Pennington Released

Guarantee you Pennington is better than Boller. Pennington would have a been a Pro Bowl Caliber player if he never injured his knee.

I still think we should have taken Leftwhich when we had the chance last year instead of signing boller to a 1 year extension. And if Boller didnt take that extension, I guarantee you Leftwhich would have been our Opening Starter this year.

Are you serious? Leftwich? you saw what hppened to him without good protection. You know birds land and nest on the ball in the middle of his throwing motion right?

Now I wouldnt mind seeing Pennington, the guy is a smart vet, pretty accurate and has a quick read, and the shoulder thing is what Drew Brees went through. Why not pick him up?

After tonight, I dunno... but it looks like the Dolphins, and maybe ironically enough, the Packers of all teams may be interested!

A few reasons dude:

First and most obvious: durability. Chad has only started all 16 games once in his 8 year career. In other words; The guy has missed 30 starts due to injury since 2003. You don't invest a cent in someone like that with a suspect OL line we got.

Secondly, He is not that much of an upgrade. Look at the numbers from last year:

CP 1,765 10/9 86.1

KB 1,743 9 /10 75.2

They both had 8 starts and played in a few more games, so it's a pretty fair comparison, and the the only differences are really in completion percentage, and swapping the TD/INT ratio, which gives Chad a healthy looking QB rating, but he's not really any better than Boller anymore. IMHO, Chad Pennington is a one year wonder, 2002, and that was a long time ago.

We would be paying this guy to sit the bench by week 10, waste of cap room and roster spot.

Again, that's the main reason why I would've been gun-shy in getting him, even if he was available back in February/March.

Though I listed his potential as being greater than Favre's in this upcoming season if he were to be in this offense, I'll admit that his potential is limited since he's been in the league 8 years. He's been inconsistent, but there were a lot of outside variables that affected his play.

If Pennington doesn't live up to some of that promise in this 9th season, now with the Dolphins, his career is essentially done as a starter. Especially if he can't beat out Chad Henne/John Beck/Josh McCown/whoever-else-Miami-picks-up.
