Marvin Lewis Wants Newton

24 posts in this topic

Apparently Marvin Lewis likes Akili Smith alot....err Cam Newton. Only thing that scares me about Newton is that our defense isn't as fast as it used to be so might have trouble containing that. I would love to see him throw in Ed's direction though.

LOL all Marvin all had to know was that he had off the field issues... and that made him a favorite from the beginning lol. Though I guarantee the Bengals are going to have to basically give everything away to move up 3 spots with the Panthers and make sure they can get him... and for some odd reason I have always envisioned the Panthers trading down with the Bengals to get Cam Newton.

This may be more a shot in Carson's direction more than anything else... do people really think he's going to retire?

Despite all of the controversy, I actually think that Newton is going to become a good QB in the league. He's huge, athletic, and really does have a good arm. But I also think he'd get eaten alive in our division, which is why I don't think the Bengals will draft him

Um... So would Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, Ryan Mallett, Christian Ponder or any other QB the Bengals draft. I would not want to be a rookie QB drafted to a division where you play Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, James Harrison and Troy Polamalu twice a year. I'll welcome Cam Newton to the AFC North... just that he won't last long.

Lets not forget about Terrell Suggs, Lamarr Woodley, and Lawrence Timmons either. They can be added to Lewis, Reed, Harrison, and Polamalu IMO

I don't see Newton being there for the Bengals to begin with, so sorry Marvin. But really, whether or not Newton has the physical skills, he's not ready mentally for the pros. Not to mention, Newton's worked exclusively out of the shotgun position, and was very prone to just running if his number one option wasn't open. Personally, I think the best option for Newton is someplace he can ride the bench for a year as the back-up while he hones his professional game. That means if Palmer is no longer a Bengal, Cincinnati won't be that place.

Bradford would have done well against our defense last season. The Rams wouldn't have beaten us, but him alone would have kept them in the game.

Well, apparently Jon Gruden could understand why Lewis would want him. NFL.com is saying that Gruden says Newton is "the best player in country". *shakes head* Leave it to Gruden.

Well, Gruden's top player in the country was between Newton, Gabbert, Ponder, Dalton, Kaepernick, Locker, Mallett etc. so it's not much of a surprise that Newton comes out on top of that pile.

Gruden wears on me more and more every time I hear him talk and hype somebody up...seriously nobody calls James Farrior "father time" not a single damn person.

When it comes to Gruden, you only have to do something remotely impressive in his presence for him to label you the best.

Our some of our fans forgetting that the bengals have owned us recently? Newton would just make the bengals that more dangerous. I have to agree with Lewis that if Palmer leaves Newton might be the answer. Then again a few other qbs might be the answer as well we never kno until they play.

The teams have split the games they've played against the Bengals going back to the 2008.

Newton obviously has some great physical tools but I doubt he'd play any better than than Palmer has in recent years if the Bengals drafted him.

I think Cam will be better then Palmer. Maybe not his rookie year but over his career he will. None the less tho it makes it that much harder for us when we play them since Flacco is terrible against their defense.

I just feel the Bengals should move on and cut ties with Palmer and draft a QB. A career in the NFL is a short one for most and the organization is wasting his time and theirs by not letting him go. Not that i care about them improving but one would think that they would want to move forward and win a Super Bowl.

We'll see. Palmer's game has fallen a part since injuries took their toll but back in '05, he was easily among the best in the league. I don't like dislike Newton but I don't see him reaching those heights.

To your last point, the entire offense is terrible against Cincy's D. The Ravens o-line frequently struggles in pass protection and the WRs struggle to get separation more than usual.

The only time I remember the running game working was the first game last season and Cam put the kibosh on by continuing to call passing plays.

Well, as we can see, this never happened, lol.

We never got the chance to see it happen since the Panthers took Newton!
