UPDATE: OJ Atogwe Cut by Rams, Signs With Redskins

20 posts in this topic

According to Adam Schefter. I'm interested in seeing what team will pick him up. The guy is just a playmaker. And I know it's a pipe dream, but...

UPDATE: Atogwe signed a 5-year, $26 million deal with the Redskins. (LINK)

he is a beast but he'll cost a lot
That's the reason I don't think he lands here. I'm still interested in seeing how it pans out since the last time he was a Free Agent, teams that were projected to offer him a contact because of a need at Safety, such as the Cowboys and Vikings, didn't exactly rush to his front step with their checkbooks open as was expected. That's not to say that there won't be a market for him. One can still hope though, right?

Yeah his roster bonus was steep so not surprised about this move.

Doubt we go after him but I wonder what they'll do if they decide not to resign Landry.

This should make for an interesting Free Agency period with the possibility of many good players either hitting Free Agency or being traded and now the release of OJ makes it more interesting.

Hawks? Lions?

Both teams already have good young safeties in place. But they may attempt to sign Atogwe.

Jaguars, Vikings?

Ya Vikings were the first team I thought of that could use a safety that actually makes plays, unlike theirs.

i would really like the big offseason move by the ravens be for him
It would be awesome but "big off-season move" by the Ravens comes down to the "right player, right price" philosophy and Atogwe wouldn't appear to fit the latter of that.

Atogwe is an excellent playmaking safety, sorta like a poor man's Ed Reed, but he's gonna be asking for a hefty price. But could you imagine?? Reed and Atogwe in the safety department, Qb's would be too scared to throw it deep, so pass rush wouldn't be as important as Qb's would try to go short on all their throws to avoid throwing INT's.... not to mention that our new DB coach loves playmaking DB's, and he always seems to make his DB's a little better.

The problem with having a safety who gambles in coverage is a higher change of blowing assignments and allowing big plays, now imagine two. We need someone who complements Reed, not a bad imitation.

Heard he made the required visit to the Redskins. Are there any big name free agents that don't go to a visit to Washington?

Many go, some stay, none come out alive.

Otogwe's a Redskin. LINK
