The "I'm Sorry Joe".....thread

48 posts in this topic

ok, i will admit that i have been hard on Flacco at times due to how i perceived his gameplay throughout the season. while i do think that he is a good QB, i definately want him to improve in various areas of his gameplay (i.e. quicker reads, quicker release, remaining cool under pressure etc, etc, etc.)

but, i must apologize here. i recently watched the NFL Networks Replay of the Ravens vs Bills game. Joe Flacco was a pure beast in the Ravens passing game. sure, we can say that it was against the Bills but the Bills pushed the Ravens to the max that game and Joe-Cool responded well and looked great doing so!

so, i am officially going on the record in saying......

"I'm Sorry Joe!" LOL!

Ha, why apologize. Joe doesn't know and wouldn't care that you criticized him. The only ones who know or care are ussssss! Hehe, no. I understand what you're saying and it takes real guts to admit that you may have been a little harsh. I commend you! I've loved Joe from the minute he got here and although I've hated a lot of the decisions he's made in the heat of battle I've never wavered from my aforementioned love of him. He's got the grit, the mental toughness and the talent to continue being the best quarterback this team has ever had the honor of having on its roster.

I Love joe and I have since the day we drafted him. Has he made some Boneheaded mistakes at times, YES ! But ... Has he also came through Big for us, YES ! I can think of Several games that we never would of won or had the chance to win had it not of been for Joe. Joe was awesome in that Bills game, He stayed calm and took the reigns and brought us back into the game. The game in Pittsburgh with that awesome final drive - enough said. Also that Atlanta game, The offense struggled in the first half .. But Joe and Co. really made one heck of a comeback and really should of won that game. The Ravens home game vs Cleveland .. That was the Flacco/Boldin show. Also that Saints game -Eventhough he was more of a game manager in that one .. He made some Beauty throws, esp the one to rice. Him and Heap showed up big in that KC game too. I think this will really be a Great year for Joe, Esp if we can make Improvments with our O-line and a WR that can get downfield with some speed. I want to see us give him more control and lets see what he can do with it.

Joe has plenty of room to grow and get better in several facets of his game. I don't think anyone can argue that this is not the case. However, when you consider he played most of his college career at a Division II school and has only completed 3 seasons in the NFL, I am impressed by his progression and we are lucky to have the guy. He has improved statistically and in his play after every season and I have no reason to think he won't do his best to continue improving. When I consider all of the subpar QB play this franchise has endured (with the exception of Vinny back in the day and Steve on 06) it amazes me that Joe gets as much flak as he does. Some people are just never satisfied (and the early playoff success Joe has had sure didn't help some peoples' patience) but I am satisfied with his young career so far and I feel he will only progress as he learns more and adds more to his game. Besides, who out there is better than him right now? Exactly...

If you want to find someone to blame just look at the two boneheads standing on the sideline wearing headsets.

First -- check out the stubborn know-it-all with the doghouse.... his name is Harbaugh.

Then -- check out the guy who runs a vertical offensive scheme with possession receivers who can't get separation down field. His name is Cam Cameron.

Add their boneheaded playcalling to a porous O line and then volunteer to go and stand back there and throw footballs. Joe is one hell of a QB...unfortunately, his coaching staff leaves much to be desired.

LOL

Yeah, not holding my breath for the Flacco haters to turn around no matter what this season. We are ranked #31 in terms of strength of schedule. Even if we win the SB, they'll be "yeah, well, look at the cake schedule" lol

Flacco will never be Brady, Manning, Favre, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, etc. because we don't need him to be. We are a meat and potatoes offense. We need to run the ball more and we just need him to get us some first downs along the way. We don't need him to throw 35+ passes a game. Thats ridiculous. We have pro bowl running backs and no disrespect to him but he isn't capable of carrying this team. Give the ball to ray rice, whether its a hand off or a check down pass. There is no shame in winning.

You're wrong. Our running game was dismal last season. Our O line was beyond porous. We did not have a single WR that could get good separation. We had no burner. We had uncharacteristic defensive let downs. Yet, we lost only 4 games and were in every single game until the final gun. I think Joe carried the team fine. Is he a Brady, Manning, etc? Not yet but if those are the names you need to quote to make him look bad, well, guess he's getting there. We ran more last season than in the previous 2 seasons. We do not need to run more. We need to have a more balanced attack and a more creative one.

Exactly. Took the words out of my mouth. We averaged barely 4 yards on the ground, and that number rose from what was like 3.6 yards per carry most of the season. Also, Rice had 4 plays of 20+ yards or something like that (heard it on NFL Network). The running game did not carry us. Our defense gave up leads in 7 games this year: Falcons, Browns, Steelers (twice including playoffs), Texans, Patriots, and then there was the just all around horrible performance of the Bills game defensively.

I'll say this a thousand times. Flacco isn't perfect or elite...yet. But all signs seem to point to the face that he's improving and a vital part of our team. Without Flacco, we don't go 12-4 last year. More like 8-8 or around there.

that's all i've been saying as well! but, Joe is a good QB and if he cleans up a few things in his "overall" gameplay then he is well on his way to greatness!

His footwork is my biggest problem with him. His delivery is usually compact, but he doesn't always set his feet or show decisiveness in throws. Holding on to the ball too long, "rookie mistakes" are all subjective problems that are over scrutinized and also problems with the offense as a whole. His footwork though, if improved, I think would really help accelerate his game to the next level.

I stand by my argument that he manages games, I can't really think of a game he has played where he has put the team on his back. Like I said, our defense and running game is our strengths and he keeps us afloat and moves the chains and gets us redzone touchdowns.

I dont know he saved that Buffalo game...but that game should never have been close, Fabian Washington decided to show us once and for all why Oakland actually got rid of a guy with 4.33 speed lol

Flacco has something that none of those guys possess minus maybe Rodgers. Flacco possess a powerful arm, with great accuracy, and the ability to scramble. He is a complete athlete that just needs more time to fine tune his skills. I guarantee that Flacco shows the world. that he is one of the best Qb's in this league. Ill put him up against any one of those Qb's in a year or two.

I actually agreed with your first post, until i saw this one. In your first post i agreed because what you explain with the Ravens is exactly what made both Brady and Manning great QBs in their young careers. Both Brady and Manning had really good running games and relied on them heavily to win the Super Bowl. The Ravens will make sure Rice is used.

However this post here, i can't disagree with more. I can point to a hand full of games that Flacco put this team on his back and either won or should have won.

Playoff game against the #1 seeded Titans his rookie year. Chris Johnson and that offense took advantage of a tired Ravens defense early. If Flacco doesn't lead the offense down the field and tie the game up on a prefect TD pass to Mason, that game might get away from the Ravens. Flacco also led the game winning drive.

His first game ever against the Steelers in Pittsburg. Flacco made huge plays in that game, but the defense let us down late.

In 2010, in Pittsburg Flacco put this team on his shoulders, and should have lead a game leading TD drive, but Mason dropped a wide open TD on a perfect pass. The score of that game should have been 27-20, but the Ravens end up losing 20-23

The Vikings game of the same year, Flacco led the Ravens back and should have led a game winning drive, but Hauskca missed a game winning FG.

The NE game, Flacco was leading a game winning drive when Clayton drop a 4th down pass.

Flacco play huge in the game last season against, ATL and probably should have won that game.

Those are just a few games that Flacco put the team on his shoulders. He's not just a game manager. Brady, Manning, right now? No, but I think people need to understand how great it is to be comparing Flacco to the likes of Brady, Manning, Brees, and other great/elite QBs, because we could be comparing him to Boller, Redman, Wright, and a long list of other Ravens QBs who couldn't get it done.

People DO need to understand that when Joe falls short of Brady or Manning ... in his third year ... it's pretty amazing.

Will they understand that? No, because they want a championship in Baltimore, and nothing short of that will do. I can understand where they're coming from, because I want one too and we all do, but calm down, guys. Joe is not the problem.
