Coach Cam's New Offensive Look

How great would that be? You know, to have an offense that like, scored touchdowns? Oh man. I'd be the happiest guy in the world.

i wasn't impressed by the offense at all. not because of the lack of nice plays, lack of effort, or gifted players... but because of the lack of all those things on the OFFENSIVE LINE. this is easily the worst offensive line in the NFL when it comes to pass protection. last year the OL was somewhat decent in runblocking but this year even that is not there. tom brady would perform just as bad behind that OL.

we keep drafting quarterbacks instead of protecting the quarterbacks or putting good players around them. this is the problem. our QBs don't even have the chance to seperate themselves from each other because they are all under pressure within .5 seconds. people complain mcnair lost it because he was getting force fumbled etc but now we can see how this is happening to all our qbs. They are swarmed by defenders right when the ball touched their hands. now you can no longer blame mcnair or billick? who r u all going to blame now? fire rex ryan and then draft another QB in 09?

teams like the chargers, pats etc are only so good because they actually realize the game is won in the trenches. i think joe flacco has loads of potential - just as much potential as boller once had, but this team needed to draft at least 2 starting tackles in the first few rounds, instead they came out with none and now we have people we pick up off he street to play T because we passed on guys like Ryan Clady... who now in denver is already being acclaimed as a pro bowler.

In all fairness, we did use our first round pick last year on an OL.

yeah but thats one guy. Hes developing slowly, and our C Jason brown is decent as well. Thats a total of 2 players who will always start. And we do not bother to add any depth or bring in competition. there were a couple guys like olivea available who we passed on like we always do as well as in the draft. but besides depth, we don't even have any starting caliber Ts on the roster.

I wasn't saying that our OL was great, or that you were wrong, just pointing out that we did use a 1st rounder on OL last year. Personally, Flacco wasn't my choice, but if we hadn't drafted a QB in the first round this year I feel like alot more people would have been up-in-arms about it. I don't know. OL is a concern for all of us here, for sure.

You know whats worse? Ryan Clady is looking like Joe Thomas 2.0

Sucks. But really, what are you going to do? Or, as they say here in New York; whaddayagonedo? We have who we have. And they HAVE to get it done. It's that simple.

Really sucks! We should have went O-Line in the 1st, WR (Limas Sweed) in the 2nd, can not belive we passed on him, and in the 3rd I bet you we still would have a good chance at landing Ray Rice. Next Years Draft Class is FILLED with good Qbs, Ima Flacco kinda guy but iono im starting to think maybe we rushed the whole Franchise Qb thing a lil bit.

I'll still hold off on my judgment until I see him play a couple games behind a better O-line, but Colt Brennan and Matt Ryans latest Performances definitely isn't helping any, really starting to make me wonder...

I think once the starters on the O-Line are back, along with our other receivers, TE and RB, the offense will really be able to blossom. We were missing A LOT of guys against the Pats, and we can't really take anything away from Joe's performance seeing as he had about .5 seconds to deliver the ball each snap!

Yeah man thats exactly what i thought and felt during the draft. I expecting us to grab an OT like Clady or a decent one in the 2nd or 3rd at least and a WR is the 2nd or 3rd. And i remember saying hey some good WRs are still on the board (and Ts) and when we passed on Limas Sweed i was so blown. Its not that Ray Rice is bad, in fact he was a good value at that spot, but we just didn't need him at all. If we were a team like the Cowboys (loaded at every position) that pick is understandable, but we are not. We had holes to fill at T and another WR like sweed would've been a nice addition... this is how you put good players around you QB to help them become successful and Boller or Smith along with Cam could've made something happen with protection and recievers. This draft was crucial for us and we blew it. And worst of all, the steelers got sweed because we allowed it.

From what I understand Ben Grubbs is developing QUICKLY. The interior of our 1st string line is pretty solid with him, Brown, and Yanda. It's the tackles that are killing the porduction of the line and making the whole thing look terrible. That said, at least Mike Kracalik is developing into a nice reserve tackle, don't think he's starter material though.

yanda looked terrible on thursday. brown was okay at center, but he is fantastic at LG. We are better off putting him in the position where he plays his best (almost at a pro bowl level) - i think he should go back to LG. Put Grubbs at RG and find a new C and RT via trade, FA, or draft next year. Or for center we should stick in Chester and see if he can perform or not this season. As for Yanda, he was a mediocre RT (but still wayyy better than Terry) and he doesnt look good at guard either.

If we don't bother to upgrade our current roster this year i think we are way better off with this lineup:

gaither, brown, chester, grubbs, yanda

our actual lineup

gaither, grubbs. brown. yanda, terry

IF Gaither ever decides to heal up, along with Terry, maybe we will be able to see what our O-Line is capable of... we are very young and athletic so that counts for SOMETHING. By the way, I really like Cousins and his passion and fire out there on the field, I just need to see him keep it under control when we get to game-time.

I hope our OL manages to stay healthy during the season.

Imagine if we had more guys who had the work ethic of Ray Lewis and Derrick Mason. If everyone played with the intensity Ray played, man we'd be a kick-*** team.

Wed not only be a kick-(bleep) team but we would also kick other teams (bleep)es at the same time.

Itd be too WOWZERS for my eyes.

Besides our defense is already AWESOME.

Good thing there is no charge for AWESOMENESS otherwise our fans would be broke thanks to the defense.

Chester? Are you serious? If Marshal looked terrible Thursday to you, than what was Chester? The correct answer on your comparison scale is disastrous.

Brown played center most of his college career in NC (the only reason I can think of that he was used as a LG extensively was because FLynn was occupying the center spot) and Grubbs was a left guard at Auburn so obviously those are the two positions they will stay at. Brown is such a good left guard because he is such a good and versatile player, period. The coaches obviously know this and that's why neither of them are moving.

Also if Cam and Matsko can help Kracalik continue developing, i wouldn't be surprised if he starts some games at right tackle this season. The guy is using Gaither and Terry's injuries to his advantage and is getting a lot of valuable playing time in camp and he will continue to get it in the preseason. And he is not looking bad all things considered either.

I also realized that Coach Cam had a certain TE named Antonio Gates who flourished in this offense and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAP!

Come on now, if Heap can't come back from a calf injury, he might as well not show up :P

To be honest, I highly doubt Coach Cam is really showing us (or opposing defenses) what he has in store this year. This is usually the case for most teams, do you guys think this is the case for us?

If I recall correctly on one interview, I think Troy Smith said that they've just scratched the surface of Cam's offense. So there is a lot more in store for us. Whether or not we can properly execute it is a different story...

That's the key: execution. In my opinion we should have a Top 5 Running Game this season behind McGahee and Rice and that opens it up down the field. A team that can stop the run (a skill at which we always excel) and run the ball will be successful...

One other seemingly new aspect of our offense has been more multiple WR sets and deeper patterns by the WR. However, the deeper the pattern, the longer the line has to hold up which could be an issue, although I really was impressed by our #1 line this past Thursday night.

No way. Our line-up right now is awesome and dripping with talent. Thanks to Cameron, all five of our guys are now playing the positions that are best for their skill-sets. They have only played one game together as a unit and looked solid. When they finally gel, defenses better look out. I think that the best part is that they've developed a real camaraderie.

As far as Jason Brown is concerned, I think that moving him to center was the best idea I heard all off-season. In our division, we need strength at the center of our line. Those guys are going to have to stop Casey Hampton, Shaun Rogers and all the other mammoth defensive tackles we play. The strength at the center will help us negate those super-strong D-lines. Look at how we did against Minnesota (Ray Rice ran wild if you forgot). Chris Chester is too small and weak. He is probably the most athletic lineman we have but he would get driven into the backfield every play. We drafted him in hope that he would bulk up, but it never really panned out.

All in all, I think that our O-line is going to be extremely dominate in the near future. We have excellent road-graders in the center and athletic pass-blockers on the edges. I see several pro-bowlers emerging.

I think theway Flacco has playedhis lst two games has boostedcour O-lines confidence and made them work harder. The way Flacco has given out all the credit to the guys in the trenches says a lot as well and I truley think we will be ok this year on offense. s somebody pointed out earlier they have only scratched the surface of Cam's offense and so far it looks amazing with the screens and shots down the field. I am always hype on our Defense but this year I am really excited to see this offense do some things. We all do need to expect some let downs because growing pains always come with new coaches and personnel but l all in all it should be a exciting year to say the least.
