Question About Ray Lewis

6 posts in this topic

Ray Lewis, future H.O.F Linebacker fell to Baltimore at the 26th pick in the 1996 draft. Does anyone know where he was projected to get drafted at? Or how much further he was going to drop had Baltimore not drafted him? Just curious..

Tough to say exactly, the knock on him out of Miami was he lacked the ideal size for a MLB in the NFL. He wasn't 6'2 250 pounds basically. I think out of Miami he was 6'1 240, it actually may have helped him out but the Ravens stuck him at the Will(I think it was the Will) LB spot for a good chunk of his first season in to get acclimated to the game. By next year he was around 245, and soon after he was at his normal 250 pounds that he plays at.

I think strictly talent wise he was the best MLB in that draft, but teams were scared off from him because of his size, so its tough to tell where he would have gone if the Ravens didnt take him.

Well I knew he was undersized coming out of Miami and that hurt his draft stock. But I was asking if anyone knows where he was projected to go prior to the draft.

Being super curious, I found this:

30
Dolphins (from Cowboys) Ray Lewis, LB, Miami
"We won't stand still," Johnson says. If he has a shot at a premier running back, he'll move up. Otherwise, he'll take the best linebacker left.
