Jake Fox needs to make this club... anyone else worried about Mark Reynolds and his lack of power this spring? There's no guarantee that he'll transition well to the AL... I think Britton needs to start out in AAA, but I have a feeling that he'll get the call to the bigs fairly quickly.

Fox should make the team. I can't see Buck not rewarding him after what he's done so far. Plus, the man is too versatile not to have on the roster.

I'll be worried if Reynolds is still scuffling a month into the season.

I agree with you on Britton.

It's going to be tough with Reynolds because of his high K rate and how we judge "success" with him. I mean will a sub .200 average with 28-35 HRs and over 200 Ks be good enough?

Na sub. 200 no way..

I could handle high k's as long as he gets the homers but anything under. 230 and id be upset..

Now if he gets his 09 numbers again then maybe. 200 would be a little more bearable lol

I'm hoping he doesn't hit below the Mendoza line again but could stomach 200+ Ks if he hit over 30 bombs.

Anyone planning on going to a game or a couple games this season? I'm hoping that I can make the trip up from NC and see a game or two. I remember just taking a light rail down, paying $8 for a nose bleed seat and watching a game, or going with my friends and enjoying it even though they lost most of the time but it's fun to go out to Camden Yards and just watch a game.

Did you guys catch the Adam Jones HR from last night? He absolutely destroyed it to deep center... it was one of those "no-doubters." I look for him to hit at least 25 HRs this season.

Former Oriole Kevin Millwood signed a minor league deal with the Yankees... let's hope he gets into that rotation soon! Hahaha.

In other news, it was great to see Reynolds get his first HR of the spring last night.

All right... what are everyone's official predictions in terms of wins this year?

I have us winning 84 games.

I think 84 games is very optimistic. I say we win 78 games, but I wouldn't be shocked if we were over .500

Speaking of Jake Fox, can someone please explain this. I just came across this, and in a game that the O's were leading 13-3 and Fox had a 3-0 count, he swung and both Buck and the other manager weren't happy... can someone explain why? Oddly the O's went on to win 14-9 so why did Buck want Fox to be conservative and not hit the ball??? This is confusing me...
Swinging 3-0 in a 10-run game with no outs in the eighth inning with a minor league pitcher on the mound is a decent way to make sure you get a fastball in the ribs in your next at-bat. The average fan may not think it was a big deal but Orioles manager Buck Showalter and Tigers manager Jim Leyland certainly did.

Showalter angrily yanked off his hat, and was seen yelling in the home dugout to anyone in particular. His hat off the whole time, he kept shaking his head and muttering throughout the rest of Fox's at-bat, which resulted in a walk. Leyland, meanwhile, yelled at Fox from the top step of the dugout.

When Fox was removed for a pinch runner, Showalter made sure that he was one of the first people to meet him in the dugout and he gave him an earful. The Orioles manager was still fuming about it after the game as it apparently wasn't the first time this spring where Fox ignored a clear take situation.
I'm sorry but there is no being conservative in Baseball Buck, you had a 10 run lead and lost by 5, how dumb. Like in Football... There is no such thing as Running up the Score, your just finishing your opponent.

It's against baseball etiquette, especially when you're up big... it's just something you don't do. Some people have said it was OK since he wasn't yet told he had made the team, but still, if it's a 3-0 count and you are up by that much, leave the bat on your shoulder.

Part of me can understand since it's Spring Training, but if Buck tells someone to get conservative during the regular season when the wins matter I'm going to have a issue. Just like Football, momentum can swing in a blink of a eye in Baseball and why would you stop just because your afraid of running up the score. I hope Buck doesn't pull this stunt, if he does I bet the Orioles let up and the other team catches up and wins I'll be mad.

That really annoys me. I've really gained an appreciation for baseball in the last two years and I understand beaming players is a part of the game. Still, I find it moronic that an opposing team would retaliate because another swung at a ball he liked, regardless of the situation.

Maybe if the pitcher's teammate had done a better job, they wouldn't be in a position to deserve mercy.

99.99% of the time guys will take a 3-0 pitch, no matter the score or situation, unless you're a Pujols-esque player, but even he will most likely take those pitches. Again, it's just something you generally don't do in baseball.
