Injury Bug

68 posts in this topic

Hey guys and gals, have you seen the Ravens PUP List, etc.??? It is extensive and quite frightening considering we have just had our first practice(s) of Training Camp today (note: these injuries took place prior to Training Camp beginning):

The Ravens placed safety Ed Reed (undisclosed), receiver Demetrius Williams (lower left leg), tight end Daniel Wilcox (offseason toe surgery) and cornerback David Pittman (undisclosed) on the physically unable to perform list.

The team also designated cornerbacks Chris McAlister and Fabian Washington and fullback Le

Yeah, I just don't like seeing all these guys out.. especially considering what we went through last year with injuries. It's some other team's turn this year, we have suffered long enough.

I hope Demetrius Williams hasnt become another Dan Cody.

Unfortunately, it is starting to look that way.... except Williams has at least contributed somewhat in the regular season, albeit minimally.

Sometimes they put the vet guys on the PUP list who already know the system so they can bring in more players at training camp and try them out. Dont know if that is what they are doing here but i suspect it would be. Especially since alot of the starting dbacks are on the pup list.

Just a thought, they could really be injured

i think its nothing too too serious and something that fans and people in the Baltimore Football community shouldnt Take as a or consider to be a "Threat" on the injury front regarding the players out there right now, its still early on, most tranining Camps are just getting going and up and running, players and coaches are still getting to know each other and most are trying to work some of the rust off that had built up somewhat over the course of the Off-season.

there is still about another week or so before Tranining Camp Ends, and then afterwards, there are the 4 weeks of pre-season football, in which by that time most of if not all, the injuries or whatever that have taken effect to certain players right now, should be completely or just healed and therefore ready to go come week 1 of the regular season.

And let us not forget that with these injuries to certain players, it allows/opens up a ample opportunity for the other younger players on the team to step it up a notch or two and really show the staff and fellow teammates that they have what it takes to compete and they have what it takes to perform very very well out there on the football field, especially when the pressure is on and when leadership, guidence is needed.

having Players whom can step it up a notch, fill in for the empty vacancy, and perform not only good, but exceptionally well at that. and performing at a level in which they can excel greatly and have the coaches and staff, really get a not just a "good" look, but a "great" look at WHAT exactly this guy can bring this team, can this guy be the man come game day and can be handle the pressure of going out there and performing at a continual high standard of play. The only way you or anyone do that, is to practice practice practice.

I know that there will Days in which the players will struggle and cause a stir of doubt from fans, and people alike in the football community, but the trick of the trade is to look past those moments, and focus on the big Picture here (or anywhere for that matter). The Ability to Look past those mishaps and foresee what a player can bring to a team, is something that all coaches must do in times like training camp.

its a possibility, but i doubt that is in fact the reason, reason being simply because the Team/Ravens are not willing to give up vital Reps to one of their Star Starting Players, just to get a good look at rookie..devloping player whom is in the Transition, learning stages this being their Rookie season in the NFL. Zbikowski and Nakamura are getting or will get, their Reps in at every practice, whether it be with the First team squads or with the 2nd or 3rd team squads.

The Vital thing here is that they are getting Reps in, doesnt matter how or when, fact of the matter is that They are geting those reps, in which they are taking with stride and learning everyday they are out there practicing.

I don't like that full-contact drills at all, I mean it's OK if you practise tackling and all that stuff, but i think Harbaugh is carring it too far

I hope Demetrius Williams hasnt become another Dan Cody.

At current it will take Dan Cody 17 or 18 years to get the amount of snaps D Will has already taken.

I am praying Haloti was only carted off the field because of his sheer size and nothing more... I wouldn't mind sitting him out the rest of camp/ pre-season... his presence on the field in the middle is vital if we are to make a run this year.

well all we can do right now is hope and pray that everything is fine or that the injury suffered is only minor and not too too severe, but as for me, im pretty much leaning towards/on Harbaugh's evaluation of Ngata's injury status as "day to day" and "shouldnt be too too severe". So with that said we all must enstill the hope that we all can pull through this Injury Free, or at least Have the injuries not too severe as to keep the player off the playing field, especially when they are such a force on the Defensive Line as Ngata has been.

It has its risks but hard-nosed training is good for shaking the rust off.

I have to agree that while this full contact stuff is a little dangerous, it is for the better. Injuries are apart of the game, but I don't forsee Nagta and Gaither missing more then a week or two. We'll be fine for the season and no one needs to worry.

Plus there not going live ALL the time only at certain points in practice. Ray said in one of the interviews he had with fox that players should know how to practice to avoid stupid injuries, like staying off the ground and things like that.

Ngata has a mild MCL sprain according to profootballtalk.com, at least it is not his ACL.

How long is he down for

It usually depends on the severity but it said on some medical site anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks.

you notice how guys like ray lewis and derrick mason are healthy and don't get injured. that's because they have an excellent work ethic. guys like McGahee and Gaither have questionable work ethic and guess what, they get injured. so i don't think harbaugh is pushing guys too much. much of the responsibility rests on the players to stay in shape and be ready to play.

ngata's injury is unfortunate, but apparently he's already walking on his own with a slight limp. so he'll probably be back sooner rather than later.

Ngata and Gaither are the anchors of their respective O and D. Considering last years injuries this is starting to worry me.

Yeah, stop them from playing football or they might all break. <_<

I understand the sentiment that it's not the time to be going all out, but these guys, of all people, should be able to handle it, no?

Yes, they should.. In my opinion, however, it is too much too soon for a lot of these guys.

Old news, you will prolly see this everytime He steps on the field, I just keep praying for the guy.

I do like Dan Cody, as a person and a player. But his injury bug is detrimental to our roster. I say its time to move on. As for everyone else thats been injured. Nothing season ending since camp started and the nothing out of the unusual past sparins and such. So far it seems like Harbs is doing the right thing.

No he actually went down limping for a second time this camp and agian didn't come back till later then in true Boller fashion he gets a sack on our most experienced QB limping and waddling
