Pj Daniels On Ir Again?, Green Cut

In other Ravens news, the team placed two backups, running back P.J. Daniels (shoulder) and linebacker Prescott Burgess (wrist), on injured reserve, ending their seasons.

The Ravens also released fullback Justin Green, a fifth-round pick in 2005 who had a presence on special teams. Because of the number of injuries, the Ravens needed to cut Green from the 80-man roster to add more depth at other positions.

"I think he'll get picked up very quickly," Harbaugh said. "If he doesn't, he still could possibly be in our plans."

i can't belive PJ daniels is injured again

Well, this now turns the competition for the third-string RB slot into a three-man race between Cory Ross, Allen Patrick, and Alex Haynes.

You have to believe that the pressure's on for all three guys since none of them have any sort of job security.

Cory Ross will likely get the nod since he brings a lot of trades to the table (RB, kick returner, punt returner, possible FB), but he still has to perform since he'll be getting fewer opportunities, period. Allen Patrick may be a draft pick, but as a 7th-round selection, he's expendable if he doesn't even make it to the practice squad. And Alex Haynes was undrafted when he was first signed (and released) by the Ravens a couple of years back, so he's even more expendable than Patrick.

I think justin green was a good fullback, maybe not better than mcclain, but still he was good in pass blocking.

I agree. That's why I was saying that, given how Green was a roster space casualty, he'll likely be brought back after two of the three guys competing for that third RB slot are either cut or placed on the practice squad.

Gotta disagree with you Franchise on Cory Ross as a fullback, that would be like using Rice as a fullback, two similarly "undersized" running backs. Of course I guess that's why you used the word "possible" fullback.

I don't understand why we put PJ on injured reserve instead of just cutting him. Sorry PJ, I support every single Raven but you haven't even been in a real NFL game and you've been with us for 3+ years, all due to injuries...

I wouldn't count Allen Patrick out yet, he can return kicks and punts as well, which just goes to show we are loaded with potential return guys (Figurs, Ross, Patrick, Nakamura, Zbikowski, even Reed occasionally). If he can make an impact on special teams I think he gets the nod over Ross, he's a lot bigger and potential stronger than Ross, plus he didn't do bad at all in Oklahoma after AP left the starting job vacant for him.

Yup, you hit the nail right on the head. I've never personally seen (or even heard of) Cory Ross playing fullback, so I wouldn't know if he's a good fit as that position, especially his size. (hence the quotation marks)

However, I've seen smaller guys block and hit pretty well (see: Maurice Jones-Drew), so it wouldn't be a bad experiment. But to be honest, that's all it'd likely be -- an experiment.

As for Allen Patrick, I understood what Coach Harbaugh saw in his versatility, hence why I wasn't too shocked as to why he was drafted after doing a little bit of research on him.

I'm glad you saw the pattern I saw in the make-up of Harbaugh's team; most every new acquisition, both through the draft and free agency, has some sort of versatility, especially leaning towards special teams.

And since this team's biggest problem last season (other than scoring & injuries) was field position, I'd say that Coach Harbaugh might've patched that problem up pretty nicely, getting some good skill position players as an added bonus. But really, that all remains to be seen until later this preseason and during the regular season.

I don't see 5'6'' Cory Ross playing FB this year...

I haven't heard much about Alan Patrick. What's his deal? Any good? What if we picked up Travis Henry? He's a free agent and he's been on the market for awhile, so his price should be relatively low. I'd LOVE to see a McGahee-Henry-Rice back field this year. That would be sick

Dude, c'mon, the constant requesting of new players is really dragging along. It's less than a month from opening day, we're most likely not getting anyone.

 yeah it's less than a month away from the season opener and our STARTING running back is about to undergo knee surgery...We have 2 rookies and then alex haynes? as our RB options...we BETTER bring somebody in. Are you kidding me?

If rice goes down then what?

If Travis Henry would stop failing drug tests and stay away from weed, he'd go to more Pro Bowls.

But, as it stands, he's been suspended for this upcoming season, and I believe was cut by the Broncos. So he won't be a free agent until next offseason, if he gets reinstated.

I am not kidding you, apparently McGahee's surgery is supposed to be minor. I admit, surgeries are never good, especially knee surgery, especially on a running back, but they say he should be back in time. Cory Ross and Ray Rice are not Willis McGahee, by any means, but they can still be productive. Have a little faith in the organization, I think they know what they're doing.

If rice goes down then what?

If Ray Rice goes down, we'll ALL be crying for another RB. But until then, It's not even a concern.

Ray Rice won't get injured...*knock on wood... lots of wood!*

I'm optimistic McGahee will start. This kind of surgery is "minimally invasive". It's not like they're going to cut him open. Gotta love advances in technology!

If Rice goes down then no one will be knocking on wood due to trying to break it on stuff. I know I would.
Rice is ironclad, the kid will never be injured.

CORY ROSS

Ahhh how it feels to be right. I accept your apology Berad. I guess I did know what I was talking about after all (like always). We just added an additional pro bowl back (lorenzo Neil) to our running game. What a co-inky dink...McGahee has surgery and less than 1 day we have a new Back on our team. What are the odds... ;)

He's a fullback, he'll see the ball all of 2 times in a game, probably a less with McClain back there. You're overreacting to his addition just to prove your point. Oh, and try to spell his name correctly, at least.

Where's Travis Henry?

But yada-yada you were right. We did bring "somebody" in. I'm not so stubborn, I can admit I was wrong.
