Player You'd Want Most As A Raven?

20 posts in this topic

Here's an idea I had, inspired by all the speculation about Brett Favre becoming a Raven on this board.

If you could have ANY player RIGHT NOW as a Raven, regardless of team need or cap figures or any real-world restrictions, who would you take?

The only stipulation is, players would be acquired as-is; that includes any injuries from last season and their current age. This also excludes players not in the league and current Ravens (obviously).

Keep in mind, this doesn't mean you should necessarily pick the "best" player in the league -- this is moreso your own personal preference as to who you would've liked to have seen in a Ravens uniform this upcoming season.

For me, it'd be Patrick Willis (LB, 49ers).

I followed him briefly at the tail end of his career at Ole Miss, and ever since I first saw him play, I thought of him as the next Ray Lewis. After an impressive series of pre-draft evaluations, he didn't disappoint after being taken 11th overall by the 49ers, posting a league-leading 174 tackles on his way to becoming the Defensive Rookie of the Year and a rookie Pro Bowl selection, as well as a rookie All-Pro selection.

I love watching the kid play, and he reminds me of why I love defensive football.

Going with an obvious route, quarterback, I would like to see if Carson Palmer's style would mesh with the Ravens' offense. Not sure if it would work, but it is something I've thought about a few times.

I'll say:

Joe Thomas (OT, Browns)

Although he is not a JO (yet), he is a franchise OT.

We are in desperate need for that franchise OT to anchor our line and be the leader for the next 5-10 years.

Gonna miss you JO... :(

I'd bring Deion Sanders back onto the Ravens from the commentator's chair for the sole purpose of him making me great hot dogs.

How about Ladanian Tomlinson. I heard Marcus Mcnaiel in an interview say that sometimes, LT runs through holes that aren't really there and makes Mcneill look better than he is. I'd like to see if Jared Gaither went to the pro bowl if we had LT. :D

manning is better than brady

We could have this conversation all day, back-and-forth, and it'd be like splitting the finest of hairs.

Let's put it like this -- we're all lucky to be watching these two all-time greats play at the same time (in the same era as Brett Favre, no less), and we'd all be happy to have a QB of the caliber of both players on our team.

who has more superbowl rings? Dont give me "manning is on a worse team than brady". Brady hasnt had a reciever his hole career. Manning has 2 of the best recievers. Good running backs and good o line all the time. Anyways im not going to argue this because it is a bit off subject.

Manning O-line is NO way near as good as Brady's. Last year i only saw brady get sacked like 5 times. Brady is also a

cheater
. Which degrades his quality as a QB in many ways

Even if he had "help" out on the field, Brady still has to make those throws. He still has to perform.

Yes, there's a slight competitive edge given to any offense that can decipher defensive signals, but there's only so much time to process that information. And the majority of that information, wouldn't be helpful until the second meeting between teams.

Keep in mind, those signals weren't being delivered to Belichick in-game -- the videotapes were deciphered AFTER each game. And most teams switch up their signals anyway...well, the smart ones do. ;)

Both of them were sacked exactly 21 times..How is Brady a cheater?????Im pretty sure he had no knowledge of Bellicheck doing that. Which by the way every team does, maybe not videoing but payin someone to sit in the stands and write it down is not much different

Good point franchise, Yes he is a good QB and can make the throws but i believe that the tapes helped him out ALOT.

I always wondered if we had T.O like we thought we did, how far he would take this team. the numbers don't lie, he's made virtually all of his QB's into pro bowlers, and he's excelled in various types of offenses. but i'd still take Randy Moss over him, because I still think he's the most gifted receiver ever.

I think Chad is the best in the nfl atm

T.O is better than Chad, because he can beat you deep or take a screen and break 3 tackles and take it to the house. He is a great receiver, no matter how much he sucks at being a decent human being. Chad is good at getting open, but T.O. doesn't even need to be open (but is still great at getting open), you know? That's the difference.

Back on topic though; I was really disappointed to hear 3 divisional foes in the first 5 people named, but whatever. They all suck. I'd take DeMarcus Ware. He is the most versatile and deadly defender in the game right now. He doesn't miss tackles, he doesn't blow assignments, he kills people when he gets his hands on them and he wants to get better, he has a great attitude/work ethic. He would be Rex's favorite new toy, believe it :)
