I think Troy deserved it because he bounced off Ray Rice when he ran it in for a touch down on him. I honestly think Matthews deserves it. He really had an outstanding year. I will say I didn't expect him to sound so young when they interviewed him. Troy didn't have that great a year and even though Reed led the league in interceptions after missing 6 games, we didn't get to see how out of this world he would have been had he played all season. But Matthews played with a lot of intensity and showed he wanted it this year. He just has one more game to prove it. The Packers look similar to us our super bowl year, except with a much better QB.

Ed Reed missed 6 games so that hinders him despite leading the NFL in INTs. Clay Matthews cooled off in the second half and didn't notch enough tackles (only had 60 something). He's a great pass rusher, but the same can be said for Tamba Hali, Cameron Wake, and James Harrison. (EDIT): Cant forgot about Sizzle too!

Take Troy out of the Steelers Defense and you can see the impact it makes. Last year is a perfect example. With him in there this year they went back to their stout form. Plus he helped the Steelers to gain an advantage to win the AFC North and get the #2 seed. His play arguable impacted the end of the season for both the Ravens and Steelers.

I don't know how a guy who missed what 4 games can win DPOY? But thats the exact reason pundits said Reed couldn't win it for missing 6?

If Reed didn't go onto the PUP, he would've had a great chance at it. Such a shame, because he was fighting to get off the PUP as soon as he went on it.

I don't care what anyone says, my vote would be for Ed Reed. Part of that comes from the homeristic side of me, part of it comes because the man is my hero, and part of it comes that I find the man the most entertaining athlete in the world of sports. The guy is a game changer and will have my vote every year until he retires.

If you can miss 6 games and still lead the league in interceptions, that speaks in volumes.

Polamalu only missed 2 games though.

So because people never "put on pads" we don't know what we're talking about regarding football. Sorry, but not true. Has every football pundit played football? Probably not. Has every coach played football? Probably not.

It's not my fault the information you presented was incorrect. No need to get your panties all in a knot about it.

How could you forget about Suggs?

Troy is great, yes, but when they say he made "game changing plays", all they're talking about is his sack on Flacco. All the other plays he made are compiled in something known as "stats", of which Ed Reed has the better.

As for the "He makes the Steelers defense so much better" argument, having an insufficient backup and basing a defense on one guy doesn't merit DPOY. If that was the case he'd win it every year.

Whoops! Sorry, was trying not to be a homer haha.

Suggs would have been my homer choice for DPOTY considering he has no help outside of Ngata.

If your going to go the impact route, how do you discount the impact Ed has on our defense? Dude had half as many turnovers as our team did in 6 weeks in one single game.

Peyton Manning should have 10 Offensive POYs by now because his backup is Curtis Painter. Look how much better he makes that offense!

I would have gone with Reed or Matthews. Clay was probably one of the best pass rushers all season, tenacious and dominate. Reed, dude played half a season and led the NFL in interceptions. That right there says it all.

You don't watch enough Steelers games. He changed the Atlanta game in week one and he was a HUGE impact in the Tennessee game in week 2. He also shut down Carson Palmer when we needed him to this year. He was quiet in the playoffs, but so was our opponents WR's.

I don't think you guys miss Ed as much as we miss Troy. Ed's like the whip cream and cherry on top where as Troy is our ice cream.

It doesn't matter. I said that how much a player's absence hurts the team doesn't automatically make him the best player. Hence the Curtis Painter/ Peyton Manning example.

Troy is an obvious candidate for DPOY but I don't think he should've won, at least not for the reasons mentioned.

I really don't think a vote or two for Suggs would have been homerism. When Rotoworld was running with Schefter's report that Matthews won it, even they said Suggs should have received consideration too. Thomas and Whitworth aside, he has little trouble beating any tackle in the game and is almost always stout against the run.

Hairball made enough game changing plays this year to have earned the award. The argument could be made for Harrison, Suggs, Ngata, Reed and Matthews as well, but Troy isnt a bad pick at all.

No you said,
when they say he made "game changing plays", all they're talking about is his sack on Flacco.
And I'm telling you he's changed more games than that and it's obviously not all about stats either. Well, at least not IMO. I wouldn't have been shocked or hurt if Clay Matthews got it. Heck, Troy only won by 2 votes, but he was voted in as DPoY and that's good enough for me.

I can't believe Brian Urlacher got two votes...

Julius Peppers had more of an impact on the Bears defense IMO.

Suggs should have gotten those two.

I meant more as a recognition for his defensive play. Polamalu/Matthews were 1st and 2nd and Harrison got 8 votes.
