I'm wondering what this means for Mason's future. Getting James Hardy as a big body low risk type guy is one thing, but getting another receiver? Maybe I'm just looking into it to much.

I agree 100%, I just don't know if signing a bunch of released players is the way to do it.

Just because a receiver has been signed, doesn't mean he'll exactly be playing for this team. I wouldn't look too much until it.
[/quote]

Yep. We do need to start loading up on camp bodies, thats all we are doing. Most of these guys won't even make it that far. McKie, Jones are no 'indicators' of things to come.

These guys mean nothing toward the future of Mason. He will most likely play next season, and 1 more season max after that (although I doubt he plays past next season). If anyone is affected by this it would be Donte and TJ, I'ld say each of them is one step closer to an exit from the Ravens.

He's a pretty good route runner, but he is probably another camp body.

Arent there better receiver out there to sign? Its not like he's a deep threat or big target or anything. And he's 28 so he's not exactly young, but he's not exactly old. I dont see him making it on the 53 man roster.

Haha, Jones and Stallworth are the annual 'sleeper pick' in fantasy football leagues. Problem is, if you are a sleeper 6 years in a row...maybe you just suck.

used to play for TENN. Pretty decent size and hands, no route running, underachiever. A nobody.

I would not doubt it if we hear about how he's "making strides in practice", "he just needed a new envornment", "he can offer a lot to this team", then the next thing you know, he's starting. This dude and Hardy better not be scapegoats because the FO doesn't want to draft a WR.

He's not even going to make the team.

I don't know why people seem to feel this way considering the interest the Ravens have shown in WRs that will be in the draft since the off-season started.

How do you know that he won't make the team?

I'm not being a negative Nancy, I'm just familiar with how we scout, give people a look, say we like them and not draft them when they go to another team and are able to contribute immediately. I just want a first/second round WR to be quite honest.

He was out of football last season. Caught 1 pass with the 9ers in '09. And had a below average four-year career with the Titans before that. Boldin and Reed are under contract and Mason will likely return. That leaves two(maybe three) more spots. I just don't see Jones winning one.

We've had this discussion before. To me, the team has good reason not to draft a WR in the 1st or even the 2nd round every year since they took Clayton. This year is different though.

he def wont beat Hardy out for a spot. In fact Jones is kinda like a poor man's Hardy. Which is kind of wierd to say since Hardy has yet to accomplish anything in the league.

The guy doesn't have much outlook. Like ER said, he didn't even play football last year. And before that he was cut by the Seahawks. I highly doubt this move has any bearing on future decisions by the team.

This year I think we will find a gem in the second round.
Thus we will trade back for more picks exactly what we did last year and grab 2 sleeper. These sleepers, may have been passed up in the 1st round into the second round...God Bless America and of course Ozzie....

What does signing a WR have to do with trading back in the draft and America?

There are more roster spots for an 18games or two extra playoff spot season. I think da ravens are anticipating more games. Hmmmmm....

I have to agree with some that he is a camp body. He doesn't make the team you lose nothing. Then again there's always the chance someone can turn their careers around. Unlikely, but you never know if you don't look at them.

i kinda feel like he ravens are turning into Gary Williams with trying to make superstars out of sleepers/someone from the playground in brazil instead of drafting/recruiting big names.

Wow...

What makes you think the team is trying to develop Jones into anything?
