The Dream Thread

16 posts in this topic

ok so i am interested, and always have been, about the phenomenom that is dreaming(the sleeping kind, not the"i wish i played for the ravens kind haha), are our dreams really a glimpse into the sub conscience, or conscience for that matter, do they have a meaning?

i personally believe they do, aside from the obvious things like when u dream of someone u know or a place or something, but the really strange dreams, they r just fascinating

i dont dream much, they say u dream all the time u just dont remember, so when u have a dream u do remember, maybe u were supposed to for a reason.

i had a dream about a celebrity once, and when i woke up it felt so real, i was actually mentally depressed for a few days that it wasnt real, that was when i was a teenager, and no it wasnt a "dirty" dream haha, and to this day i still have a crush on this women, very strange

share your dreams if u want to, ones u have had, or just ur personal thoughts on the matter, dreams just fascinate me.

I'm a firm believer that the occurrences in your life play a role in the dreams you have.

An obvious example would be last night, when I went to bed thinking of work and then dreamt about work. However, I've also had dreams that foreshadowed future events, like my dad totaling my car while I was away on vacation or being given an opportunity I never expected.

Ever since seeing Inception, I've been fascinated with the concept of lucid dreaming. The only reason I haven't pursued it further is my fear that I'll lose my grip on reality if I attempt to take full control of my dreams.

Occurrences in life are the principle make up of dreams. It's your sub conscious coming to life. Things that you might not have noticed in real time can be present in the dream state. Situations, people, places and feeling from real life are morphed into other sub conscious connections and are emphasized.

The sub concious can make crazy connections that our active brain cannot. It's really quite amazing.

I think I saw a guide somewhere where it teaches you how to lucid dream. I might have saved it in my computer. Let me try and dig it up

Also, check your totem.

i agree, this suggest's that we need dreams essentially, to figure out events in our lives that we otherwise could not.

as i sid in my OP, i rarely dream anymore, i wonder if there r a whole bunch of solutions to my problems, but they r untapped becuz i do not dream, but at the same time, if my mind knows the solution, why can i not think of it while awake?? puzzling

You were right when you said you're always dreaming when you're asleep. If you don't remember your dreams, there's a reason.

I think the more tired you are when you go to bed, the more likely you are to remember your dream. Then there are stress/biological factors involved.

Well, I searched around my vast collection of pictures, but I can't find it. Maybe I didn't have it saved. I'll be sure to post it here once I find it.

Your not missing anything. Dreams for the most part are irrelevant. There aren't any solutions. Just a bunch of random sub conscious connections, that for the most part make no sense.

Some people think they can interpret dreams based on their content. This might be true in some cases. But dreams can really only be traced back to things which have already occurred. With no rhyme or reason. Just a whole of lot of misc content.

Right. Unless you're hiding something about your past subconsciously, dreams are just thoughts without realistic structure. There's no meaning behind them besides what you're thinking about.

Some people claim they can dream and predict future events, but I'm sure that's just probability (e.g., one out of every thousand comes true).

It's fun to believe in them though.

I'm not opposed of anything supernatural. My brain likes facts but it also likes to think it can't even comprehend hidden truths that haven't been discovered.

Plus I love the X-files.

I dont really know if that kind of stuff happens full blown but I have had some really really freaky moments. I dont know if this has happened to anyone else but I have had dreams about places I haven't been to and 2,3,4 years later I'm in that place. I got the dirtiest feeling of deja vu that I actually stopped what I was doing and had to shake my head around it. I was a collegiate baseball player and as such lived in California, Florida, and New York for the game and I've gone to some small crummy places in each and had that deja vu feeling resurface only to recognize the scenery to the place. There's no benefit to it at all, I don't know the outcome or whats transpiring.

According to my university psychology course dreams are our sub conscience's representation of things we have either thought long and hard about, reinforcing that scenario or moment, and of things we want to happen to us.

i had a dream once that i had my arm pinched in a car door and i woke up and my arm was asleep, common somewhat, or u dream ur climbing a hill and u wake up and ur legs r sore, the kicker is in tho, my whole dream was leading up to my arm being pinched, so its almost like my mind knew my arm was falling asleep before it did and created a story line in my dream leading up to it haha, but on the other hand im sure time moves slower in ur dreams than in reality, so my entire dream could have lasted only 5 seconds but it felt like a long time, i am also a very very light sleeper, so things i can hear when im sleeping r often incorporated into my dreams

I'm with Franchise here in so much as the chance that events in your life have an influence on one's dreams. I know of this because over the past few years I have been having dreams about my father, who passed away in 1993. Over the last thirteen years of his life, we didn't get along, mostly because he was a controlling, domineering man. When I wanted my freedom as a young adult, he refused to let me go on my own, and I had to live with this for a long time.

Fortunately, I am seeing a counselor, who is helping me to move on with my life. I wish all the best for the rest of you with understanding your dreams.
