Suggs, Ravens Can't Agree

135 posts in this topic

Sorry, he IS holding out. I don't care about technicalities and what-not. The point is he is showing up his new coach and not being a part of the TEAM. The money is FULLY GUARANTEED, just sign the tender and get your rear in camp!

i know the money is guaranteed but players just hate to get the franchise tag and want the long term deal. I do wish he was there being part of the team but he's still training keeping injury free and already knows the defense. He will be fine when he comes back I just hope he comes back earlier than the deadline and gets time with the team.

Let this subject die already. Its turned into a "who is more right thread" and quit frankly its annoying. Terrell Suggs is to important to our team to let go whether you agree or not. And if you think otherwise you're obviously confused.

He's not getting traded for boldin or fitzgerald so let that talk die as well. You can quote something a million times doesnt mean your right and when it comes to football individual stats dont give the full picture because it's a TEAM sport.

So lets review

-Suggs is a beast and is one of the best players in the league

-Suggs is not getting traded for a WR

-Suggs is not getting traded period. This is not MADDEN

-Suggs is doing whats best for him and his family and if he feels he has to hold out to get the best possible deal, then so be it, he has every right to do so, whether we agree or not.

You can state your opinion but don't try to discredit another person's opinion. Yeah im upset that suggs isn't in training camp, doesn't mean i wanna see the guy with his head on a chopping block.

One last note, what happens if Suggs comes to camp and tears his ACL? Do you think he will still get that long term contract he wants????

Honestly though... honestly, who do you want on your DL this year; a good business man, or a good team mate?

'Nuff said...

These aren't facts. And seriously, don't relate this debate to Madden game. We need help on O, have defenders to boot, one of which is holding-out. A trade is not as ridiculous a possibility as you may think, especially when a playmaking WR just declared his intention to leave his current team at the first chance. That's how deals get done. Wether this particular deal gets done or not is less likely, I'll admit, but certainly not an improbable prospect.

Suggs will be in purple and black.

Training camp hold outs are par for the course.

P.P.S. Terrell Suggs may drop back off the line into the passing game, but he doesn't effect it. Ever. It's pointless that he does it, hasn't picked a ball off since 2004 and both of those were deflections. Terrell Suggs does not impact the passing game at all when he drops back into coverage.

In the last two years

Suggs 14 pass def

Lewis 16 Pass def

Scott 12 Pass def

It seems Suggs has a bit of a impact in the passing game since he is second LB on the team behind lewis in pass def in the last two years.

P.P.P.S.S.S A trade for Q is a pipe dream and I would love to have some of what your smoking out of it.

Suggs 14 pass def

I have pointed out that he plays a good outside contain, where he does a great job turning runs to inside, reading QBs, and getting his hands up to bat balls down, which is where the majority of those PD stats come from. You watch the games don't you? He doesn't cover anybody.

Pipe dream or not, insults are uncalled for, they ruin intelligent debate.

Same to you. You're a flame. A troll. Nice life.

Suggs versitility is something to be valued and certainly is something in which the Ravens as a Team holds high on their Board, because (Simply put) when you have a player of Suggs Calibur and athletic ability, it just opens up doors to many many more possibilities with your defense and everyone involved than say...if he wasnt on the team. Because of his athletic Ability, this team has been able to do certain things that we sort of could really do before, meaning that having a player like suggs with the type of talent he offers us, means that Opposing teams have to really REALLY think hard about their Offensive Schemes.

If They decide to use 2-3 blockers on Suggs to contain him, that means less lineman blocking the other Potential threats on our defense we have, but then if they only decide to use a single man blocking scheme, then that means that Suggs is basically freed up for a shot at the Quarterback. either way, With Suggs on the team, it allows us a little bit more breathing room with what we want or are trying to do with our defense.

But they don't. The middle of our line gets the doubles, and rightfully so.

Suggs gets his fair share of doubles, especially on pass rushing situations. I dont ever see anyone doubling Kelly gregg in a passing situation, and Ngata doesnt get too many either based on his speed. Its obvious you have some personal vendetta against suggs and you arent going to look at anything from an objective point of view. Im sort of biased myself, and ill admit that i like suggs, but you refuse to agree hes good at anything which everyone here knows is false.

In Suggs' defense, however, "All-Pro" DE Julius Peppers had a whopping 2.5 sacks last year so I'd say Suggs had a good year compared with that...

right, Opposing Teams Offense's know what type of player Terrell is, and they know exactly what he can do if he is not contained the right way, yet with the type of defense this is, They also have to think about the whole defense. In which Creates a huge problem for any team that faces us simply because of the simple fact that "should we double team Suggs?" or "should we just take the severe Risk of him breaking lose on us and just have one man trying to block him?"

either way you look at it, Its a success for Our Defense and our side of the Football, because either way it free's up at least one maybe two potential players, creating more opportunities for our offense to get the ball back and advance down the length of the football field. But in the end, the Bottomline of it all, is that Sugg's presence on the football field is enough for the Opposing Team offense to really ponder about what to do and how to go about trying to contain "Everyone" seeing how everybody on this defense is talented and very athletic. anyone on the defense can be potential Playmakers, all it takes is some mishaps and a few Mishaps on this offensive Front, and Or Player(s) making a move on their blocker and then BAM! sack.....or negative Yardage resulting from our defense's Excellent play.

I guess if you count getting chipped by a back double teamed...

Look, it's not a personal vendetta. And I didn't ever say he was a bad player, I just think he's over rated, over-paid, and not being a good teammate. I think we'd be better off trading him as opposed to paying him over 70 million dollars. I give him credit for being a decent pass rusher, and good playing an outside contain responsibility, and sticking his nose in on the run, if you read my posts they say that. My argument has always been that we can replace him, and we need help on the other side of the ball or we are still counting on our defense to win us every game, which won't happen. We are spoiled here in Baltimore; spoiled to think a defense can and should score every game. That's much more of a longshot than getting a great, physical, agile, and smart WR, in the prime of his career, who wants out of his current city, at least IMO.

I'm done here. I see that when you point out flaws in a fan favorite and suggest he should be traded people get pissed. So be it. Until we get playmakers on offense we won't make it out of the division (please, no stories about 2000, this defense is not that defense).

I can understand being upset at a guy for not being with the team during training camp because I totally relate. But being upset with a guy for trying to get paid?? I just think its bogus and kinda odd because I'm sure if anyone of us were in the position to make "70 million" (which is somebody's made up contract figure by the way) I'm sure we all would do whatever possible to make that happen.

How anyone can try to make the argument or insinuate that a 2 time Pro Bowler, a former Defensive Rookie of The Year, a player that even head defensive coach Rex Ryan has said is a "rare player" and he "would have given Suggs the money already", A fan favorite...for a reason, one of the most talented line backers the Ravens have on their current roster, AND! he is only 25....is some how a bum? is not good enough? and should be traded!?!....Baffles me! How can anyone ignore the tremendous impact t-sizzle has on our defense? I guess anybody will say anything these days as long as it makes them "appear" to know what they are talking about.

"I'm not concerned with Suggs, he's handling the business part of it, he's always shown the tremendous ability to come in every year being in shape, being ready to play, and he knows he has to be accountable to us when it's time to play. You know the business part is HIS business and we all hope that we are fortunate enough to one day be in that situation and that we can make it to that status. But uh you never talk about a man and his money. Suggs rest up and be ready to go when its time." -Bart Scott

Keep in mind that this is a multi-billion dollar business not just a game. I guess Anquan boldin is somehow a better business man/player for wanting to be traded to GET MORE MONEY!!!!!! Kinda hypocritical to say lets get rid of one player because he wants more money and in fact lets replace that player, with another player, that wants even more money!! Lets trade a way a good defensive player and make our defense weaker...for a good offensive player to make our offense stronger...and in doing so, they cancel each others impact on the team completely out...yeah smart move...

How bout a quick story on a 13-3 team in 06?

I GUESS...

-Todd Heap isn't a play maker

-Willis McGahee isn't a play maker

-Troy Smith isn't a play maker

-Ray Rice isn't a play maker

-Mark Clayton isn't a play maker

-Demetrius Williams isn't a play maker

If only we had a Big play maker at WR for our inconsistent, unproven, rookie qbs to throw to  all our offensive problems would be solved. Lets keep dreaming, I mean hoping...you never know.

Crazy idea, what if we offered DRAFT PICKS instead of one of our TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYERS for that one guy on the cardinals? Whats his name again?

We do need to go back to the absolute basics, an offense or defense is built from the inside out

The D is set, but our O-line is sputtering along in camp even when healthy. Our starting tackles are unproven in their respective positions and both are picking up nagging injuries, maybe this is why our QBs are struggling?

Why dont we trade for a good RT?

I don't think we should trade period! But if we had to i agree, RT would be the smart trade. I think we have a young core group of solid players on our offense that when developed will become big time players. I was jus saying sense everyone is so infatuated with the whole suggs trading concept for an offensive play-maker, why not just give up draft picks instead of a proven player? Sarcastic yeah, but definitely more logical. Still have the explosive DE and You get the play-maker WR.

To tell you the truth, I'd rather talk about that scenario then the Suggs what ifs.

^Hey, if nobody is listening to logic let emotion have its way :P

We have a history of creating good linebackers/pass-rushers who have gone on to be nothing, Suggs wont be the first and unfortunately wont be the last. From the look of training camp Antwan Barnes and Edgar Jones are beasts and havent missed a beat.

Someone in the head office needs to call up the WAHHbulance and send Suggs on his way.

That's the main thing in the nfl that angers me, many players hold more priority over ''getting paid what they think they deserve'', I'd be happy with the contract he was offered. That's the only reason I respect Payton Manning, he prefers to get paid less money to have more salary cap affordability to sign better quality players. Oh, don't u miss the good ol' days?

Man that guy gives 210% every game, why don't he deserve the money.

Oh yea its not you thowing you're body around every game going home ony to lay

in a tub of ice. You guys ought to walk a mile in hs shoes and then talk. It's not all

about the money, Some of it is about apreciation for hat he has done so far.

PAY THE MAN

sure when your a young player in the NFL right now, you always want more money "more more more" thats just how human nature seems to be, but i believe that as time goes on, its not ALL about the money, the more you play the game, the more you appreciate it more. The more your around the guys and and the People involved in the organization, the more of a "family" you will become or become a part of, hopefully ending the selfishness time period and marking the beginning of a new day and age with the Headline of "Team" as the over hanging reminder.

when you first come into the league its really hard to fully embrace everything the NFL has to offer a player, that being said, thats not to say they dont have the capability to do so, its just that some obstacles get in the way, blocking some parts from view. and so they go for the thing that comes to mind first when signing a yong player's Contract.....The Money. Then from there its Working on improving individual Skills, with the main focus on themselves and not precisely..the team at that time.

After a few years or so, things start to sink in and players start realizing that this is about Team work and team success, everyone working together and in unison as one unit, towards the ultimate Goal. And though the small Inidividual Accomplishments are great to have, its not what the team is out there for, once the team reaches the FINAL goal.....and win the Final Game (the Superbowl) only then can everyone rejoice their own way and seperate themselves for just a moment of glory......it is only then, when its their time to hold and cherish.

I think we are going to end up loosing suggs....we have drafted barnes and suggs is demanding too much money in our salary cap situation....they will try to resign ray but i don't see suggs playing for us in 09

And on the holdout...

he has no choice but to take the contract unless he just wants to sit on the sideline and not get paid....i think he is just taking advantage of the situation by skipping training camp and then show up once the games start

a trade is a possibility and i know he has intrest in going back to Arizona so who knows?

Its almost like that Chad Johnson thing where do you really want a player on your team if he doesn't want to be on the team....the only cure double-digit sacks

I think Suggs' holdout makes more and more sense as i see more and more people going down with injuries.

God wants us to trade him for Jason Peters, who is holding out.

Suggs has got to prove his worth this year, thats all that can be said. If he gets injured before the season starts, well there you go, we let him go and no one else wants to pay him the money he is looking for. Plus all the extra reps for the rookies is seeming to to be helping them out alot.

Ok if that's true than somebody needs to help suggs with his drug problem cuz he is on some serious crack. Suggs with more money than Reed? plz. The highest paid defender in the league? This guy is trippin'. His ego is way to big for his already enormous head.

Maybe it's just a negotiation ploy to get as much money as possible. Ask for 100 mill when you're really trying to get 50 mill and you both settle on 70 mill. Again I'm not gonna be quick to pass judgment and throw him on the chopping block. That's not fair especially since none of us knows what actually is going on behind the scenes. But if he is really serious about the highest paid defender bs then it's time to ship him out...and not just for a wr. Lets get the facts b4 we throw him under the bus.

This whole situation is out of hand... Granted he really doesn't NEED to be here because it is the same defense, but for a "veteran" on a team with a new Head Coach, he should WANT to be here. The players who get paid the big bucks earn it based on performance on the field and leadership off it, and Suggs, as of late, has shown that he lacks in both areas...
