18th?

They must be thinking of another team or something. Our defense is still dominate and they will prove it again this season.

i went with the 3rd option because if we end up playing with half of our starting roster due to injuries like last season i dont think we will have much of a chance but hey thats just my opinion.

I signed up for fantasy on NFL.com, and Baltimore's Defense/Special teams was projected as 18th this year. I don't understand it. I thought for sure we'd be in the top 5.

I guess they think that our starters are going to get injured again.

The vast majority of the analysts fall hook, line, and sinker for the common misconception that our defense is aging, when if they just took a look at our roster, the only guys on our d that might even be possibly slowed down by age this year are Ray, Trevor, Samari, and to a lesser degree CMac. We have a bunch of YOUNG guys who are already stalwarts of this defense (Ngata, Suggs, Landry, Fabian Washington, Barnes) lots of good depth (Justin Bannan, Dwan Edwards, Frank Walker, etc) and a few very eager and talented rookies in Gooden, Nakamura, Zbikowski, and Jameel McClain.

As far as special teams go, did they not take into account Harbaugh was a special teams coach for 9 years? Wouldn't you expect a coach with that type of background to have a team that excels at special teams? Did they not see the Pats preseason game where Figurs gained 100 return yards off of 1 punt and 1 kickoff while our cover teams kept their returns to a minimum AND forced and recovered a fumble on special teams?

Anyway, there's no need to explain further, we all know we will have top 5 unit in defense and special teams this year, who cares what the pundits think.

EDIT: Can someone post a link, I couldn't find the article when I just looked on NFL.com, I'm curious to see what how they over/underrated other teams.

i agree, analysts cant "predict" whats exactly will happen when the season starts..... noone can, those types of people are only speculating about the if's and or buts about each team in the NFL right now. In no way, shape or form does this have any sort of impact on a particular Team's performance we all saw how the "analysts" predictions turned up to be (for the most part) falsified information by the way one team would step up and the other would fall time and time again.

Noone can predict or know exactly what will happen because thats just not a reasonable thought, let alone realistic. So when these so call "Rankings" come out each and every year, it means nothing but speculation, which is only talk...talk, and oh yea....more talk. and thats why lat season you saw Teams that were "Ranked" lower on the anaylsts boards, step it up, and play better than most expected, then you start to see those Rankings go right out the window, and then you start seeing those People doubling back on their own words saying things like "well i didnt say they didnt have the talent to do so because they certainly do" and " We all know that This Team has the talent, it was just a question of could or can they get it done out there on the field, as to why they started off so low in the rankings prior to the season" type of stuff.

Noone wants to be proven wrong, thus is exactly why you see so many people or and "experts" doubling back on their words when a team or something performs better than expected or doesnt perform up to expectations.

Yes, it if for fantasy, but it does mean something. To me it's still a slap in the face.

Just a slap on the face? Its more like a backhand. These analysts need to go and slap themselves in the face.

Fantasy football is a game, but it's directly based on the real players. Last year, Tom Brady was the best fantasy quarterback to have, because he was the best quarterback in real life.

Not quite. It all depends on the setings used in each particular league. Each event is assigned a certain point value. If the assignment favors a player's or defense's style then that player or defense will get a higher rating. some events aren't even used or given a point value. Additionally the defensive rating is the most flexable because you can count individual player events like tackles or passes defended that aren't even counted in some leagues that use overall stats for defense rather individual player stats.

I'm sure that now you have a keen grasp of fantasy football scoring and can now go out and win every league you join. Thank you.
