Derrick Mason Calls Roger Goodell A "joke"

25 posts in this topic

Heard this on my way to class this morning. They were talking about the HGH testing and Mason said that the commissioner should focus more on the lockout issue instead of the testing. He called Roger Goodell a joke and when asked whether he would say it to him personally he said yes.

Starts from 3:30 to 5:05.

Pretty strong comments. I don't think he can be fined and no one from the team can say anything to him about it. I guess the players are taking their shots at Goodell during this lockout?

Mason is a union rep.
Not on the executive committee like Foxworth but still a rep.

I wonder but realy doubt that he cleared this with union leadership before calling out the Commissioner.
There should always be one message from a union.

While I can definitely see where Mason is coming from, if he was going to the the owner a joke he should have consulted the union first.

While, for the most part, I agree with Mason, he needs to get control of his mouth in sensitive areas like this. But kudos to him for being outspoken.

Both sides should just remain quite or, at least, stop sniping at one another. I don't know why Derrick Mason decided to throw his hat into the "_____ said _____" ring that this lockout has devolved to... at least he didn't say he was a slave or something :34853_shakehead:

He certainly is not a "Pete Roselle" I would put him down there with Paul Tagliabooooo "The ultimate Baltimore hater".

I wonder what would happen if I said that about my boss.

Stuff like this probablydoesn't endear them toward the public...

Gotta back him on this one, that's the cold hard truth.

I still don't like his comments on rookie prospects and the draft though, it seems very self serving.

I don't like Goodell either but last time I checked it was the players that walked away from the table on the deadline when the owners caved.

Is it bad to increase HGH testing? No. I don't want that in football. Brian Cushing is a great player but if he is going to miss 4 games because he roided, I wouldn't want a guy like that on my team.

I heard Eric Berry roided, you should trade him to me.

Going once... twice... sold!

While the issue is serious, the owners certainly have put the kid gloves on lately, and not just with that....

You gotta love how Mason never backs down from anybody regardless of whether you like his comments or not. If he comes back then hopefully we can get him that ring he deserves.

Were his comments unwarranted no not really, was he wrong last I checked he is an American citizen who has freedom of speech, could he have done it with more tact probably. However I do agree with him. If you have no football next season then HGH really never has any bearing on the field of play. If we are not playing football then we cant really say people are cheating at a sport that isnt played. I think he is absolutely right, write the check for the mortgage first then pay the car note. If this is what Godell is worried about instead of getting players on the field then he is nothing more than a whistle blower he is not an NFL fan, advocate, and certainly not someone who should be comissioner.

Goodell became a joke when he started taking out defenses from the game of football. He became a joke when he started fining players for stupid things and should be removed ASAP!

Fire Roger he is a joke. I think that about sums it up. Should Mason have said that definitely. Someone needs to address the fact that this guy has done nothing to improve the game.
