Called the "Water Buffalo" by opposing players because he was big, slow, and easy to sack - he had the mobility of the animal. Everything you look for in a QB.

no one else in the Ravens franchise will EVER wear the #52 jersey. they will retire it.

and...the Ravens need to erect a Ray Lewis statue outside of the stadium somewhere. sure, in all due respect to the long standing history...Johnny U's statue is out there but that represents an archaic colts era that has long past.

Ray Lewis is not only the greatest MLB in NFL history but he also represents the team that gave the city of Baltimore it Superbowl Championship in 2000. that WAS NOT the colts! sorry! it was the...BALTIMORE RAVENS!!

RAY LEWIS = BALTIMORE RAVENS!

I saw GOAT today at BWI Concourse D. He was arriving and looked in great shape. I was pumped to talk to him but didn't have an opportunity to.

Wish the Player Union and Owners would think about the general public for once and get this contract done!

Is there any question that they'll retire it? Even if they don't, no one's ever gonna touch that number again in Baltimore. Besides, if they didn't retire #52, it'd be a slap in the face of Ray.

It may as well be retired, there can never be another 52 after what Ray has done here. I'll go ahead and say it, he's the greatest LB of all time and possibly the best defensive player overall ever. There's no way another Raven will ever wear #52

Personally I dislike retired numbers, as there are only so many to be worn. Ray Lewis deserves a spot on the Ring of Honor, no doubt about that WHAT-SO-EVER. However, I hope that Lewis's number won't be retired, especially since we'll almost definetly have a Ray Lewis III coming in here in a little less than a decade. Again, I think spots on the Ring and HOF will be good enough.

The Ravens are one of the youngest franchises in the league. As of right now, only Ray, J.O. and Ed are deserving of having their jerseys retired. Taking three numbers out of circulation won't cause a shortage.

As for Ray's son, I don't see how he'll "almost definitely" be a Raven. As talented as he is, there's no guarantee he reaches the pros or be playing defense if makes it either.

Ray's number should and will be retired.

1. They should retire #52
2. :landry: They should build a statue of him. Not sure about replacing Unitas though.
3. STOP TALKING ABOUT RAY RETIRING! ;-( I can't stand thinking about it. :34853_shakehead:

Even if we retire Ray's number and we draft his son, there is kind of a clause where jerseys can come out of retirement for sons/grandsons,etc.

JO and RL need statues.

Even though the Ravens have said the only Jersey to be retired is 57 (for OJ Brigance), we will change their minds. We will go on strike if we have to, I don't wanna see anyone where the number 52 for our team ever again.

Agreed, no matter how good that new MLB is he'd just disgrace the jersey. Its a lose lose scenario, your not good enough to wear #52, and Ill hate you forever if you attempt to wear it lol.

As much as I don't want to think about it, I know Ray is going to have to leave sometime, and it will be a day of mourning in Baltimore when he announces he is retiring. You will probably see me take a sick day from work the day after.

I'm with the folks who say that #52 should be retired, no one else could wear it as proudly as he has.

Do you think that the Ravens will retire the #52? I know it's done only in special cases but this is the guy who's been the face of the franchise for what seems like forever and he's in my mind the best ILB in the history of the league. You could argue a couple of other guys, but none have been pretty much at the top of the game for a decade and a half.

Opinions?

The Ravens will never be the same without Ray.
