Ravens Tender Sergio Kindle

21 posts in this topic

Don't think this was posted before and its not surprising either.

Ravens tendered exclusive rights free agent LB Sergio Kindle.
The ERFA tender is the minimum salary for two-year players like Kindle, so the Ravens had nothing to lose by retaining him. Still recovering from a fractured skull, Kindle will have to show major progress to be a 2011 contributor.

so how does this tender work? can someone else sign him and if they do do we get anything?
[/quote]

"Exclusive Rights" meaning he has to sign here. Here or nothing.

That's good to hear.

I can imagine there'd be a queue of teams willing to try and get him on board. Like BLT said, it's low risk, high reward.

^ zing.

I'm glad he's staying. Hope he's able to tear it up this year with Suggs and (insert rookie pass rusher here).

So IF Kindle is medically cleared...he would essentially have a rookie season with us next year. So in the event he is on the depth chart, i still wouldn't have any high hopes because he will definitely be playing behind our iron man JJ. I can't ever argue with the Sergio Kindle pick in the 2nd round, that was unbelievable value... but I went into that draft saying Kindle was one of the most overrated LBs in that draft (because he was ranked in the top 20 by many), i was pretty sure he would be a bust, i would've even loved jerry hughes over him. And Kindle will definitely need a year or two of playing time to actually learn how to drop back and cover so i think he will be long project. I wouldn't mind if we picked a high prospect OLB should one drop to us at 26... i mean u never kno, michael oher fell out of the top 10 to us once....

Pass-rushers can still make an impact as situational players. Terrell Suggs racked up 12 sacks and a DROY award playing behind Adalius Thomas and Peter Boulware.

It may take him that long to become good at that part of the game but with his natural skills, I wouldn't label him a project.

Kindle won't even need to step in and be a 3 down player with JJ being in front of him. Kindle just needs to rush the passer until he learns how to drop into a zone and figure out passing lanes. It wont take until he's 26 for him to be effective.

Thomas' 11 starts that year would say differently

I think this is a good sign... perhaps the Raven's doctors feel his prognosis is good and said the same to Ozzie and Co.? No real risk here either.

Because our pass rush is the worst its ever been in Franchise history and its hard to sure kindle will amount to anything with so many red flags. Also we still dont even have any depth at the olb position.

I'll agree that there's almost no depth on the outside. Hell, we've had Prescott Burgess and Edgar Jones are our back-ups the past few seasons. There's two ways that can be addressed this offseason, drafting an inside linebacker and moving McClain back to the outside where his natural position lies or (and this one is easy) drafting an outside linebacker. Regardless of how it's done, we definitely need outside linebacker depth, and with Baltimore apparently being high on hybrid pass rushers this offseason that need will most likely be taken care of.

Good to see, hopefully he can get cleared soon. That said, I fully advocate drafting Justin Houston in the first if he lasts til #26...
