Working On Fiction

6 posts in this topic

Back in 2007, when my last attempt at radio, which was in college, didn't fare too well, I came back to Clinton, Tennessee, with the idea to try my chances as a writer. Since then, I have come up with a load of story ideas, and have begun to work on some of them.

Last night, I finished working on a story of fiction, a story of a "war of words" between two college students - one who has a talk show on the campus radio station, the other with a column in the campus newspaper. I have already begun to type and print the story over at the library, at a cost of twenty cents per page, with the intent of making a copy of the story, sending in for copyright, and then - hopefully, having the story published.

I intend to work on more story ideas as time goes on, in the hope to make something of myself. I'll admit that I have no illusions of being James Thurber, but I wish to make something of this chance at life.

I would like to hear from all of you in this regard - if you have any hints on where I should go from here, I would appreciate hearing from you. I thank you.

I enjoy writing and reading a lot, and I am currently working on a short story for AP English. A book that immensely helped me was Stephin King's On Writing. He gives some really good tips on how to avoid rookie mistakes and even helps out on ways to how to get published. I definitely recommend on reading it.

As of late, a friend of mine brought to my attention the annual opportunity known as National Novel Writing Month, which takes place every November. Last night I sent a message to the people behind NaNoWriMo, asking about software and copyright on my work.

I was informed that I wouldn't have to download software, but in regard to copyright, well, that's what gets me. There is no copyright claim, but at the end of the competition, all of the works will be dumped from their files, although there has been some talk that if I reach their standard of 50,000 words for the month, a manuscript will be made available and I may try to offer it to amazon.com.

I will keep all of you posted. Thank you.

I've always toyed with writing. Back in high school (and a little bit in middle school), I used to sit down and write short stories. As of late, I've meant to sit down and try to pen something that I might be able to eventually publish one day, I just never have the motivation lately. It's the same story with my stand-up, I've wrote so many jokes, but usually late at night when I don't feel like getting up to write them down. You know.... I should really try to get the motivation to actually do these things.

Go ahead and give it your best shot, Awaken - who knows what will come of this.

This is my intention as far as my writing - to take my best shot, and to give this chance a full opportunity.
