Ed Reed And Ray Lewis

35 posts in this topic

Both are the best in my opinion.

Reed has less interceptions than the likes of Krause or Lott(the two safeties most consider among the greatest), but he's a better play-maker than either of them were. Ed isn't as good a tackler as he was earlier in his career but as McCluster and Mendenhall can attest, he can still lay the wood.

As for ILBs, Ray is better than Butkus, Singletary, Lambert, Mills and anyone else in my opinion.

Most likely so. It'll be interesting when both of these guys leave. Hopefully we can continue our winning ways when these two are officially gone from football. Such a fearful time.

I'd say so...no one can quite rival ray lewis any more with his highly productive career.

Ed Reed and Ronnie Lott are the top 2 safeties ever IMO.

So it's close enough.

Whenever you throw up "of all time," there will always, always be a doubt.

Let me clarify --- I speak for myself.

We could have also had the best LT to play the game as well

Freeny was his Kryponite though!

Freeney beat him badly in '04 but I think J.O. held up pretty well in their other meetings, especially considering the bum toe he dealt with towards the end of his career.

I think they will go down as the greatest in maybe a decade or so, with Ray aside, since we know, but isn't Ed the only player to score on an INT, a blocked punt, and a punt return or something like that?
I'll have to look it up. But he holds some crazy record like that.
I miss those days when Ed used to block punts.
Not that we could find a player like him in anytime soon, but we nee him and his style around for a long time, not to mention Ray.
Those kinds of players only come around every so often, and you can only be happy if you get a chance to get them, at least one of them.

And when they retire, and if they want to get back in the game to coach, fire those in the way and throw or dump money on them, no question.
Because if you don't, and they decide to coach, you'll get beat down by them, no question.

Ed holds the record for being the only player in NFL history to return a:

Punt return
Blocked Punt
Interception
Fumble recovery

for touchdowns. I think they're all there.

I believe that Ray is undoubtedly the best MLB there ever has been. I think it will take a year or two more to say the same for Ed, but he is already right up there in the top 10 at least.

I would say Ray Lewis is the best MLB ever. As for best LB ever, I'd say he's a very close second to Lawrence Taylor.

Ed Reed played both SS and FS so I'll just stick with "Safety". I think he is one of the best. His career isn't over and he could hit the 60+ int mark (I think he has 51?) and join a very elite company. I'd put him tied with Ronnie Lott and Rod Woodson for now until his career is finally over.

I think the best part about is that you can multiple players who were the greatest ever at their position. To think we witnessed two of the best on the same team together is quite a remarkable feat.

Ed Reed in my mind is the best safety to ever play the game. Although i like Ronnie Lott, there is not another player in history, minus Deion Sanders, that can turn a defense into offense, like Ed Reed.

Lawrence Taylor = Jordan.

That would make Ray = Kobe.

Jordan and Kobe played the same position; that's obviously not the case with LT and Ray.

IMO he is the BEST MLB ever. I say this because of not just his stats, but what he brought to a team and a city in 15 years, and counting.

ED he is right there/close.....maybe another year or two.

In my oppinion Ray is the best MLB ever, Woodson is the one player I would put above Reed though
Woodson was an All Pro CB though for the what first 10 years of his career? If your going to put Woodson ahead of Reed you have to put Lott by the same token. Ray is without a doubt in my mind the best MLB ever.

I think the key point here is "on the same team". I do not know of a better mlb/fs combo. Individually, "the best of all time" will always be matter of personal opinion. Talking stats, it is hard to compare because of changes in rules, length of season, number of teams, etc. in the game over time.
Of course I will always believe both are the best in their respective positions because, well......I'm an unashamed homer.

Ray, the unquestionable best at his position, no doubt there really. Ed Reed, well, there are SO many answers for that... Ronnie Lott, Krause etc. I don't quite get why people consider Troy P. better, but I, believe it or not, consider Brian Dawkins a close second from Ed Reed - Speaking of when he had his weapon x factor a few years back.

Best linebackers period there where no other linebackers on Lawrence Taylor and Ray's level. Hard hitting fast and may have revolutionized their respected positions.

ray lewis wishe's he was the best!!! go back to dick butkus and you are talking the best.
Ray Lewis doesn't need to 'wish'. He just uses the power of Old Spice. That's the difference between Ray and everybody else (including Butkus).

Well the two are still playing, so they still have to end their careers before we can truly say, but I think Ray Lewis is the best Linebacker of all time. I say the best Linebacker, because Harrison just has no class and he doesn't lead the team like Ray does. Ray demonstrates passion and a love for the game. Not to mention intelligence. To Ray it's about the game. And after this season, Harrison just showed he didn't care about hurting people. He was more upset about being fined than he was for the poor person he just gave a concussion to. And Ray always knows where people are going to be and he showed this year that he can still hit hard at the age of 35 when he cracked Dustin Keller. And I know I sound like a typical Ravens fan, but Reed deserved the Defensive Player of the Year award the year they gave it to Harrison. Reed was robbed plain and simple. It was just another example of the NFL showing that the Steelers are their golden team. Reed had more pick sixes and anyone in the NFL that year. And I think it's funny that before this season started, some article ranked Polamalu the #1 Safety in the NFL and they were expecting Reed to be back shortly after week 1. He came back after missing 6 games and still led the NFL in interceptions.
