D. Reed

I like David Reed. I think he has potential, but with Housh and Stallworth likely gone, and Mason retiring as soon as next year, we will be in need of more than just David Reed. Now is the time to draft a receiver, so that he will be able to get a year under his belt before his role increases after Mason retires.

I think we will see DReed involved in the offense alot more. Hes not exactly a burner, but he does have good enough speed. Although to me i see him as a playmaker. He reads his blocks and seams very well, as we all saw on the kick return and the 80 yarder before that. I see him as a nice slot receiver in that 3rd spot on certain packages. He has good hands, route running ability. It will be interesting to see how he progresses this offseason and if he can beat the injury bug.

Cut Housh, bring back Donte!!

Unfortunately it doesn't matter what type of receiver David Reed could be, Cam Cameron will put 2 WRs on the field 90% of the time with Ray Rice essentially taking the role of the slot receiver...if not the #1 receiver. If there is any increase in use of receiver I expect Ed Dickson to be that guy while we increase 2 TEs sets although i like Pitta a lot more because of his amazing hands. With Derrick Mason confirming his return for next season, any 3rd receiver won't have much of a role in this offense. If we draft a WR, it will be to replace Derrick Mason to take over than #2 role when Mason retires.

I like Reed, but he's probably going to end up like every other WR we've drafted.
I'd agree with this but two things about Reed separate him from the WRs we've had in the past that didnt work out (that I can remember) is Reed is extremely tough as a WR and he's never going to be expected to take on anything more than a #3 role. Now if he exceeds those expectations obviously he'd take a bigger role.

That didn't happen this past season. I'm not sure why it would next season.

I see Reed's role increasing next season but it probably won't increase substantially until 2012 when Mason will be gone.

It makes me feel good to kno im not the only one with high hopes for this kid. After all the let downs in the past at the WR position hopefully he will come thru for us.

I like Reed plenty. Just haven't really seen him play receiver, minus preseason last year.
Torry Smith doesn't impress me very much. He's got speed, but his catching mechanics seem to be not very adaptable for the NFL. That being said, anything could happen. Being a Maryland local, determination and hard work, and even a little magic could make this guy worth draftig if he falls to us.

David Reed will be a good player, juts like he was in college. He will be a very nice part of the offense, he has somewSteve Smith in him as he doesn't go down easy. But we need one more Wide Receiver in the 2nd. And I went to MD, Torrey Smith>>>>>DHB. But he's not the 26th, he's definitely worth a 52nd though.

i can agree if we can get him in the second then yes but we dont need a wr in the first round. we need to draft help on the defense or oline men even tho i heard this draft was deep with linemen talent.

Lets not forget about Justin Harper waiting in the wings and the possibility of Marcus Smith seeing some snaps at wideout. I think Reed has the best chance out of our young guys but if Harper comes to camp a complete player ie. He can catch everything thrown his way, he will be a starter
I don't see it at all. Justin Harper couldn't get on the field in 2008, 2009, or last year. I don't see him suddenly coming out of nowhere to make an impact.

I think D. Reed has the potential to be a playmaker for us, but he's got to straighten himself out off-the-field so the coaches can trust him with more responsibilities on it...

Plenty of pro athletes smoke bud and are highly productive. I would rather they pick up the bong than a prescription of oxi or vicodin ... that stuff is nasty

haha me too, I just don't want him getting in trouble with the law and getting suspended. What he does on his own time is up to him, as long as he stays in shape.

Does anyone know how fast D. Reed was at the combine? Just curious...
He ran around a 4.60 at the combine and around a 4.52 at his Pro Day... he's not a burner by any means, but is pretty explosive.

Just gotta give the kid a chance to play, we can't keep bringing in 32year old WRs to take away the 30 balls a season they grab that could be huge in a kid like David Reed's development. His kick return sold me on his toughness, whatd he bounce off of, 4 tackles? Love me some old school toughness.

Drugs are illegal... if an athlete is doing them they are a detriment to their team. They are putting themselves before the team, at the risk of jail, and suspensions. All pro athletes need to stay off the **** till they retire.

you have a good point... but here in colorado weed is medicine now. I really see what your saying about selfishness from a legal standpoint though. I guess if you get caught just do what Mello did and say it is your friends. Plus, i have seen first hand the selfishness addiction to prescription drugs can cause, and that goes far beyond any sort of legal ramifications.
