I know that everyone is saying that Nnamdi will cost too much money, but now that Haloti has been franchise tagged, is there any chance, as slim as it may be, that the Ravens go after Nnamdi?

I think the only way it would happen is if the Ravens could add Nnamdi for cheaper because he knows that by coming to Baltimore, he has a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl. If they could convince Nnamdi that the legit shot at the Super Bowl is worth a smaller contract than he would get with a non-contender, then he may sign for less. Thoughts?

Of course they'll try to go for him. Landing him would be much more difficult since somebody else will pay much more for his talents and we also have a ton of free agents of our own.

The Ravens will do their research on him like they do with any free agent, but it's unlikely the Ravens would land him because of the hefty price tag he'd command. While it's entirely possible that Asomugha could take a pay cut to join a winning team, he'd still earn a sizeable contract.

Also, another note, we don't allow Bleacher Report articles here; you may promote on your own profile, but links in signatures and in posts are NOT allowed due to the nature of the website, which consists of user-generated content. We had gotten attention from national media for the wrong reasons when an unsubstantiated rumor about a trade involving Jared Gaither and Nnamdi Asomugha was allegedly in the works -- a rumor that got all of us in a lot of hot water and made a joke out of the board when NFL insiders said there was absolutely no truth to the rumor.

I honestly think it's a better chance than all of us think. We could sign him to a 5 year 55-65 million dollar meal, I think he would take it. I mean, He already got all of that dough from the Raiders. I think Pagano and Ed Reed can saw him over here. He is a stand up guy, and I think he wants a ring. People always talk about how a pass rush helps a weak secondary, DId you see what Aso did with that raider pass rush? Aso can actually help our pass rush by locking up the number 1 from the other team and force te QB to go through all his options, which can be just enough time for the rush to get there. I honestly dont this ASo is chasing money anymore.

I hope you're right, but have many doubts.

Very unlikely due to the money Ngata's about to get.

It's not like we're in dire need of them assuming we resign Wilson and Carr.

I still think it's utterly rediculous to use a message board as a source. Technically, if we sign Asomugha and Gaither signed for Oakland (unlikely) then doesn't that just mean we saw a year into the future and are therefore the greatest source of Ravens goings-on ever?

I think there's about a 1% chance we get Asomugha. The "contender" argument doesn't fly since a number of contenders will be willing to pay him close to his full asking price.

My thoughts exactly. While Nnamdi will be looking to sign with a contender, the Ravens obviously aren't the only ones who will pursue him, nor will they have the most money to throw around.

I dont know why everyone is saying "we shouldn't go after him." Should we go after him? Absolutely! Will we sign him? 99% No. Just because it is very unlikely we won't sign him doesn't mean we shouldn't try. You never know.

I'm telling you, I just don't think CB is a team need anymore. Foxworth is coming back, Webb is another year removed from his ACL tear and there's a good chance that we'll re sign both Carr and Wilson.

We've also got needs at both lines, the WR position and even LB (inside, outside, take your pick). When we've got a team with other holes to fill, there's just no reason to spend big money on a CB.

We shouldn't go after him because we simply cannot afford him, that's the reality of the situation. Would he benefit the team? Absolutely! However, with young guys like Ngata now and Rice and Flacco in the very near future demanding some nice contracts, it's not beneficial to the team in the long run to even try to sign him.

If Nnamdi wants a Ring and will take a pay cut I think we could get him. But I think he wants a Ring and a Payday, something we can't give him.

i remember when anquan boldin was unlikely near impossible ..
[/quote]

That was a trade and it took negotiations over two years for the deal to happen.

What the team has do with Ngata this off-season, that there are other priority free agents and so many other teams likely to be pursuing Asomugha makes me doubt he'll sign with the Ravens.

Boldin was no demanding the type of cash that Nnamdi is, though.

CB is probably our Deepest position, not a glaring need at all. Foxworth will have had over a year to rehab before the season starts. Webb is a great athlete, and he is developing his skill set. Carr and Wilson were both more than reliable the entire season, and Cary Williams has loads of potential, hopefully we can see some more of him in the preseason. Offensive tackle, defensive end, linebacker and receiver are the largest needs as of right now. Last season our top 4 receivers were 30, 33, 36, and 30. With Housh and Stallworth most likely not coming back we need to add some youth and speed at that position. David Reed could potentially be a good player but we still need youth. And we definitely need a more consistent pass rush, someone to complement Suggs.

The Ravens should only go after Nnamdi if it's for a drastic pay-cut. I would love to have him on our team, but I'd rather not see us suffer in the long-term because we overpaid for one player when we need to re-sign Ngata and others.

I have a question: who the hell actually knows Nnamdi's asking price. How do we know it will be expensive. He made 40 mil in the last two years... HELLO! no one knows what he's asking for, for all we knOw it's probably something you can afford

Why wouldn't he be expensive? He's one of two shutdown corners in the NFL and will likely have a number of contenders willing to pay him whatever he wants because they think he can get them over the hump.

It doesn't matter what Nnamdi's asking price it. All it takes for the price to start climbing is for a team like the Eagles to offer him a large contract and some other team feeling they can top it.

Yes, Asomugha has made a lot of cash but that doesn't mean he wouldn't consider one contender over another if they offered him more money.

And now that we are cutting Willis, that means we will have more money to put towards an offer to Nnamdi.

They'll probably use that to resign McClain.
