Rumor: Ravens Likely To Cut Willis Mcgahee

117 posts in this topic

Not surprising. He could still potentially come back with a new contract though, correct? Not saying he will, I'm just not 100% on the rules.

Not yet.

They're waiting until after a new CBA is agreed upon.

If I was Willis I wouldn't come back. He could get more carries else where. I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes and hopefully a chance to start....

Willis likely cut if he can't restructure. Isn't this what we've been talking about all off season? Sun is just saying what we are seeing.

Mike Preston claims that the Ravens have made the decision to cut McGahee and will do so on the 3rd. He also said that the players were complaining about practices being too demanding although three of them have publically stated the exact opposite, since.

It would be sad to see him go, but i would feel completely confident in our run game if we had re-signed McClain. Give the man some money and give him the damn ball..

If this means we will have mo' money to go after Aso, I'm all for it.
Or maybe we could use it to resign the best dlineman in the league instead of a ridiculously paid cb

was just talked about on Totall Access also. Said he's likely to be released, then attempt to resign him for less. I feel if Willis is gone, we keep McClain

it's not a rumor!

NFL Network's Lindsey Soto just reported, and i quote;

"The Ravens have reportedly decided that they don't Willis McGahee is worth the 6 Mil base salary he's due in 2011. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that the team will cut the running back and perhaps try to resign him at a more palatable rate."

if this goes down, the Ravens need to draft a young buck at the HB spot to compliment Ray Rice.

It's a rumor until someone from the Front Office offically confirms this. Just because the NFL Network reports a rumor from Preston, it doesn't make it any more "fact".

I'm not concerned about him being cut until the Ravens report that they have released. Then I won't be concerned that he's gone for good until he signs with another team. I love Willis, and would hate to see him go. However, if it comes down it it, it is what it is.

i don't feel as though the NFL Network is some "tabloid" newspaper that just throws out "sensational" information. besides, even the front office (Ravens or any other) says one thing at times and does another.

If this happens we are 1 Ray Rice injury away from having no offense. Cam Cameron can't run an offense without competent RBs, thats why he has always had competent backup HBs in Miami and SD (like Williams and Turner) and why we drafted Ray Rice in the first place. We shouldn't cut McGahee unless we get a good HB in the draft or wait for the new CBA and see if there are more affordable backups available. While I think Lawrence and Parmele are good players, they aren't #2 caliber backs for Cam's offense.

You don't have to be a "tabloid" to report rumors. ESPN.com has a rumors section, NFL.com reports rumors. Rumors don't always have to live up to the negative connotation that comes along with the word. Until it happens or Ozzie/Harbaugh/Whoever says "Willis will be cut" it is exactly a rumor.

I don't think many OCs around the league can.

Willis should be our dual back and he should be used more in checkdowns and screens. He's just as good as Rice in space and can extend Rice's career by eating up carries.

Having both used around the 50-50 range would make opposing defenses study both running styles and make our offense more effective.

McGahee got about the same yard/carry as Rice did, but when he was in teams knew we were going to run (everyone knew). Too bad we only rotated him in for running plays, because the guy is a great pass blocker.

What a shame.

not neccesarily imo!

GMs, Coaches and Maganagement are great LIARS in front of the media or when asked direct questions that have direct answers about such matters.

we'll see how it plays out.

I like his insight into the game and his (sometimes differing) opinions on players but the whole playoff practice thing irked me a lot.

Ok then, you cant pay a guy 6M dollars to play half the snaps when you have a young RB that is more productive and costs far less. Its not that I dont like Willis, but the team doesnt need him. I'd much rather spend that money elsewhere, bring back Le'Ron and give him 100 carries.
