Great thread !!!

Fact of the matter is, is that Kyle Boller is a hated man in this town and for the most part it was because he was put in a bad system with no weapons outside of Heap, no line, and when the tools are finally in place they put him in the game when they are all injured. Put a solid offense around this guy and i guarantee that you will see a different quarterback. With a solid offense around Kyle he will at minimum be a solid Quarterback.

That about sums it up.

I too am a Boller fan. He has a hell of an arm and when things are right ( as with nearly any QB) he is dynomite.

If Kyle won a ring, I would have that "I told you so! " Look on my face. ( I wouldnt actually utter the words though)

if boller wins a ring all of these boller haters will finally jump the on the wagon like alot of football (so called fans) do anyway. you cant always get lucky and have a brett Favre, manning, montana, and aikman. it takes time people. no one here in baltimore likes to give anyone a chance and thats the problem. everyone wants a superbowl ring every year and thats not going to happen. true football fans know to stick it out with guys untill the right time. guys what guys the time is right and i hope that boller gets the ring thats been so so so hard to get. i'm still sticking with him just like i was sticking with jamal untill these so called fans also gave up on him so fast.

itd be better if troy does it..

also it depends on how he does it... as a back up? or a terrible passer being carried by the defense.

If he plays well good for him, i wouldnt be quick to love him so quick.

who cares who does it or how we do it? as long as we do it right?

It was implied that it'd be as the Ravens' starting QB.

But, your point was made, regardless.

whoops my bad

out of curiosity...how long do you (would you) wait as a true football fan? Boller is in his 6th year.

it's not just the fans. too much money is at stake for owners to wait. waiting can (and did) cost a coach his job as well.

speaking of chances, in all fairness, baltimore's coach never gave anyone a chance. i remember when we had Randall Cunningham. he came in for a game cuz our starter was hurt, and produced WAY better than the starter at the time. and what happens after we start doing good with Randall Cunningham. BAM. the starter gets better and we go back to the same ole same ole mediocre. I remember when we had a quarterback named Derrick Anderson who never got a chance. it's very frustrating when you see that your team could be in the playoffs countless times, and stupid coaching decisions get in the way. especially when you have a team where all you really need is 24 points to win the game cuz the defense is so good. 24 Points! that's it!

it's no secret i want Troy to start in the regular season, but i'm still going to cheer Boller on. and in Boller's defense, he went through a similar coaching change his senior year at california. a more talented coaching staff came on, and took Boller to another level. so maybe that was the problem here before we fired everybody. maybe the new (more talented) coaching staff is just what Boller needed.

i wouldn't jump on the Boller bandwagon if he got us a ring. i would just think "it's bout time".

i agree with ravensorioleshoyas522155 too. "who cares who does it or how we do it? as long as we do it ... right?"

Yeah, he was crap. He was so bad he couldn't even make the practice squad. Then, those sorry Browns picked him up. I don't know, maybe they thought they saw something good? Silly Browns, the jokes on you!

in one way im kinda glad boller gets the start only because i think he deserves a far shot for once. but i kinda thought with a new head coach and a whole new offense they would jump in a different direction like troy smith . i personly dont care who they start i dont think harbaugh or cam cameron are going to mess this up.

(Not just directed towards you)

Keep in mind, people, that this is a hypothetical thread.

This is NOT about who will be the starting QB for the Ravens in Week 1, nor who will have the most success as the starter.

Let's try to stay focused on the question at hand, and not whether Boller will succeed in Cam Cameron's offense, nor whether Boller deserves a shot over Troy Smith, etc.

I would probably be pretty ******* happy if boller did well and won the S B, I won't lie, I just don't see Boller keeping his head out the dirt.

ok wouldnt it be more like... "would you be happy if Kyle Boller didnt cost our D the Superbowl?"

Well, I can see you're not a Boller fan...

I'd also ask you to try to answer the question objectively, but I guess you already made your point about how you'd feel about him if he won a Super Bowl as the starter for this team.

My question is, if Kyle Boller does the same and brings home another Lombardi Trophy, will we hold him in the same regard as Dilfer?
Let's try to stay focused on the question at hand

lol... right!...

yeah...i think baltimore will embrace him.

kyle boller jerseys will fly off the shelf, and he will instantly become a sex symbol. *gag*

there will be a lot of "i told you so's" and a lot of people who will change their story stating they

never said he was a bad quarterback.

a lot of baltimore baby mommas are going to name

their newborn son Kyle and gas prices will go down too.

What has Boller done for us? Im a realist he extinguished my faith in him long ago.

Hey if he wins us a Superbowl or even leads us through a respectable season I will be the first to say I got it wrong.

What he said.

I'm not personally mad at Kyle for what has happened here.

He hasn't had the greatest of situations to thrive here in Baltimore...

Suspect WRs, shotty O-Line, Billick's system, etc, etc...

I do want to see what Troy can do though...

First, I'll answer the question. Yes, I would love Boller if he brought a ring back to Baltimore. Heck, I'd love any quarterback that did that.

Second, I was looking into Boller's career, and I actually was amazed. Don't get me wrong. I have been a big Smith fan, but after doing some research, I think that Baltimore may have overlooked Boller, if that's possible. Let me explain by going over Boller's seasons with the Ravens via Wikipedia. I think that looking at the facts help to maintain objectivity. Many times, we remember things different then they actually happened (a symptom of being a fan, I think).

2003

Boller became the Ravens' first round draft pick in 2003 NFL Draft (19th overall pick). He was the second quarterback selected from the Pac-10 conference after the Cincinnati Bengals selected Carson Palmer from USC with the first overall pick. He started the first 9 games of the season, going 5-3, before being injured (thigh) in a game against the St. Louis Rams. He was inactive for most of the rest of the season, being replaced by backup Anthony Wright, as he also had to have surgery to repair a muscle in his quadriceps. Boller rushed 30 times for 62 yards, and completed 116 of 224 passes for 1,260 yards with 7 TDs and 9 INTs. Before his injury, he was showing improvements on a game to game basis.

Note: Boller was injured most of the year, but when he did play, he went 5-3. Anthony Wright finished the year also going 5-3. Baltimore was disappointed with the injury, but happy with a playoff appearance. The season record stood at 10-6.

2004

Boller started all 16 games in 2004, He set career highs, completing 258-of-464 (55.6%) for 2,559 yards with 13 TDs and 11 INTs. He also rushed 53 times for 189 yards and his 1st-career rushing TD. He had 4 games with QB ratings over 100, including a career-high 112.3 rating while going 18-of-34 for 219 yards, with a career-high 4 TDs and 0 INTs against the Giants. He once again showed improvement, and was starting to settle into his role as a starting QB in the NFL.

Note: A good season. It's not 4000 yards, but it worked in Baltimore. However, Baltimore was AGAIN disappointed since the team missed the playoffs. The season record stood at 9-7.

2005

It would seem that 2005 will be remembered as nothing more than the season that "could have been". Despite not making the playoffs the previous year, The Baltimore Ravens were seen by the NFL and the sports media as being contenders for the Super Bowl, resulting in four primetime games, two Sunday night games, and two spots featured on Monday Night Football. A factor in this was Boller's perceived status of "coming into his own", and so the Ravens were poised to start what would be a great season by taking on the Indianapolis Colts on the first primetime Sunday Night game of the season. The Ravens held their own in the first half, limiting the Colts to only 3 points, and Boller looked solid in the pocket, leading the offense down the field to the red zone several times. But it didn't last, as Boller was injured in the third quarter, suffering a bad case of "turf toe", that would wind up keeping him out of action for 7 games. The Ravens season went downhill after that, even going four games without a single passing TD. However, despite this, he still finished 2005 completing a career-high 58.4% of his passes (171-of-293) for 1,799 yards with 11 TDs and 12 INTs despite missing almost 8 games due to injury. After posting an 8.0 QB rating (4-of-12 [33%] for 37 yards and 1 INT) in the 1st half, Boller exploded in the 2nd half, going 14-of-20 [70%] for 174 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT for a 115.4 QB rating in the final 2 quarters against the Bengals. In back to back games, he (and the entire team) finally seemed to come alive and show the promise everyone had been expecting, as he completed 19-of-27 passes (70.4%) for 253 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs for a career-high 136.8 QB rating in the 48-3 victory in game 14 vs. Green Bay. Then against Minnesota, he posted a career-high 70.6 completion percentage (24-of-34) for 289 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT for a 113.5 QB rating. With these performances, he became the 1st QB in franchise history to post 110+ QB rating in consecutive games.

Note: Here it is. This is the season that ruined Boller's career. It's obvious that he had a bad start, but he actually turned it around at the end. It goes without saying that Baltimore was disappointed. The team finished 6-10, and the whole city seemed to blame Boller.

It seems to me that Boller was "coming into his own" during the 2005 season. The injury seriously hurt his development, but he continued to progress after it. McNair was signed after the 2005 season, and Boller would become a backup.

In short, Boller has had his moments, good and bad. However, I think that the insane level of expectancy may have contributed to his bad reputation. Baltimore was expecting John Elway. I definitely do not think that Boller is Elway, but he may actually be a good quarterback. I can't believe that I'm saying this, but after looking at it, I have to wonder. In all reality, he played well in the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He had a rough start to the 2005 season, but he finished strong.

My question is this: Is Boller a good QB after all?

This poses a very interesting question. At first I thought I would still be indifferent to the guy, but then I got to thinking. For the last six years I have boo-ed Boller more times then he probably deserves and chastized him as an outcast on this team. Then I got to thinking, if this kid was to lead us to a Super Bowl what would I do?... I would still be indifferent not becuase I already hate the guy, but becuase I like having him around. Hes grown on me to the point where I love to hate him, but all the while still hoping his next performance will be Favre/Manning.Brady/-esque. I've seen him gunsling against all three of those guys and do it well, then I've seen him make Grbac look like a Pro-Bowler. Truth be told, if he brought home a ring, not much would change, I'd still love having him on the Ravens.

I'd love to see the fan-boys come out of hiding.

"I knew he had it in him all along" "Oh, Kyle, I never doubted you!"

That kind of BS from people who wanted him gone. I, personally, have never been too critical of Boller. I've seen his great potential and always root for him, even if it's hard sometimes. He had a rough start to his NFL career and I think some of that is still with him today.

Honestly, if this scenario does happen it may be something like Eli Manning this year. He was almost booted out of New York by the fans because of his inconsistent play; but when they won it, it was Eli all the way, baby.

Come on Boller, do an Eli... you owe us.

Im sticking to my guns here...No, No, NO

and its funny how some of you say "this is an example of how ignorant fans can be"

haha, so someone disagrees with how you feel so you call them ignorant???

look, its obvious Boller has some support in Baltimore, but he has PERSONALLY let ALOT of us down!!!!

He looks terrified in the pocket and exhibits almost NO POISE AT ALL.

I think Boller has it in him to be a starter, just not in Baltimore....He's had his chance. This is the NFL NOBODY wants to hear, "oh he got thrown to the wolves" THIS IS THE NFL. You sink or you swim, he's shown he can't succeed here. Let him go, maybe in another city, he can put this part of his life in the proper prospective and move forward and be the QB you all THINK he can be. Its just not gonna happen here.

If he did succeed here, it would have to be a huge ProBowl-esque type season to change my mind about him. Does this make me ignorant? I dont think so, Im just a fan, I love my team, and I've watched Boller squander too many golden opportunities to prove himself to allow anyone to say..."oh he was thrown to the wolves." I repeat, this is the NFL, every week is a wolf fight, bear fight, shark fight...its a fight...You get thrown to the wolves in this league, you better be damn ready.

Did he drop your wallet in a drain or something? Boller's done nothing personal to you.

Boller's problem isn't that he can't play, its that he will be "Joe First Round" most of the way down the field then choke or get picked in the red. His lack of consistency is why no one wants to see him start.

If he gets a ring he will finally have proved what we wanted all along a qb that keeps his head in the game and controls the ball.

Dec 9th 2007 Home- threw 3 picks....personal let down in a game we could have won against the Colts and its the COLTS yes that was personal to me and a entire stadium full of fans!!!

Nov 18th 07- Home Cleveland Browns 2 picks that cost us the game....

hell, even the Pats game (i blame that loss mostly on the HORRIBLE job done by the refs), But Boller threw a pick late in the 4th that game!!! who was he even throwing to??? Had that pick not been thrown we would of won that game despite the obvious bias the refs had towards the pats.

the list goes on and on and on and on....

He was personally responsible for losing those games....He makes some of the worst decisions I've EVER seena QB make in the pocket.

I'm a season ticket holder...Im tired of seeing Boller under center. Damn near everyone in my section is tired of seeing Boller under center...Its like beating a dead horse

Haha, the Colts game? Are you serious? I don't think Boller is responsible for the 4 TD passes Peyton Manning threw against us. I don't think he's responsible for a rookie WR burning our secondary.

Anyways, Football is a team sport and all I see is Kyle making mistakes that let down the team. Not you. Sorry you didn't get your money's worth when you went to see the games. Sorry the TEAM went 5-11. But there's no personal damage to you, so stop saying there is.

I think you have a very valid point when you say that Kyle Boller has done nothing personally to any fan because of his mistakes that let down the team.

On the same token, I can see what wun22 is saying, even though I don't agree with it. I understand the feeling of disappointment from the team, but I don't take it personally, even though I invest time, money, and emotions in the Ravens like you do.

However, guys, let's try to keep the thread on-topic -- it was starting to get pretty good.

yeah, the colts game was HIS fault the first 2 picks came on back to back drives, keeping our D on the field, and in the 2nd half he throws another pick and fumbles...

the guy is all over the place...

flat out, Kyle Boller sucks...

and this is why i said

Well, the thread isn't about praising Boller or crossing fingers, hoping for a miracle from him.

It's more about how people might react IF he were to pull an Eli and change peoples' minds.

Eli Manning's career turnaround was one of the bigger inspirations for the thread, as well as the polarizing figure that Boller is in this city.

No player in Ravens' history has ever had the fanbase this split before in terms of his popularity.

And in a sense, this reminds me of Trent Dilfer in Tampa Bay, before he came to the Ravens. And the irony would be if Boller's season goes the way of Dilfer's Super Bowl-winning season, and he becomes just as popular as Dilfer did around these parts for it.

its just the type of guy i am...I've been a season ticket holder since day 1 @ memorial stadium. I went to the SuperBowl, I go to most of the functions..I am a huge fan, when the Ravens lose my day is ruined, and i tend to look to point fingers, and more often than not, that finger lands on Boller...

Would I lighten my stance if he brought us home a ring? maybe, but HE would have to win it, not NOT lose it, but actually win it
