Mathias Kiwanuka's Neck Injury To Affect The Rest Of His Career?

5 posts in this topic

I was reading a combine article written up by John Clayton on Espn.com. I routinely find Clayton a good source of info (maybe not to the point of Adam Schefter, but still reputable) on football news. I got to the last statement, "And now for the bad news", and to my disdain, I found that NY Giants GM Jerry Reese said that it is possible that Kiwanuka may never play the game again due to a neck injury. I'm saddened by this news because, like the team or not, Kiwanuka is blessed by God to have abilities to rush a passer and is still young at 27 years old.

Is this legit?? Or is it just Reese trying to make teams weary of trying to sign Kiwanuka if he becomes an open F.A.???? I hope its the latter, but I could also see Mathias never playing again if his neck injury truly is a concern.

With any neck injury, there is always the risk of it being career-ending. This isn't Jerry Reese spreading misinformation in preventing his player from leaving, as that'd be bad business. Intentionally spreading misinformation to make other teams wary would do nothing to keep Kiwanuka in NY; after all, if you were a player, would you really want to re-sign with a team that tried to lower your market value by lying about the extent of your injury?

I believe that, while the injury is serious, it could heal properly if the treatment and rehab goes well. It's all about time, no matter the type of procedure that was performed (if any) to fix the disc.

"The consensus of all of the spine physicians and Dr. [Russ] Warren is that it is safe for Mathias to return to play," Reese stated.

He was just cleared to play yesterday. Sounds like he should be fine.
