Lockout Could Affect Team Websites

9 posts in this topic

As has been quietly speculated, the impending NFL work stoppage could have ramifications on the websites of all 32 NFL teams, including BaltimoreRavens.com. (LINK)

There is no official word yet on the effects that a work stoppage would have, but details could be released soon. Until then, comments on the state of BaltimoreRavens.com are pure conjecture in the meantime. From my personal understanding and speculation, the biggest impact would be made on editorial content and media; there would be minimal, if any, effect on the message boards.

Like I said, I don't think there'll be a closure of the board. However, with a projected decrease in advertising revenue during the work stoppage, I can't say with any certainty what'd happen to the main site. I wouldn't worry too much, though. This thread was more to make everyone aware of the possibility that there COULD be less editorial content than usual in the coming months due to the labor strife.

What editorial content?
Blogs are just people making opinions known; there is little 'editor' commentary
and an editorial on the website. Msg boards are totally diffent things, they can pop up
anywhere
One thing, if there is a workstoppage/lockout, the annual Ravens cruise should be full of
players and probably overbooked.
Oh wait, they won't be getting any paychecks so they may be unable to pay for it.

The website has more than just blogs; there's news pieces published on a frequent enough basis that also get heavy volume on the website.

Can anyone design up a forum in the case this happens?

I already have one that I play with to learn programming--a MB I posted on for years went belly up and everyone that plays fantasy sports needed a place to hang its not hard to do at all. Also the independent MB's like Scout, Sunspot and 24/7 are not affected.
