3-4 Assault

Ravens Uniform Idea.

89 posts in this topic

This is more of a rant, but as a person who makes a living as a graphic design as well as being a big fan, I think its time for the Ravens to update/change/refresh their uniforms; but with a twist.

To me, it seems like alot of the recent uniforms changes from around the league are all very similar in nature. (ie Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Arizona). very Area Football-like.

I suggest that the Ravens take a page out of the 49ers book, and change their uniforms to a old-school look. I think that a more gritty, throwback look would fit this teams image and philosophy alot better then going the route of something new and flashy. In addition, the simplicity of some uniforms, for example the Packers, Bears, Browns, 49ers., and yes, the Steelers all have very iconic and timeless look that have stood the test of time and still look just a great as they did 30 years ago.

IMO, there is also another reason why the teams I listed above have uniforms that look proper; only 2 colors between the helmet, jersey and pants. I believe that the current look the Ravens have doesn't flow very well. Black helmet, purple jersey and white pants. One of those colors need to go. The helmet needs to have the same color as either the jersey or pants. The Ravens got it started in the right direction with the current alternate look (black jersey and white pants) but there is alot of room for tweaking.

These are my thoughts broken down: Home Jersey
- Keep the current helmets as-is, but lose the two purple "accents" in the front and replace it with a purple band down the middle
- Make the switch to the black jerseys as the default home jersey.
- White block numbers w/ a thin purple and gold outline...no drop shadow.
- Numbers on sleeves, purple going across where the sleeve meets the shoulder.
- White pants w/ a thick purple strip and two smaller black bands on the sides.
- Same black socks.

These are my thoughts broken down: Away Jersey
- Keep the current helmets as-is, but lose the two purple "accents" in the front and replace it with a purple band down the middle
- White jerseys.
- Purple block numbers w/ a thin black and gold outline...no drop shadow.
- Numbers on sleeves, purple band going across where the sleeve meets the shoulder.
- Black pants w/ a thick purple strip and two smaller white bands on the sides.
- Same black socks.

This is just me spit-balling, but I would like to hear what other fans have to say. If/when the Ravens do decide to changes their jerseys, what are your hopes?

I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back their original uniforms from when they first got here. Good ideas though, I'm a fan for change if they go that route.

If you're a graphic artist, why don't you have some examples of what you're talking about...... ? Here's your chance to impress.

Keep the jerseys the way they are but I would like to see them wear the black jersey for all home games...and do away with the purple ones and maybe have a new alternate.

Wouldn't mind seeing those unis, but they aren't spectacular. I honestly don't mind the unis they have right now, to be honest with you

I totally agree man we need a revamp of our current jerseys. We have the best logo in the Nfl i believe. I like us in black as opposed to purple because it fits the mentality of the team, hard hitting and intimidating, as well as a raven is all black. Those jerseys you made could be a start to something really cool. However, i would not want to lose the Shield sleeve logo.. i do like the idea for the lettering though. Somebody in the organization should come to the conclusion that maybe it is time for a change up, could be a chance to really market the team.

Nice, I like those ideas. They need to make a fun t-shirt to sell, kind of like their 10th Anniversary SB Shirt, but just a regular 2011 season one with the roster (it would have to be printed really tiny) on the back.

I actually really like those, they came out really well. I'm fine with the unis we have now, but if we were ever to make some radical changes that's a pretty good start.

I'm okay with the modernization trend in the NFL because no one team is taking it too far, but it seems like all of the sports leagues are trending back toward a simpler, retro look. This is especially true in the NBA. In the '90s they and the NHL fell way too hard for the "WE NEED TO APPEAL TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE!!!" trend and made some ridiculous, overdone, "futuristic" uniforms. Some of the worst examples were Toronto's dinosaur pajamas, Vancouver's jersey with way too many colors and a font that looked like it came from a '70s disaster movie poster, and the Hawks with the giant hawk in front of the jersey. Even a classic franchise like the Pistons fell for it, and even though I actually liked their uniform it didn't suit and old school team. Now, a lot of teams are righting those wrongs...but have once again gone too far. The jerseys are a reflection of the current state of small market basketball: bland, homogenized, indistinguishable, and unappealing. There always needs to be a reasonable mix.

I kinda like your idea as well, my only thing is I really like the crest on the shoulders. I think its just a really nice touch to the current unis.

I think the only thing that makes them look "Vikings-esque" is the stripe from the shoulders to the armpit and the number pattern, but really does that make them "Viking-esque". Alot of teams have similar number patterns.

I seem to be in a minority of not liking the black. And never liked it

With your designs, would you consider leaving in the shoulder crest?

All black uniforms are the way to go. They look mean and intimidating, and absolutely sick. Wouldnt want to ever lose the shield on the sleeve, that brings some hometown pride into the jersey. I like the idea of the logo above the name on the back. Our alternate raven logo would look soooooo cool there

Look pretty good, but they just look real college football like. I think the "B" on the helmet might look better. THe uniforms are just so traditional looking that the bird doesn't seem like it would fit.

When the Ravens hosted the Steelers this year... they switched it up and wore black pants with the purple jersey.(they typically wear the white pants with the purple jersey).

I actually really liked this combination. They certainly didn't play well that game, but their uniforms looked good!

BLACK AND PURPLE!

Im a HUGE fan of the all black! I think purple with black pants should be our away and white can be our alternates.
[/quote]

Black pants just don't look that good on us for some reason, though I did like them in that concept away uni. The black jersey/white pants combo works out really well for us.

Nice post, but do the teams get input on their Jerseys?
This season Nike replaces Reebok as the manufacturer of NFL uniforms and they have already announced plans to change them.

I really like the Uni's we have now. I think its pretty unique to Baltimore, and having the Black alternates for a big game is always fun.

I would have to say that the uniform design submitted in this thread does look appealing, and I think that, should our team go this route, we may just see this new look receive a great response from the faithful.

I like the blacks as alternates. Having them play in blacks more than a few times a year would take away the excitement. Plus, havig purple alternates wouldn't feel right.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I didn't want to make any changes to any of the current logos. I believe that goes a bit further then just a uniform refresh.

I took the shield off the sleeves mainly because ever piece of our current uniforms has a different logo on it. (bird on the helmet, shield on the jersey and "B" on the pants)

To be honest, the shield is probably my favorite logo this organization has, so I didn't want to leave it out. I think having it small, and above the player name adds a nice touch.

My idea was to more or less stream line our look. A cleaner/simpler look, while also having some old-school smashmouth football feel.
