Suggs, Ravens Can't Agree

135 posts in this topic

T-Sizzle and the Ravens could not agree to a long-term deal prior to today's deadline for Franchised players, meaning we will have to wait until next off-season to try and re-negotiate yet again, or slap the Franchise Tag on him again (it worked with C-Mac)... what do you guys think about this?

Hey dude... Suggs was already signed as a hybrid DE/LB. It also says something about not being able to practice in March. Its kinda old news

Suggs was franchised using the hybrid title--he has signed nothing yet.

The 2003 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year has yet to sign his franchise tender and isn't allowed to practice until he does

That's the main thing in the nfl that angers me, many players hold more priority over ''getting paid what they think they deserve'', I'd be happy with the contract he was offered. That's the only reason I respect Payton Manning, he prefers to get paid less money to have more salary cap affordability to sign better quality players. Oh, don't u miss the good ol' days?

Hey dude, this news broke yesterday, and NO Suggs has not signed anything yet, even the Franchise Tender... check your facts.

Peyton Manning is one of the highest paid players in the league. He's restructured his contract a time or two but he's not losing any money over it. Tom Brady is a better example. Derek Andersons new contract pays him more per year then Tom Brady's deal does. Randy Moss makes more per year with his new deal then Tom Brady does.

Yeah, Brady will get PAID in his next deal... I would love to be his agent

i'm getting annoyed at Suggs. i hope he at least agrees to the compromise franchise tag and shows up to camp on time. otherwise, i might be tempted to trade him. he's getting too expensive for my tastes...

Yeah I might consider that if he came onto our team under the same circumstances that Adalius Thomas did.

You know, like if he were a sixth round draft pick who just excelled in our system and wasn't paid that much then sure, whatever, we'll replace him if he wants to go.

But he was first round pick. We invested a lot in him, and it would feel like such a waist if we were to lose him.

I agree, but unfortunately he probably wants Dwight Freeney money, which we DO NOT have, so unless he is willing to take less we will have to Franchise him again next year...

i wouldnt hit the worry button just yet, simply because how the Team and all involved, have continually said how much they want T-Sizzzle Back in a Raven Uniform. the Fact that he is a non-stop competitor, a hard core Athlete whom has a never ending motor, the fact that he uses everything to the best of his ability, and uses whatever it may be... to his own advatange, is something that the Ravens hold very high in his overall value.

The Fact that Terrell Suggs aka and affectionately known as "T-Sizzle" by Teammates, Coaches and Fans, has that incredible ability to take any play, and turn it in our favor, by utilizing his talent, and analyzing the Opposition, Suggs is like another Coach out there on the field, alongside fellow teammates Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Bart Scott and a bunch other, this defense has built a reputation of being one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL today.

The Noone can ever truly deny the fact that if Suggs was not here, and was not a Raven out there on the football field, this defense would be the same. He Just seems to ad or bring this swagger, this overall feeling, this extra adavantage over the opposition, that has them above many, if not ALL, others in the NFL today. Suggs Brings a certain feel to this Great team that we call the Ravens and as a result, causes any and all opposing teams to carefully re-think their strategy, and re-think the way they go about doing things, which we all know in Game time/game day situations....can prove to either Make or break a play or Game in the End.

in a matter of speaking, Suggs is the type of player in which every opposing offense has to always keep a tab on. because he's the type of player whom may not be there one second, then is right on top the Quarterback for a sack or loss of yards, or fumble. thats just how he plays the game and thats one of the big reasons as to why the Ravens are so ceen on Keeping him a Raven for a long long time. Opposing Lineman in the battles upfront and in the trenches, really have to take into account on whether to single, double, or even Triple BLock Suggs....a single player, because he's such a Force on the field, and virtually all decisions regarding blocking Suggs in Single, Double , Triple Blocking, ultimately means that there are at LEAST 2 other Raven Players that are freed up and have a shot at the Qaurterback or Ball carrier to make a huge play.

and with all this said, this is why the Ravens are so so eager, and so so Anxious to get him signed to a long term defense.

My bad. I guess when they were talkin about the DE/LB Hybrid I thought they had already made a deal. Why cant Suggs be happy with what he got. They upped it a couple hundred K.

i totally agree with you. i love Suggs and what he has done for this team. we will have to worry about the long term contract next year. i just want him to agree to the franchise tag before training camp starts. if he misses training camp because of this issue, i'll have less respect for him.

well there are reports that he is seeking some advice on what to do from here and about the Franchise tag and such, from fellow teammates, and Big Name Players such as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. I would expect Something to happen much sooner than later. Ray's advice to a fellow teammate would probably be something like "dont go too too long with this whole deal, simply because, in order to Become and Be Champions, we need to be able to Have every possible opportunity to get it done, get the reps in, get in the weight room, and really really be serious about this. Champions are not measured by individualistic stats or goals, they are measured more on a TEAM oriented level, with the Whole Team involved" which means that with everyone in camp practicing and training hard as a team....the further you will or could go as a complete Team. If One or some part of the equation is missing, you cant offically move forward and gel together and used to the new team system and really really get that much more comfortable with whats going on.

its just basic logical thinking, If one part of the equation is missing or gone, you cant correct or finish the problem could you? sure you could improvise and use substitue players in the mean time, but until you get ALL key starting players in camp and in the swing of things, you cant offically get things going in real time and offically.

I think Brady signed a 10 year contract in like 2002 or 2003. He's still under contract for a while and even then he'll be well over 30 and the Pats would be silly to give him a cap strapping contract. Unless, he gets a pay raise now or next season, his chance for a BIG payday has already passed.

I wouldnt stress about this to much. Suggs is a high character guy. Besides if he doesnt sign the tender, he'll still be on our roster under the same franchise tag. I dont think it will come to that though. I think the problem now is Suggs wants to be paid as a top 5 player but his production last season wasnt exactly top 5. If he has another big year next year, he and Ozzie will come to terms about something.

The new distinction as a hybrid linebacker is a good move cuz thats the exact position he plays now he's complaining about money when at first he was blaming it all on the position he was tittled as. True colors shown out

No, it was a 6 yr/ $60M in 2005 so he has 2-3 seasons remaining on that deal. A HUGE bargain...

Of course he was going to look good playing with our system, with our secondary, next to Ray Lewis and Adalius Thomas. But thats all he is, a product of the system. Let him show he can do it without help, like Mario Williams did, like Jared Allen, then we pay him.

I'm tired of this pre-season **** with holdouts and money-grubbing. Suggs earns his dough but if he holds out and hurts our team, I'm thinking someone needs to kick him in the nutz.

I dont see Suggs holding out, franchise tag or not this is his year to make his case on the free agent market. Worse case scenario I'd like to see Antwan Barnes to step up if Suggs holds out, maybe even take a look at Edgar Jones.

ESPNs John Clayton reports that Terrell Suggs is likely to hold out all of training camp and potentially into the season. They were close to a 5 year deal but didnt get it finished in time. This is a pretty big blow to the team, Suggs is a big time player and we need him ready.

He already knows the defense since he has played for Rex before. Dont think it will hurt us or him if he doesnt show. If anything it will help the team because that means some of the backups will be getting alot more reps. I hope they get him under contract soon, but i doubt it will affect him come gameday if he misses training camp.

Thats true. It shouldnt affect him that much. Although its still frustrating that he didnt just sign what they were going to give him in the first place.

If he holds out into the season, he wouldnt show up until week 10. Thats a pretty big blow. I hope he comes to his senses. He'll get his money, eventually. And its his fault that he has to wait for it.

Anyone have a link to this?

And I don't get what him holding out would accomplish. They can't sign him to a new deal until after the season (not saying this is fake, just saying it's silly of Suggs).
