Life Coach Gives Up On Jamarcus Russell

29 posts in this topic
Now, the draft bust's life coach, John Lucas, is calling it quits.

He's done with Russell because the quarterback stopped working hard and reportedly no longer listens to advice, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Lucas hit his boiling point, per the report.
Now this is just getting sad... :34853_doh:

I have no idea the relationship between a "life pupil" and a "life coach" but... how can this "coach" consider himself anything more than a fraud by giving up on a client? The reason someone would seek counseling services, presumably, would be that they've lost direction in their life and confidence in themselves. Isn't that what a "life coach" is supposed to do? Help his clients overcome that? I'm pretty disturbed that someone who would consider themselves a "coach" and "mentor", on a professional level, would just stop trying.

How did the JaMarcus Russell of life-coaching meet the JaMarcus Russell of football? :34853_doh:

Also, I saw this in the article and loved Ozzie a little bit more...
Per the report, highly respected Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, a Hall of Fame tight end with the Cleveland Browns and an Alabama legend, refused to meet with Russell during the Senior Bowl. The meeting was intended to motivate Russell.
B, I agree with you, but at some point even the greatest can throw in the towel when they're faced with an insurmountable obstacle.....i.e. making a Russell a respectable human being!

True. But still... it's your job. The Falcons were a sorry bunch of losers when Bobby Petrino left them mid-season, still didn't make it right.

This "life coach" is pathetic, you don't give up on a client who's been going through hell.
Going through hell? Everything Russell did he did to himself, he got fat, he became lazy, he spent all of his 60 mil, he lost his job because he became fat and lazy, and then started doing codeine. Its not like Russell was in Afghanistan, and suffering from shell shock or PTS, its not like his wife had an affair or his kid has a degenerative disease and is dying before his eyes. You know real things that affect people.

Russell is a piece, plain and simple, frankly if the guy himself doesnt want to be productive human being I dont see how you can "coach" him up to do something with himself. Your an idiot if you need a "life coach" in general...how smart do you have to be to know your lazy and you need to fix that? How smart do you have to be to know that if you spend all your money your going to be broke?

The guy is a joke.

How does one go about becoming a life Coach to Millionaires and bill them in the hundreds of thousands?

This might be a business venture worth looking into.

Agreed, one hundred percent. I'd say that life coach is pretty brave to even attempt to bail out someone who seems to want to fail so badly.

I'm so sad about this fall of J-Russ.... I watched him in college and saw a good player who with time/work could become great, another Daunte Culpepper before injuries kind of deal. Russell had work to be done to be a star, but if he kept going at the pace he did in college, would be a decent starter...... well, he actually went backwards in his prep/attitude, and ended up a failure, plain and simple. There's no way around the word failure, J-Russ is the prime example of a failure. I'm disgusted and saddened at this news article at the same time.

Someone fails if they don't try, he tried and couldn't handle the pressure. Not sure that makes you a failure, you just wasn't man for that job. End of story. He, Ryan leaf, and many others, just couldn't make the transition from college to the pros. They got payed to quit. Who's the fool? The guy that got payed for virtually nothing, or the one's paying him?

How hard could it be to be a life coach? They're already alive, right? You're halfway there! From there it's just being paid hundred thousand dollars to eat Jamarcus' pizzas before he gorges on them himself.

Where does it show he tried? Seems to me like he got handed everything on a silver llatter and was going off hia god given abilities and never had to work for anything and it bit him hard once hw got to the pros...

Dude is hilarious.. Deserves every bit of it.. I work harder in a week than he has his entire life.. Yea thats where im heading right now work and its 3 am

I agree 100% with this post. If Russell had tried, he would've been successful in the league. He had every physical talent that a Qb could ask for: size, strength, arm power, and he still failed. Why?? Because he didn't try. He tried in college to get a hefty paycheck, then he just quit on everyone.

Shoot, give Pennington Russell's physical abilities, we would be adding Pennington to top 5 Qb's to ever play the game. I'm totally confident in that.
Do you know how hard it is to play college football? It demands alot of your time and im not going to mention the wear and tear on your body. Playing football at the Nfl level is another animal in itself. Don't criticize, if you haven't done it, its hard work.

You're too much, man....too much!

This has to be a part of every one of your posts in some form or fashion.

We can criticize all we want. Russell was, is and always will be a joke and the punchline to many a joke from here on.

If someone as big as Russell can't make it because the training is too hard, then how in the heck is Woodhead playing a role in the Pats offense??? Russell has all the physical talent in the world, and still failed. That leads me to think his mentality wasn't right, which in turn leads me to think that he didn't try to get better, he just took the easy route; cash his check, then do nothing.

I once was a huge fan of Russell when he was in college, and felt that he deserved a top 5 pick in the draft. I live in SEC country, so every weekend I had a chance to watch his talent. I can tell you with 110% certainty that he failed because he wanted to.

My problem is not the fact that everyone has not played the game. The point i was trying to make was that you compare football to your nine to five which is almost laughable. There are alot more hours of work that go into playing football than people see. There is film study( you studying yourself and the tendencies of the other team). Then there is opponent study (you studying who you lining up against week in and week out). Practice, Games, and meetings are what everyone seems to see most. Then weight training, dieting, and the business aspect of the game. Add all that up before you say you do more work than any professional athlete please. Although he may be the butt of many jokes im sure he is laughing with you when he goes to the bank.

Him being broke to you and I is still set. Foreclosure on his home in the bat area means that he has no intention of staying, and maybe the house is over priced in today's market. There can be variables in play here. Jamarcus im sure, still has a nice piece of that 30 something mil left to spend. Just sayin.

That fact alone should be enough reason to implement rookie salary cap

That is a really good job your doing in starting the businesses and still managing to find time to work at 22, but what you are saying is that you don't respect a man that has made the same type of commitment, he just wasn't good at it. Im sure you like what ever business you started right? Well in the league you are your own business. Like you they are 22, 23,24, when they enter the league.they should be out drinking and partying, but that changes. Some like what they do, some don't, but its a paycheck. I played also, college and the NFL, trust me its hard work.
