[News] Eisenberg: Time to Spend 1st-Rounder on Defense

39 posts in this topic

The defense still shows up every week and mostly shines, but in some respects, it is holding on for dear life to its reputation. It could use some new blood, some fresh, young legs at a key position.

Just noticing, when we draft defense in the first round we always get it right, when we draft offense in mid to late rounds it turns out alright.

I trust the OZ and crew, with what ever they do (hey that rhymes). Seriously, their track record shows they got it covered.

GO RAVENS!

yea i say we go defence for sure in the 1st round if not the first 3 rounds! the only offensive position i think we need is 0-line... and our defence is holding on for dear life look how many leads we gave up last year!

I'm just pumped to sit back and enjoy watching the first round because whoever we get is going to help us out a lot. I would like for us to go defense with the first pick as I miss having a dominating defense. If we stay at 26 we should have our pick of at least three of Wilkerson, Heyward, Smith, or Houston.

Unless Tyron Smith or Julio Jones falls to our pick, it is common sense we will go defense. We don't need any more RB's, QB's, or TE's. There will be no WR's or OL that are worth it. The only player I could see us grabbing on offense (considering the 1st round tackles suck this year outside of Tyron Smith) is Mike Pouncey, a pick I would still be a bit skeptical of.Here is to hoping Cameron Jordan falls.

Would love to see us get Marvin Austin. His character issues are bogus: he accepted trips from boosters. No one can decipher the NCAA rules, let alone 18 year olds. And he is a pass rushing beast. Put him at left DT, Ngata at right, Gregg or Cody to stuff the middle, Suggs at right DE and anyone who can protect the corner at left and we have 3 guys that need double teamed along the front line. This addresses our pass rush and improves our run D.

@coreyadams
Nope we spent it on Boldin. Being that we traded our first to get bak the picks we gave up for Boldin, Kindle wouldnt have come out in first. No Boldin it would have been receiver.

If these guys are available in these rounds take them. Picks in each round depend on what we get in the other rounds:

1st Round - Jimmy Smith, Derek Sherrod, Justin Houston, Cameron Heyward

2nd Round - Ras-I Dowling, Torrey Smith, Leonard Hankerson, Brooks Reed, Christian Ballard

3rd Round - Jason Barksdale, Edmond Gates, Sam Echo, Casey Matthews

4th Round - Terrence Toliver, Jake Kirkpatrick, DeMarcus Van Dyke, DeAndre McDaniel

I'm good with picking another defence player. I actually hope the Ravens look at getting a shut down corner but that's just my opinion

i agree we should focus on the defense in the draft but grab an o-lineman and receiver or 2. we have 9 picks and probably will trade out and get more picks so its possible to address all our needs add depth and create competion in training camp. it stinks we cannot sign ufa's after the draft unless the cba is done.

Would avoid Jimmy smith like the plague. He has had multiple drug related incidents, and that is not something that will suddenly stop in the pros. He may have great talent, but it is of no use when suspended. Even Ray can't stop addictions.

Jimmy Smith hasn't been in any legal trouble since 2007 which was his freshman year and those crimes were underage drinking and smoking weed. He is 21 now so he can no longer get in trouble for drinking and I wouldn't called smoking weed an addiction..

I totally agree with this, Defense is our identity, i believe the Baltimore Ravens should ALWAYS rank in the top 5 total defense every year.. IMHO i think we should rank top 2 or 3 every year with the talent & reputation we already have. But defense is our identity so most of our 1st round picks should be defenders, our defense should always remain elite at all costs, its our identity, we lose that then we become lost. weve proven already we can get to a superbowl and win with just a great defense alone and were just a few players away from another record setting defensive season!

i would love to have a talent such as Jimmy Smith in our secondary.. he is a big physical corner who excells in man to man coverage.. yeah he got into trouble in school for possession and drinking... lots of kids do, and they turn out just fine.. you think guys never did that after a big win in college? jimmy smith just happened to be one of the unlucky ones and got caught and in trouble

Much rather get Wilson signed to a long term deal, and let the Webb/Wilson combo gel into a top CB duo in the league.....With the draft being deep at the DL position, i think it sets us up perfectly to draft a top OT, and i hope it will be Sherrod.....

Draft an OT, CB, Or DT/DE first round. Than trade up in the second round to get Torrey Smith. This is no time to full around with getting Krugers, Nakamuras, Pittas etc. Get those instant play makers now.

Muhammad Wilkerson or Cameron Heyward would be ideal first round picks for the Ravens, and in the second WR should be a definite, IMO

The defense has more value in late rounds than the offense. Most top offensive players go in the first 20 picks.I still have hope for Adrian Claybourne as DT pick for the ravens.
