ESPN is reporting that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has in fact re-instated Favre into the NFL, though the League office has not yet confirmed the report. this is right here, marks the end of this seemingly never ending saga of "Favre vs the Packers" and it seems now that Favre is reinstated, he now can report to Packers Training Camp, and the Packers have to make a decision within the next 48 hours on whether to Keep or release him.

further information will be given as it comes available in this developing story.

Foxsports is currently reporting that the NFL is set to Reinstate Favre later on today, but it reportedly wont take or come into effect until monday.

Once Favre has arrived at Green Bay training camp, sources close to the situation in Green Bay told foxsports.com the team will ramp up efforts to trade him. In addition, once he is a member of the team and officially reports, he will no longer have the right to veto any trade.

this just in from NFL.com, the Green Bay Packers have indeed, made arrangments to Welcome Favre back with open arms. Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy later released a statement Sunday announcing Favre's return and welcoming him back with open arms.

"Sixteen years after Brett Favre came to the Packers, he is returning for a 17th season," Murphy said in the statement. "He has had a great career with our organization and although we built this year around the assumption that Brett meant what he said about retiring, Brett is coming back. We will welcome him back and turn this situation to our advantage."

only seems fitting for his legacy to continue on as a member of the Green Bay Packer Family, and to send him elsewhere would just be out right wrong because of how much he put forth for the same organization for the last 16 years, America's Boy is back and looking forward with a new outlook on the continuation of his NFL Career. and what a Fitting ending for such a phenominal, Legendary Player of Brett Favre. i dont know about the rest of you out there but i was happy to hear this news, sure there were a few bumps in the road, but in the end, Favre is and forever will be, a Green Bay Packer.

Although I still feel he should've stayed retired, Brett Favre returning to the NFL as a Green Bay Packer is certainly better than taking the Montana/Namath/insert-your-legendary-QB-ending-his-career-with-a-different-team-here route.

I hope his skills aren't too diminished, and I hope he's open to any possibility this season, as it's likely that this has now turned into a QB competition in Green Bay between himself and Aaron Rodgers. The Packers would be smart to keep their options open at this point and NOT assume that Favre will return to his 2007 form.

For Favre's sake, though, I hope he's able to replicate last year's success, even if it means giving credence to those who wanted him in a Ravens uniform.

Brett Favre is one of my favorite QBs, and I'd hate to see him end his career on a sour note, as Steve McNair did. In my opinion, it was far more fitting for #4 to have ended his career in the NFC Championship game, at Lambeau Field, to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, on a last-minute interception to seal the game, after having had one of the best statistical seasons of his career, and having tied a franchise-best 13-3 record.

[EDIT]- The NFL Network's Adam Schefter just confirmed my suspicion that the Packers will hold an open competition at QB between Favre and Rodgers, on NBC's Sunday Night Football telecast at the Hall of Fame game.

The Packers will likely follow up with a formal statement tonight or tomorrow morning.

The Packers say there will now be an "open competition" for the QB position... yeah, about as "open" a competition as there is between Ed Reed and Tom Zbikowski to see who starts at Free Safety
