Romo Ravens

2010 Ravens Awards

16 posts in this topic

Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun gave out awards to Ravens players, such as "MVP", Offensive Player Of The Year" and "Defensive Player Of The Year".

Take a look for yourself, and see if you agree or disagree with what he had to say.

Also, feel free to give out your own awards.

I think it should have been a tie for MVP between Ray Lewis and Haloti. He was dead on with giving the "OPOY" to Heap. He was clutch in so many situations, and I like this fact: "But no one was more consistent over the entire season than Heap, who led the Ravens with a 15-yard-per-catch average and scored at critical times. All five of his touchdowns either gave the Ravens the lead or cut the deficit to one score."

I agree with all surprisingly, except 18 and 19. Some good stuff in there, and some good and some bad reminders of a great season that could have been greater. I didn't think 19 was that strange, and 18 wasn't that crazy. But Chowder's Anne Frank accusation was hilarious.

I got a kick out of that too. Crowder is such a bum, not to mention he's pretty stupid. But I thought that the Haloti play was pretty strange. Like it mentions in the blurb, he also injured his knee as well. But you can thank Cam for that play.

Cool link, I agree that Reed was our definite DPOY. I would agree with every one of those except maybe Todd Heap being our Offensive Player of the Year, I might of gave it to Joe or Rice.

I'm just saying it is not uncommon to have a defensive guy on offense in general. Granted they're usually only used for blocking, they do more sometimes. Didn't we used to have a big guy that would come in and run some routes on the goal line? Don't really remember if he was offensive or defensive, my brain is failing me right now. And didn't the Pats have a LB they would throw to? Again, my brain is failing me somewhat lol.
But yeah its a little strange, but to me it is not eye popping.

I don't remember the Ravens having "big guy" who'd run routes near the goal-line. J.O. caught a TD pass against the Rams in '03 but I don't remember anyone else doing it. You might be referring to Daniel Wilcox but he was a TE.

The former Patriot you're thinking about is Mike Vrabel.

It's not the fact that Haloti was in on an offensive play. It's the fact that he came in on fourth down, in garbage time, and the world knew that he was either being used as a blocker or he was going to run a route. Add that plus the fact that he got injured, pretty much sums up Cam's lack of creativity and intelligence.

POST SEASON MVP: Terrell Suggs
POST SEASON FAILURE: All of our receivers not named Todd Heap

OFF SEASON MVP: (tie) Greg Mattison for taking new Job, Gaither coming back to LT?
OFF SEASON FAILURE: Coaching staff for ticking off Flacco and giving Cam more control

I agree with all of Hensley's awards. Not to take away from Heap, but we really didn't have an offensive player of the year. Nah I'm kidding. I think he did deserve it. Especially after that long reception TD against the Buccs. I'd say Josh Wilson was our best acquisition. At least we used him.

Its sort of true. The problem was nobody played consistently. Every player had their ups and downs on offense all season. It was sort of frustrating to watch. Would love to have the WR were he gets 6 catches for 90 yards consistently.

And I know I'll get some criticism, but I've been voicing it a lot. #12 on that list is the most true of them all. Hensley said what I've heard the entire year: Stallworth is the fastest receiver on the team. Yet we never really had a chance to find out. 5 carries and 2 receptions.

Yes Vrabel is the guy. It definitely wasn't Wilcox, I remember him. It must have been JO that one time and I made myself think it happened more lol.

I second this. For once I'd like to see a Ravens WR manage 100 catches in a single season. Do you think Boldin still has what it takes?

I don't think anyone could have expected that play to cause Ngata to be injured... And usually guys near/behind the line are going to block or run a route if they are not a halfback. I don't know what exactly you're getting at there. But yeah 4th down to me maybe makes it a little stranger. But I guess just because i knew the guy calling plays, it really didn't surprise me enough to consider it very strange. I am not sure exactly why people are trying to tell me it is so strange, it is an opinion. Some people obviously think it is less strange than others do.
Now, if Cam was a kinda guy that never called up out of the norm plays, Haloti was already hurt and would probably hurt himself more, and had Joe throw a jump ball or fade to the corner of the end zone...now THAT easily deserves to be called strangest. And also very stupid.

Ironically enough in 7 years with the Cardinals Anquan Boldin averaged 6 catches a game and just under 80 (79.2) yards a game.
