free Agency to begin ASAP, if it doesn't allow teams to trade and sign players it is in contempt of court, according to the ruling that the new league year would begin IMMEDIATELY... not Friday, Monday, but now as in we are at the start of the new league year.

Ok NFL tell us how you want the teams to operate, don't be wasting your time trying to be held in contempt of court by not letting players in the building to workout(Dolphins, Cardinals and Redskins have denied players access into the team facilities), just tell teams how to operate and let's get Free Agency going!

Hopefully the 8th Circuit denies the stay as well and the NFL implements 2010 rules for FA so teams can begin trading and signing players!! Come on!!

I know I'm beating a dead horse here but the League right now is in contempt of Court by not starting up the league year and allowing players to sign with teams and teams to trade players. I agree fully with you, all the league has to do is apply the 2010 Rules and that's it, done.

BREAKING NEWS:

The NFL has told teams to open up their facilities on Friday Morning. Coaches will be able to talk to players, give out playbooks, and everything else.

Though Free Agency may not begin until Monday... and GMs are embracing for that to be the case. 2010 Rules also will most likely be in place.

I guess that's good news... but that means no player trades for the draft, so that's not the best news.

No it is good news, and this will impact the Draft. Think about it, does a team needing a QB risk a rookie QB high in the first knowing they could trade for a Veteran QB on Monday, does a team who wants a corner like the Eagles pass on a Corner because they can go after Aso on Monday. Do the Ravens pass on a Corner because they know they can sign Wilson and Carr on Monday, etc. This changes everything.

I am perfectly fine with no player trades before the draft just as long as FA starts very soon and we all get rolling again. It would've been a giant mess, one that may not have been so good.

It's been bugging me lately. I think it's hysterical how all these teams like the 9ers, Titans, Skins, Vikes and Fins are all allegedly scrambling for a QB. Andy Dalton 8 to Titans? Really? Kapernick 15 to Dolphins? Wow...

Teams better hope FA starts before the draft tonight (although it won't at this point) because intsead of throwing some lower prospect onto your roster, which probably would've happened had this labor dispute not turned for the better (and by the off chance may still happen), just wait it out until you have more freedom and leverage to get the one you really want. Even if that means going another season without a good QB.

Take the Vikes for example. Joe Webb is no scrum imo, I thought he did alright late last season (at least against the Eagles). If you can't get someone else before the season starts, go a season with Webb and hope for the best. If it doesn't work out, fine, it's only one year you wasted. But next offseason you'd actually have more freedom and options to get a fresher start.

I think that's the strategy those teams should be taking right now, unless they have plans to trade up and get Gabbert.

And just like that, the lockout is back on.
ESPN is reporting that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has granted a temporary stay of the injunction and reinstated the lockout, meaning players will now be told to hit the road, and doors to team facilities are being locked this afternoon.
:34853_brickwall:

I wish Judge Nelson would have said her ruling wasn't able to be appealed and that they Owners would be held in contempt if they did appeal it and won. Lock up them Judge Nelson!!! I don't understand why the Owners are so afraid of the Lockout being lifted.

WE WANT FREE AGENCY!.... -Clap Clap Clap- WE WANT FREE AGENCY! -CLAP CLAP CLAP- WE WANT FREE AGENCY!

Roger Goodell thought it was rough last night, wait until the fans see that the Lockout is back on, it might get worse tonight.

Now ESPN has retracted the report, so I guess the lockout isn't back on.
NEW YORK -- The lockout is NOT back, despite a number of reports that began circulating around lunch time on Friday (those reporters owe me half a sandwich, by the way).

CBSSports.com spoke with Michael Gans, Clerk of Court for the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and he informed us that there was an erroneous reading of online court documents that caused the report to appear on ESPN. (The document read "Appellees' motion to file an overlength brief in response to appellants' motion for stay is hereby granted." This means that the court said it would hear the players' response.)
