Heading to next season I'm very optimistic. We have a long road ahead, but the season will more then likely end with us at the top of AFC North or the second seed. The second seed will give get us into the Playoffs with a bye....

Hate to break it to ya but we need to win the division to get the second seed...but yea the second seed in the AFC Conference does get a bye

I say the Steelers hate that game the most. They will still be riding the high of coming back beating us in the playoffgame and what better way than to play them at our house and beat them for the first game of the season and who knows what they win can do for the confidence of our team and its a slim chance that it could affect the Steelers in a negative way for their first half of the season games.

I absolutely love we are facing them at home for the first game of the season, anything else would be........uncivilized!
Not really anything of substance here I guess, but maybe an interesting thought... have the Ravens and Steelers ever played against each other with both teams coming off a loss in their previous game? In any event, that's oddly enough the case here, since the Steelers lost the Super Bowl.

Personally I love that we play the Steelers early. I love the week 1 match: let's see who comes back from their awful ending to the previous season (awful for BOTH teams this time, but for different reasons for each team obviously). I think the Ravens have the mental advantage on this one, especially with it being a home game. If they win it, they can ride high to week 9 and take the season sweep. Nothing would be sweeter. Having the Steelers out of the picture by the midway point in the season is just a great prospect.

I love that we get the Jets right before out bye week as well. I thoroughly believe that the Ravens performed so poorly in Week 2 against the Bengals last year because the Jets game the week prior had been so taxing. It's good to get a rest after the Jets this year, although even if we didn't I don't think it could be as bad as last year: that game last year was delayed due to thunderstorms, so it ended very late, and it was a Monday game, so the Ravens had a very short rest period for Week 2. This year the Jets won't spoil us for whatever team plays us after them!

We play the NFC West this year, as well, which is easily the preferred division for inter-conference play.

Colts, Chargers, Jets, and 2x Steelers are the only real challenges we face in 2011. 11-5 season is my worst-case scenario prediction. We either win all 11 games we should and lose all 5 games that are questionable, or maybe we drop a fluke or 2 from the 11 we probably should win but also win a game or 2 from the 5 that are up for grabs. Realistically we could tie the franchise season record at 13-3, or even break it at 14-2.

It's gonna be a good one!

To all you Baltimore football fans, around 40 years old or older ... I apologize in advance as I'm sure this is a sore-subject.

When the COLTS were still there, they were in the same division as the BILLS and whenever playing in Baltimore they always kicked-off late .....

While all the east coast games kicked off at 1 pm ET, the COLTS games always kicked off at 2 pm ... and I always wondered why ... can somebody please answer this??

I'm new here so I can't initiate new posts

Thanks ... and best wishes this upcoming season

Baltimore has one of the largest Church populations of any city and there were constant protests about the starting times of certain events in our city (traffic, parking, noise etc). It was agreed upon to have our home games at 2:00 and it wasn't until 1983 that Schaefer moved the start time to the conventional 1:00 time slot. It was in an effort to keep the Colts in Baltimore, but clearly it did not work :(

Ahhhh ... so that was the reason, thanks!

It used to drive me nuts having to wait that extra hour whenever the BILLS played at Baltimore. I was just a lil' kid after the merger and usually had problems keeping myself occupied 'til 1 pm .... the 2 pm game each year in Baltimore had me crawling up the walls.

Pro-Football-Reference.com has all the old box-scores but show the start times even in the mid-late 70s at 1 pm in Baltimore, but I always remember it as 2 pm ... great site, but they really screwed that up.

Thanks alot for the explanation ...

Does anyone think that there will be a preseason this year? How would the lack of training camp and preseason effect the schedule?

There will be preseason and training camp (shortended), buts it the OTA's that will be missed and put a damper on the young players progression and the older vets health.

We haven't agreed on much over the last week or so, but those are my exact feelings. I predicted the lockout would last at least 120 days. Whenever I hear about them being close, i don't buy into it, because close isn't done.

I'm already a nut when it comes to football, I would hate to get wrapped up into this supposed end to the lockout only to be let down.

I'm about to start a riot with this statement, but the lack of OTA and a shortened TC will also hurt our offense. IMO

I'm hoping Gaither returns at LT, but if he doesn't that means either Cousins, Reid, Harewood, or a FA like Damien Woody would be our RT. All of those guys would have to get used to playing next to Yanda and vice versa, with Cousins having the slight edge in that department.

Then on top of that, we probably won't have McClain and McGahee returning, so timing of the running game might be affected as well. What will be Allen and Steele's role, and how quickly will they adjust to them. Can we trust either guy in pass protection?

Having Q, Mason, and Heap will be a great thing and should be able to get of by in the passing game. However Smith, Hardy, Doss, Reed, Dickson, and Pitta will all be effected by the shortened camp.

Although Reed Dickson and Pitta know the playbook, they'll be asked to do more this year and not being able to install that part of the offense in OTA's will hurt.

As I said before, having Q, Mason and Heap should be enough to get us by until the young guys really start to come into their own.

A seemingly easy schedule should help, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see our offense not start as fast as some of us would hope.

It will, but how bad will it be when compared to other teams? The way I see it is, we've have had our coaching staff pretty much in place for a few years, our core guys have been together for a few years. We won't be as bad off as teams with young pieces and new coaches. Our team will have changes, but about as much as any other team. Every team will most likely be 'flat'.

The longer the lockout, the more teams are going to separate themselves into two categories, elite and crap. Increased parity would take a break this year. We should be pretty well off.

How bad were we compared to other offenses last year? And this fan base acted as if we were the worse offense in the nfl.

I actually don't think we'll struggle at all to be honest, because as you said, we've been together for 3 years now. As for the young guys they don't have to have a big role on the offense early, so Q, Mason, Boldin, and Rice should be able to get us to the bye week.

Should be a good one for the Ravens. It'll probably be Derrick Mason's last game in Nashville and I'm sure he'll want to put on a show.

the fact that Jacksonville hosts us in the MNF still makes me mad.

Is Jacksonville gonna Cover up thousands of seats to sell out that game too?

Whens the last time we had a MNF in Baltimore?

The embarrassment of Bart Scott throwing a temper tantrum back in 2007 vs NE.

Great game, but terrible ending.

Man im very excited that we finally get to play on Thanksgiving.

I was just telling my friend last season that it would be cool if the Ravens could play on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving games are thee most watched Football games.

You know the one and only reason we get that good of a spot is because we are playing Harbs. brother and it will make for good T.V.

Im praying we lay them out (49ers).

Cant wait for week 1 and put the first nail in the coffin for the Stealers.

Yea it is getting old, nevermind its been old, im sick of seeing all these other teams getting MNF games. When half the time they dont deserve it.

The RAVENS arnt some no name team, we are a legitimate contending Football Team year in and year out.

I just want The RAVENS to get some respect But i dont want to see any Bandwagon fans jumping on board when we become a dynasty < Yes thats right i said it. The RAVENS will become a dynasty the legitimate way. (not cheating and video taping other teams

Cousins is done to me in my book, after seeing all those flags not once a game, multiple times and sometime one after another. I cant remember if it was last season or the last. But i remember losing my mind seeing the yellow flags everywher, you would think there were Stealers fans on the field.

I think we have a good schedule this year to do some damage. 11-5 is my guess at this point, but I'm gonna hold off to guess for sure until we know where all these UFA's are going to be. Go Ravens!

since the Ravens organization is sooo bent on not drafting or signing players with "off-the-field" issues, they need to hold the coaching staff to that same standard.

They still smacked every team they played AFTER they got caught. The week after they got caught they thrashed the
Jets 48-14 or something crazy like that. The team still has to play.

Back on Ravens though... I dont think 14-2 is impossible. 16-0 is even a possibility, crazy to think about, but if our rookies, second years, and third years develop, we could very well be the BEST team this year.
