Oh. I thought teams can release any player they want to,even in the lockout. The Jets did it a couple weeks ago.

No the Jets cut those player BEFORE the lockout, similar to the Browns, Bills and the Patriots signing Marcus Stroud, it all happened before the Lockout. With the Lockout it froze all player transaction, signings, trades and releases.

Hopefully there's no stay and judge Nelson rules teams may operate under 2010 rules, which sucks for us, but is better than nothing.

That's what I been thinking all along. I knew we would most likely operate under last year's rule even if a new CBA would be made since it would probably start next season not this season.

I have goosebumps just thinking about all the possible trades and signings that could happen days before the Draft.

Edit: I think the name of the thread should be changed.

According to the mobile ESPN alert I got

"The NFL seeks stay to Judge Nelson's ruling, pending expedited appeal to 8th Circuit Court of Appeals."

Doesn't sound like anything's going to happen any time soon.

Never Mind Just saw this on Roto World:

"The owners filed for the appeal on Monday night, and expect a decision by Tuesday. GMs and coaching staffs have also been instructed to stay away from free agents. NFL teams are still adhering to "lockout rules," since the league hasn't constructed a new set of rules for whatever you want to call the period we're in. We'd still be shocked if any transactions occurred before the draft."

http://rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/203312/no-free-agency-in-nfl-until-injunction-ruling

Well there goes my dreams of a little Free Agency before Thursdays Draft.

I'm not going to get excited until I get a time that free agency will start. Although this whole situation is getting old fast. Wait, it was already old. It's like these people are totally ignorant to the fact of the lost revenue that will happen if a 2011 season is lost.

I know, they are fighting over money and how much each side should get but are completely ignoring the fact no side will make no money if there isn't a Season.

With the Lockout lifted for the time being........ some team should try to sign players lol.

It would amuse me to no end if someone sneaked in and signed Aso before the appeal could go through (if it does).

One thing teams can start doing: meeting at team facilities and working out. The Steelers are already holding their first meeting tomorrow morning.

Ravens bring guys from Arizona and get them in. The defense should start getting to be familiar with Chuck Pagano's style.

No they aren't. What you read was similar to what other teams, it's been players organizing workouts, not the team. Ryan Clark is trying to organize a workout.

oH I THOGUHT THEY COULD
If they could do that they probably also could have had Free Agency but nothing can happen until we know for sure what's going to happen with the appeal.

This is interesting. We have Ryan Clark telling Steelers players to come to the facility to do a work out, now Scott Fujita of the Browns is telling his team mates to show up for a workout, Joe and the offense is in Arizona working out, while Kyle Vanden Bosch is telling his Lion team mates to not report for workouts.... and Coaches are being told not to talk to players. Strange.

Hopefully Judge Nelson denies the stay so the 8th Circuit can also rule, maybe even today... I don't see why we couldn't see FA signings and trades prior to and during the draft.

Please see what I just posted in the OTHER Lockout Lifted thread :)
Yeah I posted something in that thread about merging that one and this one into a big thread to keep all talks there.

Anyway here is some big news......

Players are going to ask the judge to FORCE Owners to start the new league year.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/04/26/players-ask-judge-to-force-owners-to-start-league-year/
The players are essentially trying to force the league to impose working rules or get the league year started without rules.
What I don't get is that the Lockout is Lifted and that essentially means Free Agency should be started and teams have the right to sign players and if the League doesn't allow it they are in violation of the ruling made by Judge Nelson, so why hasn't Aso been signed yet?

Maybe the teams are already testing the waters with him? Who knows. But that's an interesting move from the players' side. The owners better think of something quickly, or they're in deeper 'n' ever.
