Best Coaches In The Nfl

6 posts in this topic

Name the best Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and (if you're feeling frisky) Special Teams Coordinator in the NFL.

Now, before you all put "John Harbaugh and Cam Cameron" let me employ some ground rules.

- The named coach must have been employed by his current team for at least 1 season (No Cam Cameron)

- No retired coaches

- Please offer a brief reason why you think so

:)

Mine:

Head Coach - Tony Dungy,Colts

Oh, I know. A lot of you will choose Belichick, and he was tempting, but Dungy is a beast. His only losing season was in 1996 (in his rookie year as a HC) and he basically constructed 2 SuperBowl winning teams. Gruden got lucky when that ring fell in his lap. He's been a model of consistency and is squeaky clean. (Spygate)

Offensive Coordinator - Josh McDaniels, Patriots

He coordinated the best Offensive season of any team in the entire history of the NFL. Sure, he had Brady, Moss, Welker, and countless other playmakers but he put all the pieces together. He put them in spots to make plays. He is the best.

Defensive Coordinator - Rex Ryan, Ravens

Easy, easy choice. The Mad Scientist is the best. He schemes so well, make such efficient blitz packages, and keeps our Defense as one of the best in the league. We're lucky no one tried to make him their Head Coach, yet. We're lucky to have him.

Special Teams - Dave Toub, Bears

Did he make Devin Hester or did Devin Hester make him? The chicken or the egg? I don't know. But I do know he was the 2006 Special Teams Coach of the Year and he's made Robbie Gould into one of the best kickers in the NFL. He's my choice.

I'd say Hester made him. He was ridiculous at Miami too. Jerry Azumah was a quality return man but he couldn't do half of what Hester is doing with so little experience. I think that suggests that Hester is doing it, not Toub.

I'm gonna put Tom Moore for best OC. I mean c'mon, he made Peyton Manning what he is today. Plus he helped the Steelers win two superbowls. Plus in 1995, he helped the Lions become the number one offense in the league and the first NFL team with two 100 catch recievers. That's pretty darn good in my book.

And for HC I' gonna put Tony Dungy becasue he's able to win championships without extra film. (Spygate)

Head Coach - Bill Bellichek- 3 of the past 7 superbowls have gone to New England and they have played in 4 of the last 7. Dont want to hear about Spygate, he is still the best. Unbelievable at disguising his defensive weaknesses and exploiting the offensive weakness.

Offensive coordinator - Tom Moore - I know Peyton has alot to do with there offense being good. But to consistently be a top 3 offense every year is hard no matter who the QB is. They seem to have no problem plugging in players on the O line or at any other position on the offense and getting production. I think you can say Moore is partly responsible for Peyton being who he is today because he was coached him for all 10 years peyton has been in the league.

Defensive Coordinator - Monte Kiffin - I wanted to put Rex here but Monte has done it for so long at a high level its hard to put Rex above him. Monte is the engineer of the Tampa cover 2 defense that so many teams use today.

Special Teams - Steve Crosby - Chargers gave been top 5 special teams for nearly every year he has been there. He continues to put special team players to the pro bowl every year

HC - Jack Del Rio (strange, I know, how many championship have the Jags won? lol) Jack Del Rio's team plays hard every game. I mean those guys play hard. They don't have alot of names, don't make alot noise in FA, questionable draft picks in the last 3 or 4 years too, but he get's them ready to play. He was the linebackers coach beginning in 99' and won a Superbowl with us here Bmore. He got our boys ready to play too. Made a franchise altering decision when he cut Leftwich, and beat the Squeelers in Heinz field twice in 4 weeks last year. Best of luck to Jack Del Rio

OC - Tom Moore, obvious I know. But it's more than Peyton over there in Indy. They swap parts and keep going like it's nothing. His play action calls are killers.

DC - Rex Ryan baby! Most creative and ballsy DC out there. Who else makes the 46 work in the NFL? And work well. His play calling gives us a great chance, every game.

ST - I don't know much about this. I am going to say Dave Toubs too, and not just because of Hester, but because I'm pretty sure he does something right. We've all seen all 11 of Hester's TD rets. They're great fun to watch. But seriously, look how many times this guy hits the edge with a 3 man wall in front of him. Those guys go out there to hit somebody and clear the way, very successful unit.
