I agree. I know we wouldn't be able to afford him. But he's like the one guy I wouldn't mind trying to get.

Him and Nnamandi are 2 players I wouldn't mind throwing some money at.

Yea I wouldn't mind Nnamandi, but some team is going to throw too much money at him. I don't even consider him, despite how much I ( and all of us) would love that.

I'd stay away from Bailey.

The only guy who we should really try for is Jonathan Joesph. He probably wants out of Cincy (who wouldn't), knows the AFC North and we wouldn't have to worry about playing against him anymore.
I like Joseph as well, he's the better of the tandem and I think he matches up pretty well with who alot of people want to see us draft at corner (Brandon Harris), I think they're similar players. He's AFCN tested, and a solid corner. If we were to target anyone in the off season I'd want it to be him.

How about we Target Wilson & Carr and with Fox coming back and Carey Williams hopefully getting better... sounds ok to me, especially if we can improve the pressure on quarterback.
I'm ok with drafting a corner but not in the first couple rounds unless someone drops unexpectedly.

Didn't our corners shadow Bowe and pretty much take him out of the game too?

While agree that going younger is better, having key veteran leadership is key. I think any coach will tell you the same.

Key leadership is very key i agree..

While I'd like to see both Wilson and Carr return, I just have a feeling one of them(leaning towards Wilson) won't be returning.

If Wilson is re-signed though, I think the team will be able to wait till the mid or even late rounds to draft a CB. Someone like Marcus Gilchrist or Richard Sherman would be good.

I really hope you're wrong. I've been a Wilson fan since his Seattle days, but I'd take him over Carr without being biased.

I hope I'm wrong too. Josh turns just 26 this year and can still improve. His age and the fact he played so well down the stretch are reasons his asking price could go up.

That is definitely true. It's still funny to me to think back about some people who complained about not taking the 23 year old Kyle Wilson with the 1st round pick. A few months later, we get an even better Wilson, who's only 2 years older, for a mere conditional pick.

I'd rather sign Champ Bailey than draft a corner. We need youth along the defense in general, but we are very young at the corner position. We have lots of guys who make for great number twos and nickels, but we don't have that guy who can really slow down a top receiver. Champ Bailey could be that guy. He'd be much more affordable than Asomougha, and I think he'd be interesting in playing for a team that has a legitimate chance to win a championship. If the price is right, I say save the draft pick for a position that needs some youth rather than adding more youth to an already young group of corners.

I'd rather have Wilson and Carr instead of Webb and Foxworth. If anyone should be let go, it's Foxworth and Williams
I don't know about letting go of Foxworth. We'd still be shelling out the guaranteed money just for him to not play here. He also really turned it on during the last portion of the 09 Season, so granted that he'll be near 100%, he should have a solid year.

It speaks to the front office's acumen.

The CB corps is relatively young but they aren't wet behind the ears. None are top-flight talents either but with a stronger pass rush, they'd be more than serviceable.

If he wants to come play on a veteran defense with Ray, Ed, and Suggs... then sure, sign him.

But if Champ wants big money, then no. He's not worth it.

He can play corner when necessary, and if Wilson/Webb/Foxworth are all healthy and playing well... then we can put Champ Bailey back at safety with Ed Reed. There's no doubt in my mind he won't be making the inexcusable mistakes in coverage that Landry makes.

To an extent I agree with you. I think they were solid this year. Another young, solid player won't upgrade the secondary. That's why if we sign a corner, I want us to sign a corner that will actually upgrade the secondary. Drafting a Brandon Harris or an Aaron Williams will not be an upgrade over Webb, Foxworth, or Carr/Wilson if we resign them. Champ Bailey would be. Only if the price is right, of course.

How wouldn't an additional "young, solid" player improve the secondary? Watching a Ravens CB land on IR each of the past 4 seasons is an evidence of how important depth is. If both Wilson and Carr are re-signed, the team won't have to address the position in FA in my opinion and could wait till late in the draft in my opinion. If Carr is re-signed, I'd have little problem if the Ravens drafted Harris or Williams.

Even if we only resign one of our free agent corners, we'll still be looking at three starting caliber corners. Unless we're sold that a guy we draft early will be a lockdown corner (and to be fair, when Ozzie drafts someone in the first round, I'm confident he is sold on him), then there is no point in adding another corner of the same level of Foxworth, Webb, or Carr/Wilson. A secondary of consisting of those pieces, along with Cary Williams or another young guy, would be solid. Maybe draft a guy late or sign a cheap dime back, but I don't think corner is a huge need. The only way we can actually improve the secondary would be to sign a player that is superior to the ones we have, and no one in our draft range is that guy. That's why I would rather sign Champ Bailey than draft a guy. I'm with you, though, that if we resign both Wilson and Carr, I wouldn't worry about getting a top tier cornerback at all.

I'm thinking beyond this season though. There are a number of CBs besides Harris and Williams with upside the Ravens could draft beyond the first round. Champ is quality player but just not worth signing in my opinion. Who knows if he'll want to switch to safety is his play at CB declines next season.
