Anyone Play Fantasy Baseball?

14 posts in this topic

I've never played fantasy baseball before, but I was thinking of trying it out this year.

If there is enuff interest I'll start up a league.

I have tried it, but I couldn't figure out how to go about it correctly. I mean it seems you could just draft the top Baseball players and you have a shot at your Fantasy Championship. The only thing I do for the Spring is March Madness and filling out a Bracket for the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

I've been playing it for around 3 years now and have enjoyed it. With the natural ebb and flow of the game, you're always going to be checking the wire, unless you're in a small league. Stashing minor league prospects is fun too.

I think we would probably need at least 10 ppl, so hopefully this can generate some more interest.

Anyone have preferences on what type of league? Head to head or roto? Mixed or AL/NL only?

Epic bump but I didn't really feel like creating a new topic about this.

Now that the fantasy baseball season is over, how did everyone do on their respective leagues?

I finished 3rd in a public 12-team H2H league (50 moves max) league and I'm pretty darn proud about it considering 4 out of my top 5 picks were hit with the injury bug. First, it was Hanley Ramirez who hurt my team big-time with all the trips to the DL and the horrible stats when he was playing. Then, it was Wainwright's turn who went out for the year before even Spring Training began and Zimmerman's who missed 3-4 months because of injury.. I picked Uggla in the fourth round who never really got going until late in the year when he had that stellar hitting streak and Buchholz in the fifth who made 1-2 starts (something like a 9.00 ERA) before going down for the year.

I was happy with who I picked in the later rounds though.. C.J. Wilson in the 14th round (166th overall), James Shields in the 15th round (171st overall) and the steal of the draft, Ian Kennedy in the 22nd round (262nd overall, third to last) among other§.

Sooo yeah.. how did you do?

I had an amazing season. Although I've played fantasy baseball for a number of years, this year was the first time I actually won a competitive league. It was a 16-team, H2H league with 13 categories.

Looking back, I did really well drafting David Wright, Matt Kemp, Brandon Phillips, Adrian Beltre, Zack Greinke, Francisco Liriano, Dan Haren, Aaron Hill, Jose Tabata and Gio Gonzalez in the first 10 rounds. I was also able to get Asdrubal Cabrera in the 16th, Desmond Jennings in the 19th and Melky Cabrera in the 30th(last round).

Jemile Weeks, Javy Guerra and Mark Melancon were probably my three best waiver pick-ups.

I opened the year with a four-week winning streak, alternated wins and losses for six weeks, had a four-week losing streak, and then alternated wins and losses again for the remaining seven weeks. The final week was really dramatic as I was in 7th place and playing the guy in 6th for the final play-off spot. I smashed him 12-1.

I narrowly beat out the 3rd seed 7-6 in the quarter-finals, smacked the 2nd seed 10-3 in the semis and then beat the 4th seed 9-4 in the finals. The Final was pretty sweet because my team put up more homers than they had all year long, 19.

Niiice! To me, fantasy baseball is probably the most challenging of all fantasy games because of stats like AVG, ERA, WHIP where you need to play against the odds at times and start a guy you wouldn't normally start if you find yourself chasing or bench a quality starter if the time allows it.

I know not many people are interested in baseball (in part because of the O's) but we should have a BR.com league next year!

Agreed. Not only do you have take into average-based stats, you can't be as trigger-happy when it comes to adding and dropping players.

I'd love to be part of a BR.com baseball league next year.
