And in a sense, this reminds me of Trent Dilfer in Tampa Bay, before he came to the Ravens. And the irony would be if Boller's season goes the way of Dilfer's Super Bowl-winning season, and he becomes just as popular as Dilfer did around these parts for it.

this makes alot of sense, but i think like Dilfer left Tampa, Boller has to leave Baltimore

I said previously, I think Boller can be solid starter somewhere, just not here...

Anyways, if Kyle did manage to win a ring I think he could end up like an Eli. He was the media darlin' all through the postseason, when his play improved. Actually, if you look at it Eli and Kyle had/have very similar situations. Eli had a shaky standing in New York before his postseason run. Kyle still has a shaky stand here. But if, and this is a BIG "if", he can do something miraculous, I wouldn't be surprised to see some bandwagons parked outside of his camp.

Why not? If he can be a solid starter, why not here? I hope whoever is the starting QB for the Ravens is a solid starter.

If Boller wins the super bowl it wont be because of him. When Dilfer won the Raven's defense and special teams was winning games. So unless Boller actually does something productive and consistant then my mind wont change of him. I will hate him. But for the record i think that the ravens organization should formally apologize to Dilfer for thinking he was replaceable and not resigning him.

Trent Dilfer was replaceable.

Cuz he HAS to know and be somewhat affected by his current standing in Baltimore...

I just honestly believe he needs to go somewhere else to almost re-create himself. And have the opportunity of being in a stadium where damn near half the people there seriously dont want him there...Look at what we did the Elvis Grbac, one year removed from a ProBowl season we sent Elvis off the field in TEARS and he ended up retiring, Baltimore is a rough city to play in if you're not performing well.

I kinda feel for the guy, but look, he's had his 'chance' here

can we at least agree, that this season is more than likely the last opportunity hes going to get here? We only gave him a 1 year extension (if im not mistaken) So thats even more pressure hes under. He HAS to do well this year. Or else, next year we wont even be having this convo.

Brian Billick apologized to him in private last year, before the game against the 49ers was played.

Dilfer has already publicly said that they buried the hatchet and he forgives him for making the decision to part ways.

who cares who does it or how we do it? as long as we do it right?

In essence that's how I feel. I'm not a big Smith supporter but if he gets the job done then so be it. I think with any of our 3 QBs if they do well and we win we would potentially be in a place where we could repeat and have long term success. Obviously if that QB played well and became consistent.

Im sticking to my guns here...No, No, NO

and its funny how some of you say "this is an example of how ignorant fans can be"

haha, so someone disagrees with how you feel so you call them ignorant???

look, its obvious Boller has some support in Baltimore, but he has PERSONALLY let ALOT of us down!!!!

He looks terrified in the pocket and exhibits almost NO POISE AT ALL.

I respect you for sticking to your guns but what I don't get is why Boller catches flak for WRs dropping passes on him as well. I do think he needs to calm down and get his feet under him which he seemed to start showing at the end of the season before we got Mcnair. Then we get Mcnair and Boller goes from being the #1 to being a good team guy and helps Mcnair learn the playbook as quick as possible. Wouldn't that negate some of your "let us down" when he's shown he is a team player and wants to help the team win any way he can?

I think you have a very valid point when you say that Kyle Boller has done nothing personally to any fan because of his mistakes that let down the team.

On the same token, I can see what wun22 is saying, even though I don't agree with it. I understand the feeling of disappointment from the team, but I don't take it personally, even though I invest time, money, and emotions in the Ravens like you do.

However, guys, let's try to keep the thread on-topic -- it was starting to get pretty good.

I think alot of the issues is that we want that 3500 passing yard guy which is why Dilfer was never resigned and we went after Elvis Grbac after winning the SB. Elvis had a great year in KC before we picked him up and it really seemed like the best move at the time needless to say the reason why we've failed over the years isn't all on the QBs who have been with is. We have lacked playmakers at the WR position and Jamal's production peaked with the 2k season then went down hill quickly. We failed as an entire offense and not just at the QB position.

I guess he wasnt that replaceable if we didnt win another ring. Dilfer wasnt the best quarterback but he fit the system. And sometimes thats all you need. And i forgot Billick apologized to Dilfer but i wish we didnt have to learn from our mistakes on that one.

Looking at all his stats, it shows he is a decent QB with troubling desicion making (45 TD's to 44 INT's). If there will be any season to define his career its this one. Sadly for him, this season his toughest competition is from within. Even if we wins the trianing camp battle and starts the sseason, he will constantly have to look over his shoulder after every bad pass. They key for Kyle this year is to just play smart, it might be a contract year, but he can't force big time plays. Do what McNair was able to do in 2006 and just play mistake free football.

If a linebacker was high effort but couldnt tackle would he be in the NFL?

I really wish he could play well but after five years its unlikely that his nerves are ever going to dissapear, he never even had to worry about his blind side.

I have never seen this many people so enthused to have Kyle Boller as the starter. How much is he paying you? I mean really, BOLLER? People actually love BOLLER? I knew the government was putting something in the water but I didn't realize it was this serious. I think the BOLLER crush phenomenon will be short lived once BOLLER throws and interception with his goofy throwing motion and/or falls over his own feet and/or fumbles the ball in the endzone and/or somehow manages to do all 3 at the same time(which only boller can do).

I know time heals all wounds but Boller has left some pretty deep scars that will never heal for me. I supported Kyle full heartily up until 2006. I mean I sat amongst steeler vermin and defended Boller till i was blue in the face, but after 05'...I couldn't do it anymore.

It baffles me how many people want to give Boller another chance like 5 full years of chances wasn't enough. I don't know if these people are die-hard fans or just stuck on stupid but I for one HATE BOLLER!!

A 76.6 QB rating fit the system? 136.5 yds/game fit the system? 8 fumbles fit the system? 11 interceptions fit the system? Mind you, he only started 8 games.

Why does everyone miss Dilfer so much? He wasn't that good.

Its amazing that you all hate him so much that even if won the Superbowl and showed that he could be one of the top QB's in the league you all would still kick him out of town it just shows how stupid the fans can be sometimes. If If If If If Boller wins us a superbowl this season which mean that he carried the team through games that they shouldn't have won threw the injuries that will come this season and so on HE STAYS. We franchise him give him another chance to prove its not a fluke and then we make a decision because Flacco's contract will be one of the cheapest backup contracts if he doesn't play since his contract is full of performance clauses.

First i agree with ravensIQ hell will freeze over if Boiler wins a ring, bazard, maybe, just maybe we expect a million dollar baby to produce? Maybe just , maybe we expect a Baltimore QB to give it all he has, you know like Troy Smith has shown last year! how many more games do we have to watch where we loss because your man loses his nerves and throws a wild pass or an interceotion in the end zone! This game is against new england you know the team that cheated baltimore last year, IT"S PAY BACK TIME! and the last time i checked Baltimore dose not use a wet noodle in a pay back! how long must we suffer untill you realise that " Three Steps Back and Sacked Kyle" is not a Baltimore QB? he just another pretty face!

I have never seen this many people so enthused to have Kyle Boller as the starter.

Most of that enthusiasm is in reference to what would happen if Boller won the Super Bowl as a starter -- in other words, the actual topic of the thread.

And from what I've seen from all of these responses, people are responding as I expected, and that's a good thing.

The fact that people would either be indifferent towards Boller or even accepting of him after winning a Super Bowl, shows that winning cures everything.

And that, my friends, was exactly the point.

It was the point in the case of Eli Manning and the Giants. It was the point in the case of Trent Dilfer and the Ravens.

And it will be the point in the case of WHOMEVER is the starting QB that leads the Ravens to the Super Bowl again.

I guess your creepy man crush on Boller won't allow you to see the TRUTH!

KYLE BOLLER is detrimental to every fan's health!!

If you haven't been filled with an insane amount of rage after watching 4 quarters of a kyle boller meltdown, to the point where you have to stop and ask yourself... "should I run Kyle Boller over with my truck for the better good of our football team??" then you will NEVER! understand my pain...

side note: If kyle Boller takes us to the superbowl and wins us a ring..i will be a very happy man, cuz that's the same day i sit on my toilet and **** out 3 golden eggs.

If Boller wins a ring, (playing for this team) I will finally be proven right with everyone I know....That is that Kyle played very well in college and transitioned to the NFL so badly do to very, very poor coaching..... Even though he has almost given me a few heart attacks in the past, during his aformentioned breakdowns... I feel very sorry for him and (what I feel to be) tons of waisted talent...

Your right Dilfer didnt put up good numbers but we won. No one expected him to be great anyway. That wasnt his job to put up great numbers. He was there not to blow games for his defense, and he did exactly that. He came out week after week and was consistant. And stats are deceiving. I love people that spit off numbers and act as if that proves everything. Its not like he had the best recievers to throw to. Not only that, it was his first year in the offense. And i dont really miss Dilfer, i'm just thankful he got the ravens to the super bowl.

Depends on the circumstances.

1. I dont think Boller is going to win the ring, the defense and running game will win it.

2. If Boller has a pro bowl type season I will be very upset with the front office for keeping Billick as long as we did because of his inability to develop QB's.

I will say this. I dont hate Boller right now and I dont love him. If he has a pro bowl type season and even gets us to the playoffs I will be very happy with him. If he wins the ring with a pro bowl type season then yes..I will have a man crush on him.

Hating on a player is the most distasteful thing for a fan to do. Kyle never asked for Billick to trade up for him and throw him to the dogs as a rookie trying to make it on a playoff caliber team. All Kyle Boller has done is give it his all and considering he had to carry the burden of the coaching staff and a porous O Line he's done well to stay upright. I actually admire his courage. I'm sure many of the Boller haters, if they would search their hearts, will find that they would like to have his courage.
