Josh Wilson --#37

56 posts in this topic

Josh Wilson came to the Ravens and earned a starting job on our defense. He learned our system, and became an excellent playmaker. He has the speed to keep up with almost any WR in the nfl, and is always a threat on the pick 6.

Ozzie thought highly enough to trade picks for him. Obviously we are going to sign him up long-term. Wheres the love for the Maryland product?

Josh Wilson is an amazing player, a player who I thought was a steal when it was broken that we had traded a late round, conditional pick on. I'm glad we were able to get him, now all we have to do is give him a contract that locks him up for a couple of years. Get it done Ozzie!

We wouldn't have to worry about our secondary (besides LAndry missing tackles) if we had Foxworth 100% healthy, Wilson and Webb starting for us next year.

You could throw Carr in that equation as well, at it will be even better

Yes... Carr, while not amazing or flashy, is a corner who can do it all, a jack of all trades if you will. He's a great nickel corner, and stepped in a few times as a starter. He has definitely improved his game when we needed it the most.

This is a reason I'm very excited about our new D-Coordinator. He coached up our secondary to a very good unit for what we had available. Now that we have Austin in hand (who helped Rodgers-Cromartie maximize his talent while he was there, but since he's left, Cromartie has gone to a non-hardworking corner; Trufant, who isn't a reliable corner anymore, reached his maximum potential also under Austin). I think we'll have a great D this year, provided we find another pass rusher, whether it be Kindle or another guy. I believe Austin will help Webb come into his own over time.

I forsee us resigning Josh as soon as this CBA crap is dealt with. You don't give up draft picks (even if it was just a 5th) for a 26 year old corner with tons of starting experience and let him walk after 1 season. I think Chris could easily be resigned as well, but you never know. A lot of people have really underrated his abilities (including me when he first came here) but over the last season and a half he has really shown himself to be a very solid starter and I'm sure other teams have noticed. In any case, I'll take resigning Wilson and Carr and getting Foxworth back to go with Webb and Williams over drafting Jimmy Smith in the 1st as I have been seeing a lot lately.

Landry missing tackles...okay...he only recorded a career high in tackles and was 2nd on our team.

Not to get off topic here , although its already been done, but Dawan DID miss some HUGE tackles this year. The Jason Snelling TD in ATL, the Isaac Redman TD vs PIT. I love the guy, but I'm pretty sure the FA market for a solid veteran safety is gonna be too big a paycheck for him to pass on. There are a lot of teams that need starting help back there and in a draft class where the "experts" are saying Rahim Moore is the only starting caliber safety in it, Dawan will be elsewhere next year.

Good point..Austin should help webb improve a lot this year..esp with his technique..he did a good job staying with his man last year for the most part..(the antonio bryant play should of never happened though)..webb still has a ton of potential that can be reached in the recent future

In my opionion..resigning josh wilson should be one of our biggest priorites this off season..hes just reaching his prime..and he wants to play here..i don't expect it to cost us too much for him to resign with us..having carr as well would be great but if i had to choose one..it would have to be wilson

The love is out there, but you have to sift through all the Chris Carr lovers to find those who know Josh Wilson is the only free-agent corner this team had that is worth re-signing.

I like Wilson cause to go along with his solid coverage, good speed and tackling skills, he can be a threat in the return game and on interceptions. In his senior season he had 847 kickoff return yards, so hes just another option if we need a big play.

Chris Carr is a dependable, intelligent corner, and I really like him alot, but he does not have the explosive upside that Wilson does. Should be easy to keep both of them, I cant wait till that happens and the talk of signing Aso can go away.

I highly doubt that someone will get Landry, he is solid, nothing special about him to make another team throw out a lot of money at him.

Josh Wilson is definately a keeper. His play was impressive, the rest of the secondary issues will be sorted out if there is ever a new CBA worked out. Hard to evaluate your talent with no camp going on!

lol the man has an uncanny resemblance to a certain character labeled "spy" on the Baltimore Sun website. Wilson obviously has better upside and is younger while still being a solid corner. But to imply Carr isn't good is laughable.

Ozzie is top 5 Gm in the nfl easily, he is the best. How could anyone bash this man?

ohhhhh this guy finds a way, lately he's been on the "Ozzie can't find a 2nd rounder who is good" trend and to "keep him out of the war room this draft we'll do better without him". He gives Ozzie no credit at all for rebuilding the Ravens on the fly in 2008. Pretty much a miracle given we lost our starting QB, our HOF LT, our starting HB had off season knee surgery, our #1 corner needed knee surgery but didn't get it and washed out of the league after week 5.

He has consistently found talent in every round of the draft. What other Gm can find pro bowl caliber players when he drafts in the 20s every year. He has continued time again to find quality players in the undrafted free agents. I would not want any other gm lol crazy talk

We are set at corner. Foxworth comeback player of the year. Wishful thinking.
At least the injury happened to him in training camp, he will have had a full year to recover. With the depth of talent its a possibility, teams may have forgotten about him, especially with the emerging stars we have in the secondary. I think he will be huge for us this year, very smart player.

To the OP: Here's some love right here...I love Josh Wilson (in a platonic, football kind of way.) He's happy to be in Baltimore and I'm happy he came.

Yea, like Ray Rice and Terrence Cody weren't good picks. I would include Kindle in the equation if I wasnt positive someone would comment he injured himself.

Ya I mean I understand why people are mad on the surface with trading down and taking Kindle, and then Kindle almost killing himself but really if you analyze the move it was actually a very shrewd move. He traded down giving us our impact TE of the future in Dickson, and our #2 TE in Pitta to help run an Ace formation and help blocking schemes against the Steelers. Kindle was a top 15 talent in the entire draft last year and Ozzie gambled on him. I can't fault Ozzie for gambling on pick #43 on a guy who without his drinking problem would have gone top 15. Ozzie gambled and so far lost, but I'd rather take that chance on Kindle than go with a guy like Koa Misi for him to be the future at LOLB and to get 6 sacks a season.
