Suggs, Ravens Can't Agree

135 posts in this topic

Im kinda annoyed at Suggs. I know hes taking the business perspective of it but cmon man. They upped it a couple hundred K on his deal. So what if its 3 hundred K short. Cmon man he should just take the money. The season he starts gettin as many sacks as Ed Reed gets interceptions should be the time he gets the position he should be paid.

...and in doing so, they cancel each others impact on the team completely out...yeah smart move...

I agree with your argument. I think Suggs is an excellent football player and shouldn't be traded. Period. But the above statement is completely elementary. It's not a +1, -1 issue. They don't simply cancel each other out. Especially for a team in need of certain, key, areas on the offensive side of the ball. Would we miss him if he was traded? Sure, we would. But a great left tackle would make more of an impact during the season than any DE. The problem is, they do it every down, and they don't get the limelight. Again, SUGGS SHOULD NOT BE TRADED.

So what? He should made the highest paid defensive player in the NFL? Please. Ship him and his money hungry agent out for a player that would help us win this year (Anquan Boldin). We can easily replace his production, or at least what his production has been lately. If he really wants to be the highest paid player on the Ravens then he is worth more on the market than he is on the field.

How about Suggs for Bills LT Jason Peters? They cant afford what hes asking and hes holding out too, make the trade and throw him the money Suggs wants. What do you think?

I was just trying to make it clear that I like Suggs on the field, and am not a Suggs hater. Yes, this is really annoying. Yes, I think he's asking too much. Would I be sad if he went? No. As stated before, Antwaan Barnes deserves a shot. I think he's hungry as hell to prove himself. I would just like to see both sides come to an agreement. I hope Suggs is in a Ravens jersey soon, but if not, oh well.

I like suggs but if getting rid of him and acquiring a player that can make the offense better and more consistent is an option then I'd get rid of suggs for the betterment of the Team. I'm a Ravens fan before I'm a suggs fan or a fan of any player.

Trade him for (fill in the blank)

Oh yes, because there are no binding conditions in the NFL such as cap penalties and contracts. And nevermind the fact that the Ravens don't want to trade Suggs and the player and/or team on the opposite side of the trade wants him or wants to give their player up. Nevermind it all..

all this talk about Trading Suggs and the pre-season hasnt even started yet. Now i can understand some fans Fustration with Suggs in not signing his franchise Tag/tender, but let it be known, he is still a Baltimore Raven, and has Expressed that he wants to be a Raven for life until the day he retires and every day after. So with that said, Many people are wayyy to early on their asumptions on this, neither Side.....Suggs or the Ravens are talking at this point in time about Contract issues, and that is only because League rules state that the Deadline has passed, so the team will have to wait until after this upcoming season ends, before either side/party, engages into any sort of Contract talks/negotiations.

And either way you may look at this deal with suggs right now, it works out, why you ask? because The Team is getting the primary chance to get a great, not just good, but GREAT look at the younger talented players on this team, and at what they could offer this team as far as helping this team out any way they possibly can. It allows a more open shot for the rookies and/or younger players on the roster to make a statement for remaining a Baltimore Raven after all this is said and done with.

Something else you have to think about..

Do the Ravens have the right to trade Suggs? Does his unsigned franchise tender not only protect him from financial penalty from the team but also the right to trade him? If it does, this thread just ended in the pooper.

Yes of course teams would never trade players while under contract they would only trade players who aren't under contract. You're first sentence is so absurd.

I do love the talk about how no one would trade Suggs while we are in the same off season that saw Jason Taylor end up a Redksin.

When I said "contracts" I meant the salaries paid to the players and such not the fact that there was a contract in place. Jason Taylor was a goner as soon as Parcells moved into town. He'd been bickering with the organization all offseason. Terrell Suggs has not done that and Ozzie Newsome has made him a top priority to keep.

And as time goes by and reality sets in that Suggs does not intend to be here long term then looking for other ways to better the team become the priority. No one man is bigger than the team.

I dont believe he wants to be here long term and I dont see anything that warrants him being the highest paid DE/OLB in the league. Plenty of popular players have been traded for the greater good of their team.
