Ravens To Tag Ngata

Thought I post this here since we are talking about giving the Franchise Tag to Ngata. The NFL has informed all the teams that the Franchise Tag can be used starting on Feb 10th.

It would be nice if we can get Gaither done and get Ngata done soon after so that we don't have to use the Franchise Tag on Ngata at all.

Now the players association is saying the franchise tag is meaningless for 2011. It's becoming even more difficult for the average fan to make sense of. The Ravens are only left with signing Ngata to a long term contract before the March 4th deadline at this point if they want to lock him up.

I would have to agree If you have no contract how can you enforce any of the rules for signing or franchising.

Seems a delemna not verified. But I am sure the Legal Eagles are messign with this.

Maybe a great solution to the NFL problem is ALL PLAYERS are free agents after the sign a new CBA. That would be a Joke.

Looks to that the management and players have found a way to destroy the game. After the Lock Out and the fans get used to no games for a season will they return. True most money is made by tv but someone has to want to watch. TV then may not want to pay as much for a MLB draw after their debacle.

Oh well we are only the fans. What to we count for?????

So those late 1st rounders don't have that much value. Usually there's nothing left late in the 1st round anyway and teams try to either trade down or trade up to get out of that spot.[/quote]

Well for 1, later 1st round picks are much cheaper than early picks (although that may change with new CBA). And don't ypu remember Ray Lewis and Ed Reed were both taken later in round 1. Ray was 26 overall and Ed was 24. Also, Heap 31st overall and Oher 23rd overall. If you have a good GM like Ozzie, any pick in the top 40 can easily be gold.

I agree. Jets could swoop.

They can't even afford to keep all of their current Free Agents, nevermind exploring outside options. David Harris might be tagged in the near future and Cromartie probably demand a decent contract as well. So in reality, they will be giving up two 1st Round Picks, and a decent player who helped them get to the AFCCG. Chances of this happening? Not very likely.

I too wonder if people understand the current situation. No CBA means no information - no ideas on
what or if FA will look like; on if or what a salary cap will be, etc.
Teams will use the franchse tag to protect players they want to sign long term, if and when the new
CBA gets done.
How we get from that to Ngata being signed by the Jets is a total mystery to me!
Even more of a mystery is how or why the Jets offering two first round picks for Ngata will make
the FO accept the deal? (based on the current 1st round draft schedule, only the Pats have two picks in the
1st round of the draft).
