Boller To Start Season?

12 posts in this topic

Kyle Boller is likely to enter the regular season as Baltimore's starter, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Mortensen doesn't give any clear reasons for this, but says the Ravens would open with Boller and hand the reigns to rookie Joe Flacco after a few games. The report indicates that Troy Smith may have fallen behind both. Baltimore writers would probably bet against this scenario.

What do you guys think about this?

Without knocking Chris Mortensen's credibility too much, let's just say I'd believe it if I heard it from John Clayton or the NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Anyone else beyond that is talking pure speculation, unless it comes straight from the horse's mouth (i.e. someone on the team with actual clout, like the head coach or a team rep).

By the way the first pre-season looked... Kyle Boller will be the man, He played WAAAY better then Smith "So far". Its only the first pre-season game though, I still have faith in Smith to make plays. But as I've said all along, let the guys have a competition, the best man should start. All you Troy Smith Fans should take a note, These QB's shouldent start because "they desearve ashot" because of how they played in the past, but how they have been playing Now.

There really can't be ANY determination made after tonight. For one, Boller looked like Boller usually looks, which is decent at times, but then come the costly mistakes! Smith was also just o.k., and he got lucky again with LBs dropping easy INTs, and thankfully game-tape will show this. Flacco didn't really have a shot playing behind 4th and 5th string linemen along with 4th, 5th, and 6th string receivers! When Joe gets more reps with the number ones (and playing time in the preseason with them) then maybe we can evaluate him a little more, but honestly there wasn't a lot to look at in regards to Joe's performance.

P.S. Yamon Figurs looks GREAT, along with our whole special teams and defensive units, as usual :D

I don't think it's fair to say that any of our quarterbacks were great. Smith didn't do anything horrible, but he was nothing more than average. Boller's mistakes got taken advantage of, which is why Smith might look better, and Flacco was just horribly unlucky.

Unfortunately based on this game there is no separation still. IMO Boller looked the best but he also had the best protection. When Smith came in his protection fell apart alot quicker and wasn't able to make the play he wanted. I'll wait til at least the vikings game before I start picking my QB to start, with the 4th preseason when I start coming to conclusions. BTW Flacco didn't have a chance to do ANYTHING as soon as he got the ball the pocket collapsed and he was done. Damn you weak SOB chester.
